Rangers officials eyeing brutal triple raid to sign Elijah Just and two more Motherwell stars

Tuur Rommens stressed that nothing beats the winning feeling after Rangers recovered from recent set-backs to boost title hopes in a 1-0 win at St Mirren.

Rommens delighted with life at Rangers

The 22-year-old Belgian left-back scored his first Gers goal since signing from Westerlo in January with a close-range finish from a cross from fellow countryman Nico Raskin in the 31st minute at the SMiSA Stadium.

The Light Blues could not add to their lead amid swirling wind and occasional rain but with eight William Hill Premiership fixtures remaining the title race bunched up as Rangers moved to within three points of leaders Hearts and one point behind Celtic.

It was the first win in four games in all competitions for Danny Rohl’s side who were knocked out of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup on penalties by Celtic at Ibrox last weekend and Rommens underlined its importance.

“I think we played better last week than we did on Sunday, but we didn’t win,” he said.

“We played an OK game (against St Mirren), not our best game. It was difficult, but we won, so that’s the most important thing.

“I think we have a great group. If you see our performance in the last weeks, I think we deserved more points.

“But it is what it is, and maybe we didn’t play our best game on Sunday, but we won, and that’s the most important thing. I think there are 24 points to play for and we are three behind.

“So, of course, we have the confidence, but we need to take it game by game, and then we’ll see where we end.”

Rommens is enjoying life at Rangers where expectations are much higher than at Westerlo and Genk, his previous clubs in Belgium.

He said: “Yes, it’s no secret that I hadn’t played for a club like Rangers, and I wanted to come here.

The Rams face a fight to keep hold of the January signing…

“I want to play for a club like Rangers, and I want to have this feeling, to have this pressure to win every game, and I think I integrated well into the group.

“I had some good moments on Sunday, I had some difficult moments, but I’m just happy with my first goal and happy with the win.

“I try to help the team offensively also. In the last couple of years I haven’t scored a lot. I have to score more, that’s an aspect of my game that I have to improve and I know this.”

Rangers set to back Rohl with triple Motherwell raid lined up

Rangers are expected to undergo something of a mini overhaul this summer, with reinforcements needed particularly in defence, where Derby County starlet Derry Murkin is now a target.

A report from The Daily Record has revealed the Gers could shop closer to home however, and are eyeing three players from surprise challengers Motherwell.

    Motherwell manager Jens Askou reacts

Jens Berthel Askou’s side have ruffled a few feathers in the Premiership this season and the higher ups at Ibrox have reportedly been very impressed, particularly with Elijah Just.

The New Zealand international winger, who is also wanted by rivals Celtic, has scored seven times and provided six assists in the league this season.

The Hoops have some serious work to do this summer

Just isn’t the only one on the radar however, and Andrew Cavenagh is expected to go into overdrive to hand Rohl significant backing this summer, with Tawanda Maswanhise and Elliot Watt also on the radar.

The trio have been the standout performers at Fir Park this season, so it seems unlikely the Steelmen would sell all three in one summer, but they will certainly be tested with the Record claiming 49ers Enterprises are “ready to push the boat out” to improve Rohl’s squad.
