Tony Khan could be behind the WWE shareholders’ lawsuit against the company, insinuates veteran

There was renewed interest in the infamous WWE Shareholder lawsuit filed in 2023 when a wrestling veteran suggested that AEW president Tony Khan might be behind it.

For those needing a refresher, the lawsuit alleges that former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon orchestrated a fraudulent sale of his company to Endeavor to retain power rather than prioritize a high-value sale. The ongoing lawsuit revealed interesting details, such as AEW President Tony Khan bidding for the Stamford-based promotion when it was up for sale. The renewed interest in this case was sparked by wrestling veteran Vince Russo, who insinuated that Khan might have been behind it all along.

On the latest episode of the Coach and Bro podcast, Jonathan Coachman discussed reports that Tony Khan had bid $6.9 billion in his attempt to purchase World Wrestling Entertainment and was even willing to raise the offer to $9.3 billion. When Russo was asked for his opinion on this, the veteran said he wasn’t surprised at all and suggested that Khan could actually be behind the ongoing Shareholders’ lawsuit.

“Not at all surprised. If anybody was surprised (about Tony Khan bidding for World Wrestling Entertainment), I would be shocked. Here’s where we gotta go into the rabbit hole. If he was willing to go up to that number (9 billion), could Tony Khan possibly be behind the Shareholder starting this lawsuit? Think about that. Could he be behind this? Which literally could cost TKO and the WWE tens of millions of dollars,” said Russo (19:11 – 19:55)
