When is Fortnite Save The World going free-to-play? Everything you need to know

Fortnite Save The World is going free-to-play on April 16, 2026, and pre-registration has gone live. It will be available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Cloud, and Nintendo Switch 2. To be clear, you don’t need to pre-register to play the game, but if you do, you will get some cool rewards, including a Hero, that’s if the community goal is met.

If you currently own the game (Founders or Standard edition), life goes on as normal. However, that doesn’t mean that Epic Games is leaving you high and dry. Those who have stood their ground against the Storm for all these years will be rewarded for their bravery.

That being said, here’s everything you need to know about the pre-registration process, rewards, and other important details about Fortnite Save The World.

To pre-register for Fortnite Save The World, you need to head to this link and sign up using your Epic Games ID: https://save-the-world.fortnite.com/en-US/. Once done, your pre-registration will be logged, and now all you have to do is wait till April 16, 2026.

Coming to rewards, it’s based on the community goal. There are three stages, and completion of the first two will grant pre-registrants a cool cosmetic. The final stage will reward new players with a Hero (current players will also get it if they pre-register). That said, here’s a list of rewards based on each milestone completed:

    • 300,000 players pre-registered: Emote
    • 700,000 players pre-registered: Banner
    • 1,000,000 players pre-registered: Snowstrike Hero (usable only in Fortnite Save The World)

At the time of writing, the current progress is 20%, meaning 200,000 players have pre-registered. However, because the website takes time to update, the actual number is likely much higher. Having said that, if you’ve been playing since the very beginning or sometime in between, you will also get a few rewards. Here’s the list:

    • “1x Hero Supercharger – Promote a Hero beyond Level 50.
    • 1x Weapon Supercharger – Promote a weapon beyond Level 50.
    • 1x Trap Supercharger – Promote a Trap beyond Level 50.
    • 5x Survivor Supercharger – Promote Survivors beyond Level 50.
    • 1x Hero Recruitment Voucher – Recruit a Hero of your choice.
    • 1x Weapon Research Voucher – Unlock a weapon of your choice.
    • 10000 Gold – Spend in the Event Store (to be renamed “the Exchange”) for valuable items.”

Lastly, if you own the Founders edition, you’ll be delighted to know that you will still be able to earn V-Bucks by completing Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, Storm Shield Defense Missions, and existing Challenges. If nothing else, you wouldn’t have to worry about the lack of V-Bucks or boycott Crew.

With that being said, welcome to Fortnite Save The World. While it’s not Battle Royale, and after a while, things will become “rinse and repeat” to an extent, you can earn a lot of XP from this mode. If nothing else, you will be able to level-up quicker and complete your Battle Pass sooner.
