Hailey Baptiste vs Jelena Ostapenko preview

Hailey Baptiste will take on Jelena Ostapenko for a place in the women’s singles quarterfinals of the 2026 Miami Open.
Baptiste, the World No. 45, has emerged as one of the surprise contenders in Miami this year. The Washington-born 24-year-old has so far ousted two seeds from the tournament, including current World No. 8 Elina Svitolina and No. 22 Liudmila Samsonova. Remarkably, Baptiste is yet to drop a set.
Meanwhile, Ostapenko, a former No. 5 and the 2017 French Open champion, received a first-round bye and went on to defeat Dayana Yastremska and then top 10 star Jasmine Paolini. The Latvian’s mental resilience was particularly impressive in her match against Paolini, as she fell a set behind to the Italian but then recovered to secure her progress to the fourth round.

Hailey Baptiste vs Jelena Ostapenko prediction
Despite Ostapenko’s longstanding status as one of the WTA Tour’s consistently top performers and most aggressive hitters, Baptiste should be full of confidence heading into the contest because of the run she’s so far put together in Miami.
The American, an aggressive all-court player, has all the weapons needed to produce an upset, including a powerful forehand, a variety of styles, as well as the ability to win points at the net. She will also have the majority of the Miami crowd cheering for her. However, Ostapenko’s big-match experience could very well make the difference.
The Latvian though, despite the mental strength she showed against Paolini, has a tendency to lose her calm, especially if her high-risk style goes against her.
Pick: Ostapenko to win in three sets.
