Danny Rohl has confirmed that “conversations” are already set to take place over Rangers‘ first summer signing, with the 49ers working on the deal.
Rohl pleased with “great” Rangers victory
The Gers aren’t giving up their title ambitions just yet. They were emphatic against Aberdeen, easing to a 4-1 victory, and are now within three points of Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts.
Goals from Tochi Chukwuani, Mikey Moore, Nicolas Raskin and captain James Tavernier rounded off an excellent afternoon, which left Rohl delighted with his side.
The Rangers boss told reporters at full-time: “A great performance, over 90, 95 minutes.
“We spoke about this result and performance today, I think we saw both and that’s what makes me really happy today, to see my team perform like this.
“We want to see goals, I think this is always great. I’m a manager, I also want to see clean sheets. This is the only small thing today after the 2-0 that we bring this team back for a short moment.
Forget Rommens: Rangers star is quickly becoming Tavernier 2.0 at Ibrox
Rangers march on in the Premiership title race following Saturday’s win over Aberdeen.
“But in general, how we played with a lot of intensity, we were very aggressive against the ball, good positioning in possession. In general, a small statement, especially with the goal difference as well, we won the last two cup finals and now we have seven to go.”
With or without the title this season, it’s becoming clearer every week that Rohl is the man for the job at Ibrox. Had the former Sheffield Wednesday boss taken the reins from the start of the season, the Gers may have been on course for silverware at this stage.
The 49ers have certainly backed their man so far and must continue to do so this summer. Recent reports have already claimed that Rangers are interested in the likes of Elijah Just, whilst Rohl has already confirmed “conversations” over an attacking star.
Rohl confirms Mikey Moore talks
Having his say on the summer transfer window, Rohl confirmed “conversations” over a deal for Moore to stay at Rangers past his current loan spell – revealing that the 49ers are already working on a move.
“I think conversations are always there, but we know when Mikey performed like this, you can see Mikey enjoys playing for Rangers. The fans love him, I like him, he’s a key player.
“I think there’s a lot of good things where we could go again together, but we know he’s still not our player, let’s work in the next couple of weeks in all those directions.”
On paper, signing Moore on a permanent basis would be an ambitious move. In reality, however, Tottenham Hotspur’s potential relegation could yet open the door for exactly that.
The North London club sit in a precarious position in the Premier League and face an exodus of talent if they fail to avoid the drop. Whether Moore would prefer a Rangers stay, even if only on loan again, or a return to a Championship club remains to be seen.
The young winger has certainly done enough to earn an extended stay at Ibrox.
