Newcastle United have submitted an offer for a “superb” forward who has received widespread interest from within the Premier League, including from leaders Arsenal.
Newcastle ramping up pursuit of forward amid Howe uncertainty
After bringing Newcastle’s 70-year trophy drought to an end last season, it would be fair to say Eddie Howe has failed to kick on, with his side 12th in the Premier League table and no longer competing in any cup competitions.
Howe‘s future is now said to be in doubt, after an “intense” meeting with chief executive David Hopkinson, who said about the situation: “I don’t have a stance on his [Howe’s] future.
“What I can tell you is that the derby loss hurt. We take it seriously. There’s nothing within us that thinks: ‘Well, it’s just three points and on we go.’ It has resonated. I spent a couple of hours in a one-on-one lunch with Eddie and we talked through a multitude of things including Sunderland.”
Although Howe’s future is up in the air, work is continuing in the background ahead of the summer transfer window, and the Magpies have now made a move for a new forward.
PIF stepping up pursuit of “superb” Brazilian
According to a report from RTI Esporte (via Sport Witness), Newcastle have now submitted a bid for Palmeiras forward Eduardo Conceicao, as they look to get ahead of Premier League rivals Arsenal in the race for his signature.
The Gunners have already approached Conceicao’s camp and are named as the first major interested party, but the Magpies have attempted a hijack and seen a £21.5m bid knocked back by the Brazilian club.
Palmeiras are hoping to receive at least £34m, which would be a huge sum to pay for a 16-year-old, who is clearly very highly regarded, given that the teenager has a €100m (£86m) release clause included in his contract.
Scout Jacek Kulig is a keen admirer of the Brazilian starlet, taking to X to praise him and give an overview of his key strengths last month.
The youngster has caught the eye for Palmeiras U20s, amassing five goals and three assists in 13 outings, which is impressive at just 16-years-old, but given that he is yet to make an appearance for the senior side, it may be a while before Conceicao is ready to start for a club like Newcastle.
Newcastle hold talks for “one of the best strikers in the world” who’s “ready” to join
Both Newcastle and Chelsea have held talks over the signing of a PSG star.
