The opening round of the 2026 Monte-Carlo Masters will have two crafty players, Gael Monfils and Tallon Griekspoor, lock horns in an exciting clash.

Given the recent run of form, Tallon Griekspoor will come into the contest as a favorite. On clay, however, things can unfold a little differently.
The Dutchman’s flat hitting and big serve are huge assets in quick conditions, but he is forced to work much harder on the slower red dirt. Gael Monfils’ exceptional court coverage and versatility will only add to his woes.
The former finalist has not played a lot of tennis but he will come into the clay season rejuvenated after a three-week break. He is a natural mover on the surface and has the variety that troubles even the best.
If fully fit, Monfils can weave a web with his dropshots, volleys and slice-and-dice and score an upset win.
