Manchester United offered chance to sign 26-year-old Barcelona star as Catalans attempt to extend Marcus Rashford’s loan: Reports

Manchester United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Barcelona forward Ferran Torres this summer. The plan is reportedly a part of the Catalans’ attempt to keep Marcus Rashford at the club for a longer time.

Marcus Rashford signed for Barcelona on loan for a season from Manchester United in the summer of 2025. The deal reportedly includes an option to buy him permanently at the end of the loan season. However, it appears that Barca are considering extending the loan for another season instead, while also looking at selling some of their players this summer to make space for new signings. One of the players reportedly set to be put on the market is Ferran Torres.

According to teamTALK (h/t The Mirror), Barcelona have offered Manchester United to sign Ferran Torres this summer amid their plans of offloading the forward. The Catalans are also hoping to keep Marcus Rashford on loan for another season, and Torres’ potential move to Old Trafford could help with the same.

The report further suggests that Manchester United are open to the idea of signing Ferran Torres. The Spaniard also has experience of playing in the Premier League as he spent close to two years at Manchester City before joining Barcelona in January 2022. The Catalans are not happy with Torres’ inconsistent display as a striker and are reportedly looking for new options to reinforce the position, with the Spaniard’s departure seen as an important step to balance the books.

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford makes feelings clear about extending his stay at Barcelona

In an interview with SPORT last December, Marcus Rashford mentioned that he would like to stay at Barcelona for longer than a season-long loan. He said:

“Of course what I want is to stay at Barca. It’s an end goal, but it’s not the reason why I’m training hard and giving it my best. The purpose is to win. Barca is a huge, fantastic club, built to win titles. There is pressure here, but it is not a negative pressure. It’s the one you want as a player, the one I want and have always wanted as a footballer.”

Rashford also seemingly hinted at falling out of favor at Manchester United under former boss Ruben Amorim, although he was sacked in January this year. The Englishman said:

“I can’t be in a place where important objectives are not demanded of you. For me, it is more difficult to be motivated and give my best at a club where the demand is not maximum. I’m in the perfect place and environment to continue my journey as a football player, so I just try to do my best every day and help the team win. We’ll see what happens next summer.”

Rashford has recorded 10 goals and 13 assists in 39 outings across competitions for Barca this season. His future will depend on how the rest of the season goes, as Flick is expected to depend more on the Englishman after Raphinha‘s latest injury during the international break.
