Jamie Carragher was very critical of an “absolutely shocking” Tottenham Hotspur player in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.
Richarlison rescues late point at Anfield
Against the odds, Igor Tudor finally managed to stop the rot this afternoon, bringing his four-game losing run since being appointed interim manager to an end, with Richarlison’s late equaliser securing a point for his side at Anfield.
Roy Keane believes the score was fair on the balance of play, and the draw could be priceless by the end of the season, with Tottenham in a relegation battle, remaining one point above the Premier League zone.
That said, there is still plenty of work to do, with Spurs falling way short of expectations this season, and goalkeeper has been a problem position, with Antonin Kinsky and Guglielmo Vicario being used interchangeably over the past week.
With Kinsky being replaced after just 17 minutes in mid week, following a disastrous start to the Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid, Vicario was given the nod between the sticks against Arne Slot’s side, but he certainly didn’t impress Carragher.
After failing to stop Dominik Szoboszlai’s first-half free-kick, the Italian was criticised by the Sky Sports pundit, who said: “It’s not far off the middle of the goal, you’ve got to save that. Wow, that’s awful, absolutely shocking from the goalkeeper.
The former Liverpool man also added: “The reason the other fella’ [Kinsky] played in midweek was because he [Vicario] is not good enough. That’s what it was and then he ends up coming on in the game and it’s been well documented what happened.
“But Tottenham have got huge problems in goal.”
Vicario needs to improve heading into crucial eight games
Tottenham could’ve taken all three points today if their goalkeeper didn’t let Szoboszlai’s free-kick pass through his fingers, and he must improve heading into the final eight games, with Spurs’ Premier League status on the line.
However, the Lilywhites have already decided to replace the 29-year-old in the summer, given that he has a clean sheet percentage of just 23.3% in the Premier League this season, which is lower than the likes of AFC Bournemouth’s Djordje Petrovic and Sunderland’s Robin Roefs.
Solanke will love him: 45-year-old manager now frontrunner for the Spurs job
Igor Tudor is likely to be sacked from his post as Tottenham Hotspur interim manager after Sunday’s trip to Liverpool.
In the aforementioned report, Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser is named as a potential replacement, with the Colmar-born shot-stopper impressing in Ligue 1 this season, keeping ten clean sheets in 26 appearances.
Vicario’s performance at Anfield underlines the need to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, and Risser could be an exciting replacement, but securing Premier League survival needs to be Tottenham’s top priority at the moment.
