Rangers now in strong position to sign Championship star with same agent as Jack Butland

Rangers are now well-placed to secure the signature of a “special” Championship star, who is represented by the same agent as Jack Butland.

Gers eyeing summer signings amid title race

The Gers simply had too much firepower for Dundee United on Saturday, blitzing past their Scottish Premiership rivals 4-2 at Ibrox, which means they are now at the summit of the table.

However, Hearts have the opportunity to move back up to first place later today, when they travel to Livingston, while Celtic can close the gap back to just two points if they are able to emerge victorious at Dundee FC.

Danny Rohl has insisted he isn’t going to pay any attention to the Gers’ title rivals’ matches though, saying: “I will do the same as the last matchday. I put my phone off — no ticker, no LiveScore.

“Last time, I got a message from my assistant coach saying: “Did you see the result?”.

“I said: “No, what happened?”. He said: “Great result”.

“So, I will do exactly the same and maybe three times in a row it will happen. Let’s see — but I’m not available this time on Sunday.”

Although the Light Blues’ attacking quality was on full display on Saturday afternoon, they remain keen on strengthening their attacking options in the summer, and they are now well-placed to secure the signature of a Championship striker.

Rangers looking to sign “special” striker

According to reporter Alan Nixon (via Give Me Sport), Rangers are now interested in signing Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt, who is currently on loan at Hull City, and they are in a strong position to get a deal done.

Indeed, given that the Gers and Leeds are both under 49ers ownership, there is a feeling a loan or permanent deal could be in the pipeline, although Hull are hoping to keep hold of the forward for another season.

The Tigers’ ability to compete for Gerhardt’s signature will hinge upon whether they are able to reach the Premier League, however, with the Championship side currently sitting in fifth place.

Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic has certainly been pleased by some of the Liverpool-born striker’s performances, describing him as “special” earlier this season, and the loanee has a combined 18 goals and assists to his name in all competitions.

The 23-year-old, who is represented by the same agent as Butland, has 13 goals to his name in the Championship alone, and he loves to drive at opposition defences, as evidenced by the fact he is averaging 1.6 successful dribbles per 90 in the second tier, the most of any Hull player.

Gelhardt has shown he is ready to test himself at a higher level, whether that’s in the Premier League or playing for a Scottish heavyweight like Rangers, and a deal seemingly shouldn’t be too difficult to arrange, given that the Gers and Leeds are under the same ownership.
