The Players Championship delays entry for fans after shooting incident nearby claims lives of 2

The Players Championship is currently underway at TPC Sawgrass, and the event is now approaching its weekend rounds. With Ludvig Aberg leading the tournament with a total score of 12 under par, Round 3 promises to be exciting for the fans. While the game has been great so far, there may be a delay for the fans who are going to watch Round 3 live owing to unfortunate circumstances.

It has been reported that on Friday, March 13, around 10:30 PM, some bullet shots were fired at the Walgreens on Palm Valley Road in Ponte Vedra, and later, it was discovered that two people were shot in a parking lot.

The news spread like fire, and after some investigation, St. Johns County Sheriff Rob Hardwick confirmed that a 32-year-old man named Christian Barrios is the current suspect in the case. He is already a convicted criminal and is on probation. Police dogs tracked him from the parking lot, and the suspect went towards the PGA Tour property at TPC Sawgrass.

Speculations are that from there, Christian Barrios then stole a BMW to flee the crime scene. According to News4Jax, Sheriff Hardwick has spoken about the suspect and said:

“He is out of prison again on probation, committing another violent felony. Here we are dumping all these resources, and families are gonna mourn two people that were shot and killed in a parking lot of Walgreens over domestic violence situation.”

Following this incident, the Players Championship has delayed fans’ entry to the TPC Sawgrass for Round 3 of the tournament. Flushing It Golf reported on the situation with an X post that revealed,

“The Players Championship has delayed entry for thousands of fans after 2 people were killed nearby in a double shooting last night. The local sheriff tracked the suspect with canine units onto TPC Sawgrass, where is he believed to have made contact with PGA Tour staff before stealing a vehicle and leaving the area.”
