The 2025/26 campaign has no doubt been a huge disappointment for everyone at Liverpool Football Club, especially after the levels achieved during the year prior.
Arne Slot led the Reds to Premier League glory during his first season at the helm at Anfield, but the Dutchman has been unable to emulate such a feat during season two.
His side currently sit in fifth place with just seven games remaining, which could see a real fight on their hands to even secure a place in the Champions League next season.
Such a situation is even more unthinkable when the hierarchy handed the manager over £450m worth of funds to help improve the squad after their title glory.
However, despite such heavy spending last summer, Slot may be handed further funds during the upcoming window to further improve the talent in his senior ranks.
Liverpool open talks to land new £40m star
Over the last few days, Liverpool have been touted with a huge array of attacking talent ahead of the summer window, with a real impetus on improving the frontline.
Bayern Munich star Michael Olise has been just one name mentioned with a potential switch to Merseyside, with one report claiming a huge bid is expected during the off-season.
It was claimed that a club-record offer could be made for the Frenchman, but it’s now been confirmed that the Bundesliga side see the attacker as not for sale.
Olise isn’t the only attacker in their sights at present, with Juventus star Francisco Conceicao another player who’s currently being considered by the hierarchy.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, the Reds have already entered talks with the Italian outfit over a potential deal to land the Portuguese forward this window.
The report also states that a deal could be agreed between the two parties during the off-season, but a fee of £40m is likely to be demanded to complete any transfer.
Why Conceicao would be Liverpool’s next Coutinho
Liverpool is a club which has been home to countless impressive attacking talents, with Brazilian attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho one who captured the hearts of the fanbase.
He joined from Inter Milan for just £8m back in the winter of 2013, with very few supporters knowing much about his qualities and the talent he possessed in the final third.
However, he certainly made himself a hit with the supporters on Merseyside, subsequently registering 54 goals and 42 assists in his 201 appearances for the Reds.
His moments of magic at Anfield played a huge part in the club’s return to the top of the Premier League, before leaving for a staggering £142m in January 2018.
Liverpool’s most expensive sales of all time
Some great players have departed Anfield for huge money.
In the present day, despite spending huge money on the likes of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, Slot must wish he could have his own version of Coutinho within his senior ranks.
However, his wishes could come to reality during the summer window, especially if the hierarchy can complete a deal with Juventus for the services of Conceicao.
The Portuguese international may be unknown to many supporters, but he would emulate the Brazilian in arriving at Anfield from a leading team in Italy’s top-division.
Like Coutinho, the 24-year-old can operate in a number ten role, or even off the right-hand side – potentially filling the void that will be vacated by Mohamed Salah this summer.
He also possesses a huge creative ability in attacking areas, which could see him emulate Coutinho in thriving on Merseyside should a deal be completed.
Conceicao has featured in 23 Serie A games this term, registering six combined goals and assists – but such figures don’t fully reflect the talent he possesses.
The forward has created 1.5 chances per 90 so far this season, whilst completing 89% of the passes he’s attempted – ranking him in the top 3% of all attackers in the division.

Such numbers demonstrate his ability to pick out a teammate in the final third – a trait Coutinho became hugely known for during his five years at Anfield.
The Juventus star has also completed 56% of the dribbles he’s attempted, often having the star quality to glide past the opposition and tee up teammates in front of goal.
His tally of 7.7 touches in the opposition box per 90 only adds to his threat in the final third – with Conceicao having the ability to either go alone or provide the goods to those around him.
£40m for a player of his quality in today’s market would be an excellent piece of business for the Reds, and one that could solve their issues within the final third.
Should he get anywhere near the levels produced by the Brazilian on Merseyside, the move could go down as one of the club’s best pieces of business in recent years.
