How long Crysencio Summerville could be out injured in “massive blow” for West Ham

West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville is set for scans today to determine the extent of his injury, but some sources are already sharing a potential timeframe.

The Hammers’ remarkable turnaround under Nuno Espirito Santo has been one of the stories of this Premier League season’s second half.

Written off by almost everyone at the turn of the year, they have now dragged themselves back from what looked like certain relegation through sheer grit, discipline, a renewed team spirit and the brilliance of one man in particular.

Summerville has been nothing short of extraordinary under Nuno.

The Dutch winger arrived from Leeds in 2024 to little fanfare, took time to find his feet, and has since evolved into one of the most dangerous wide players in the division this season.

He has scored five Premier League goals across 25/26, but the numbers alone do not tell the whole story.

The Dutchman has been on fire lately.

It is the timing, the consistency and the weight of the goals that have made him indispensable.

Summerville scored in five consecutive games through January and into February, and scored the only goal in West Ham’s vital 1-0 win at Fulham just last weekend.

The east Londoners have also simply not won a single league match this season in his absence, with Summerville poised to be at the centre of a bidding war this summer as a result of his superb form.

Monday night at the London Stadium had it all. A pulsating 2-2 draw with Brentford, 120 minutes of FA Cup drama, five perfect penalties and a quarter-final date with Leeds United now booked.

It was the kind of night that gives a relegation-threatened club exactly the momentum and belief it needs, but the celebrations were tempered almost immediately by what happened towards the end of extra time.

Summerville, introduced at half-time by Nuno having initially been kept on the bench, appeared to pick up a calf problem late on.

He hobbled through the remainder of the contest — with all substitutions already made, he had no option but to carry on — and was conspicuously absent when his teammates lined up to take the decisive spot-kicks.

Reporters pitchside noted medical staff tending to his calf as he waited to return to the field. He did keep going, and showed glimpses of his quality even while clearly uncomfortable, but the concern was written all over the faces of his teammates at full-time.

Nuno was measured in his post-match assessment, saying only that his player felt a knock and that the club would assess him.

However, behind the scenes, the picture is considerably more worrying.

West Ham insider ExWHUemployee reported serious concern within the club this morning, and talkSPORT’s Alex Crook has since confirmed that Summerville is due for a scan today.

Crysencio Summerville facing ‘weeks’ out injured for West Ham

According to the reporter today, Summerville is apparently facing weeks on the sidelines at West Ham, in what would be a major blow for Nuno’s side.

“I’m told, having been forced off through injury, he is to have a scan on Tuesday,” Crook said.

“My sources at West Ham are telling me that they are concerned that this is a problem that could potentially rule him out for a number of weeks,” Crook said on air.

“Obviously, that would be a massive blow to their hopes of staying in the Premier League.”

With Man City and Aston Villa both to come before the international break, the timing could not be worse.

A club that has rebuilt everything now holds its breath and awaits the final scan results, with a lengthy Summerville absence set to spell real danger for the Irons.

West Ham will be praying for good news.
