4 WWE Superstars who have betrayed their mentors

WWE often uses real-life connections between superstars in storylines. Many times, veterans take younger stars under their wing and groom them to reach the upper echelon of the company.

However, when mentees become confident in their abilities, they decide to turn on their mentors. In this listicle, we will look at four WWE Superstars who have betrayed their mentors.

#4. JD McDonagh turned on Finn Balor on WWE RAW

The most recent entry on this list happened on this week’s RAW. Finn Balor and Dominik Mysterio engaged in a heated argument that turned physical. JD McDonagh tried to calm Balor down, but ended up turning on him and siding with The Judgment Day.

McDonagh trained under The Prince in the early stages of his career. The Irish duo then joined forces on-screen as tag team partners and found notable success. However, The Irish Ace decided to betray his former mentor in favor of The Judgment Day.

#3. Batista turned on Triple H

Triple H and Ric Flair took Randy Orton and Batista under their wing to form Evolution in 2003. The group had a dominant run before things started falling apart. First, Orton was kicked out of the group after he became the World Heavyweight Champion.

Batista then won the 2005 Royal Rumble Match, and despite The Game’s best attempts to convince him to choose JBL as his opponent, The Animal turned on his mentor and eventually dethroned him for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 21.

#2. Dominik Mysterio betrayed Rey Mysterio

Dominik Mysterio had the privilege to learn under one of the greatest luchadors of all time, Rey Mysterio, who also happens to be his father. However, the young star decided to betray The Master of 619 and choose to carve his own path as a villain.

At Clash at the Castle 2022, Dominik brutally attacked Rey and joined The Judgment Day, sending shockwaves throughout the wrestling world.

#1. Cody Rhodes turned on Hardcore Holly

In the early stages of Cody Rhodes‘ first run in WWE, he formed a tag team with Hardcore Holly. The duo even won the World Tag Team Championship together.

However, Rhodes ended the alliance by betraying Holly and joining forces with Ted DiBiase Jr. The American Nightmare chose to side with his fellow multi-generational star instead of his mentor.
