Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Lane Johnson likes new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion’s offense, a good sign for the team.
On a recent “Fitz & Whit” podcast, the two-time Super Bowl champion said he’s “excited about this new system.” Johnson said Mannion’s offense features elements of the scheme of San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan, who’s known for high-powered attacks.
“I think it will maybe be easier on the edge for [left tackle] Jordan [Mailata] and I,” Johnson added. “… I’ve watched these offenses from afar and was like, ‘Damn, that looks pretty fun.'”
Under former offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, the Eagles had the 24th-ranked offense in the NFL (311.2 yards per game). Three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Jalen Hurts was sacked 32 times last season (ranked 13th in NFL), largely because of an injury-plagued offensive line.
Johnson, a six-time Pro Bowl right tackle, has spent his entire 13-year career with the Eagles. The two-time All-Pro tackle was limited to 10 games in 2025 and missed the Eagles’ wild-card game loss because of a Lisfranc injury.
The Eagles are bringing in new personnel on offense
Johnson is one of many players returning from Eagles’ Super Bowl roster in 2024. Longtime Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert recently signed a one-year deal with the team.
But the offense will have new faces, too, including wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, who spent the past two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2025, he had 587 receiving yards (12 yards per catch) and five touchdown catches. Brown should be a solid slot receiver and good third option for Hurts if A.J. Brown, the subject of trade rumors, or DeVonta Smith aren’t open.
Former Houston Texan Dameon Pierce was added on a one-year contract as another option at running back. Three-time Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley will get the majority of carries, with Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley factoring in as well.
The new additions and Johnson’s buy-in are good signs for the Eagles.
