CM Punk has just been subtly referenced just moments ago at AEW Revolution. This was an unexpected angle as the company paid homage to one of his greatest matches when he was still All-Elite.
Tonight’s pay-per-view main event featured MJF putting his AEW World Championship on the line against ‘Hangman’ Adam Page in a Texas Death match. The main stipulation was that Hangman would never challenge again for the world title if he ended up losing.
This was a wild contest to say the least, as both men ended up getting busted open and going through various hardcore spots. Everything from tables, glass shards, to barbed wire chairs, and even light tubes was utilized. This match showed how neither one of them was willing to give an inch to the other, even at the expense of their own bodies.
At one point in the bout, Page decided to turn things up a bit and grabbed two dog collars and chains from under the ring. MJF was dazed at that moment, so he attached these to both of them. Once Friedman regained his senses, he realized that this had suddenly turned into a Dog Collar match. He immediately tensed up and had flashbacks of the past as he screamed, “Not again!”

The last AEW Dog Collar match he was in was 4 years ago at Revolution 2022 against CM Punk, with the Straight Edge Superstar coming out on top.
The clip of the moment can be found here.
MJF’s match with CM Punk must have really left a mark on him, as he tried running away as fast as he could. But with the chain connecting him and Hangman, all it took was one yank from Page to bring Friedman back into the ring. This was an interesting angle and a reference to one of the most brutal matches in AEW history.
