However, not everyone thinks it’s a smart call. Fans on X dropped their reactions to the news.

“Decent value,” a fan wrote.
“Did the Pats just find their long-term WR1 for Drake Maye?” another fan wrote.
“Four years is a gamble, but Maye needs someone to trust,” one fan said.
“Am I the only one who thinks he’s extremely overrated?” a fan commented.
“Lol jesus. Overpaiiiid but props to him for getting that bag!” another fan said.
Doubs spent four seasons in Green Bay after he was drafted at No. 132 in 2022. He finished the 2025 season with career-best numbers of 55 catches for 724 yards and six touchdowns across 16 games.
How Romeo Doubs fits into Drake Maye’s Patriots offense

Romeo Doubs‘ $20 million average annual value puts him tied for 24th among wide receivers, alongside Jacksonville’s Jakobi Meyers, according to OverTheCap.com. He caught 202 passes for 2,424 yards and 21 touchdowns in 59 games with the Packers.
New England’s receiver room was already light heading into free agency, and Stefon Diggs’ release made it lighter. Doubs walks into the vacancy as the most experienced option and would likely line up outside. He was targeted 85 times last season.
Doubs’ addition gives Drake Maye a wideout with four seasons of starting experience and a track record of holding up under a high target load. Wide receiver was flagged as New England’s most pressing offseason need before the Diggs cut.
