Jakub Mensik vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina preview

12th seed Mensik of Czechia will take on Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain in the round of 32 of the BNP Paribas Open on Sunday, March 8.
The 20-year-old Mensik won his first ATP Masters 1000 title in Miami last year. However, he has failed to win any title in recent months despite going deep into many tournaments. He lost to Novak Djokovic in the fourth round of the Australian Open and to Arthur Fils in the semifinal of the Qatar Open. Mensik won his first match in Indian Wells in straight sets against Marcos Giron.
Davidovich Fokina, meanwhile, lost in the quarterfinals of the Dallas Open in February. Before that, he had managed to reach the third round of the Australian Open. The Spaniard beat Zachary Svajda in straight sets in the round of 64 in Indian Wells.
Jakub Mensik vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina head-to-head
Mensik and Davidovich Fokina have clashed five times so far, with the latter winning four of those matches. The Spaniard thus leads their head-to-head 4-1 at the moment.

Jakub Mensik vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina prediction
Fokina is the more experienced of the two players, but many would argue that Mensik is the more talented. Fokina hits the ball really hard off both wings, while Mensik has a backhand that is more powerful than his forehand.
Had Mensik had a more powerful forehand, it would have been really difficult for any player to beat him. Hence, a likely strategy for Davidovich Fokina will be to direct more traffic towards Mensik’s forehand.
However, the Czech has a stronger serve than his Spanish opponent and will try to win many easy points with it. Mensik’s superior serve will give him a slight advantage going into the match. It should be a close match, but Mensik holds the edge.
