How to get Plesioth and its weaknesses in Monster Hunter Stories 3

Plesioth is a large Piscine Wyvern in Monster Hunter Stories 3 that traded its ability to fly for a life built entirely around water. Its wings have shifted into fins over time, and it now navigates by sound rather than sight. It is a creature that clearly prefers water over land, though it can operate in both environments when required.

As a Monstie, it brings Swim alongside solid offensive stats, and its subspecies, the Green Plesioth, offers a faster and more aggressive take on the same foundation. Both are available in Azuria, and knowing where to look and what each one brings to a fight makes the whole process a lot more straightforward in Monster Hunter Stories 3.

Plesioth is one of the best early game Monsties, and its eggs are found by raiding monster dens. The egg location is:

    • Mirror Lake, Azuria
    • Sunpetal Plains, Azuria

The egg has orange patches and can be brought back and hatched in the stable. Plesioth is a 4-star rank Water type Speed Monstie with Power as its transformation attack type. It belongs to the Piscine Wyvern genus and comes with Swim, Jump, Melee Attack, Roar, and Breath as its Riding Actions.

Forcing a retreat to farm Plesioth eggs

For a more targeted approach, forcing Plesioth to retreat during battle sends it back to its den and fills every egg slot there with Plesioth eggs specifically. This removes the randomness from den raiding entirely.

The two approaches that trigger a retreat are:

    • Earning a high battle rank at the end of the fight raises the chance that Plesioth flees rather than continuing to battle.
    • Throwing a Paintball at Plesioth mid-fight nudges it toward retreating without requiring a full defeat.

Plesioth skills, weaknesses, resistances, and stats in Monster Hunter Stories 3

    Plesioth skills as a Monstie

Plesioth has three innate skills that unlock as it levels up, and they are:

    • Plesioth Splash is its Kinship Skill, available from level 1
    • Drowsy Fang is an active skill that unlocks at level 20
    • Aqua Jet is an active skill that unlocks at level 40

Its skill pool also includes two potential additional moves, and they are:

    • Antibleed (S) is a passive skill
    • Plesioth Dash is an active skill

    Plesioth elemental weaknesses and resistances

Plesioth is weak to both Thunder and Fire, with Thunder landing at double effectiveness, making it the stronger option of the two. Water, as expected for a water-based creature, is highly resisted and best avoided. Ice also lands poorly. Null element and Dragon sit at neutral with no particular advantage or penalty.

    Status effectiveness against Plesioth

Plesioth has a mixed status profile worth knowing before going in:

    • Double effective: Paralysis and Blind both land with high impact, making them top status priorities in a fight.
    • Effective: Poison, Burn, Bleeding, Stun, Typeseal, Skillseal, Cyclone-Struck, and 1-Hit KO all register with standard effectiveness.
    • Resisted: Sleep and Blastblight do not connect, so those are better saved for other encounters.

    Targetable parts and weapon effectiveness

Plesioth has four targetable parts. The three damage types are Slash (Greatsword and Katana), Pierce (Bow), and Blunt (Hammer). Here is how each part responds:

    • Main Body: All three types connect effectively, making this the most flexible target.
    • Head: Only Blunt lands on the head. Slash and Pierce do not register.
    • Back: Pierce from the bow is the right call here. Slash and Blunt both miss.
    • Tail: Slash weapons like the Greatsword and Katana are the only effective option on the tail. Pierce and Blunt do not connect.

    Plesioth stat profile

Plesioth sits at strong numbers across the board. HP and Attack are both rated 6, while Speed and Defense each sit at 7. That makes it one of the faster and more durable options available at the 4-star rank, and the stat spread reflects a creature built for sustained pressure rather than burst damage.

How to get Green Plesioth in Monster Hunter Stories 3

Green Plesioth is the subspecies variant, named for its jade-green colouring. It is more aggressive than the standard version and noticeably more mobile, both in water and on land.

It sits at a 5-star rank and shifts the transformation attack type from Power to Technical, which is a meaningful difference for team composition. It is still a Water Speed type and keeps the same Riding Actions as Plesioth.

Where to find Green Plesioth eggs

Green Plesioth eggs can be found at two locations:

    • Mirror Lake, Azuria
    • Bountiful Dunes, Tarkuan

The same retreat method applies here. Force a Green Plesioth to flee during battle using a high battle rank or a Paintball, and the den it returns to will be stocked entirely with Green Plesioth eggs.

Green Plesioth skills as a Monstie

Green Plesioth has a different set of innate skills from the standard variant, and they are:

    • Plesioth Dash is an active single-target skill available from level 1.
    • Hyperspace Tackle is an active skill that hits all enemies and unlocks at level 30.
    • Hydro Blast is an active skill that unlocks at level 50.

Its skill pool contains one potential passive move:

    • Water Atk Boost (S) is a passive skill that can appear in the pool.

Green Plesioth targetable parts and weapon effectiveness

Green Plesioth shares the same four targetable parts but has a different weapon effectiveness profile from the standard Plesioth, notably on the Back:

    • Main Body: All three types land effectively, the same as the standard version.
    • Head: Only Blunt connects. Slash and Pierce do not register.
    • Tail: Slash is the only effective type here. Pierce and Blunt miss.
    • Back: Unlike standard Plesioth, where Pierce works on the Back, Green Plesioth takes Slash instead. Pierce and Blunt do not land.
