The ‘Last 200-K pitcher by MLB team’ quiz

The 2026 World Baseball Classic is well underway, and one of the premier matchups of pool play is set for Monday night between Team USA and Team Mexico. With the United States looking to avenge their 2023 pool play loss to their southern neighbors, manager Mark DeRosa is rolling with Paul Skenes as the starting pitcher for the Stars and Stripes.

Skenes is coming off of a Cy Young in his first full Major League season, and in Team USA’s exhibition against the San Francisco Giants before the WBC he struck out four batters while allowing one run in three innings.

Both the U.S. and Mexico are undefeated so far in the tournament with both beating up on Brazil and Great Britain and this will be the toughest test so far for each squad.

Which brings us to today’s quiz. Skenes posted a ridiculous 1.97 ERA last year with the Pittsburgh Pirates while striking out 216 batters through 187 2/3 innings. With that being said, can you name the most recent pitcher to strike out 200 batters in one season for each MLB franchise?

    Good luck!
