Alexandra Eala vs Magda Linette preview
Alexandra Eala and Magda Linette, both of whom have had wins over Iga Swiatek at the Miami Open in the last two years, will lock horns in the third round of the WTA 1000 event.
Eala, the 31st seed at this year’s tournament, had her big breakthrough at the tournament 12 months ago. She beat the likes of Swiatek, Jelena Ostapenko and Madison Keys en-route to the semifinals. She has since gone on to break the top-30 and make her first WTA final.
The Filipina has returned to Miami in great form, having accumulated a 12-7 win loss for 2026. She battled past Laura Seigemund in her opener here and will look to build on that result.
Linette, meanwhile, scored her biggest win by ranking when she took out Swiatek, the World No. 3, in her second-round match. She had also beaten Varvara Gracheva in another three-set battle in the first round.
The Pole’s overall win-loss for the season has improved to 10-7. She had made a couple of quarterfinals Down Under before also reaching the second week at Dubai.

Alexandra Eala and Magda Linette are both strong baseline players who like to play in the quick conditions, with the former having a particular liking for the conditions in Miami.
The Filipina’s powerful groundstrokes help her cease control of the baseline. She likes to attack the ball, but will need to be careful against a dogged Linette.
The Pole is one of best movers on Tour and retrieves a lot of balls. She has, however, taken on a more aggressive approach in recent years as evidenced in her win over Iga Swiatek.
Linette will look to exploit the one standout weakness in the Eala game: the serve. The teenager often struggles in that department, winning just 50% points behind the second delivery in her last match.
This encounter has the makings of a baseline slugfest. But if Linette can maintain an aggressive intent on return, she should be able to put her opponent under relentless pressure. Else, Eala will find a way through.
