First Singles Match in 364 Days on SmackDown: WWE Star Seemingly Frustrated

The recent SmackDown was a happening event. The in-ring debut of Danhausen, the Pat McAfee explanation, a major Iyo Sky main event, and a Royce Keys’ SmackDown debut made it special. That last part definitely was a big deal for the former AEW star, but his opponent seems demotivated by it.

Berto from the Los Garza took to Instagram to post their SmackDown picture with a disheartening caption. It was written along the lines of them going “backwards.” That could imply their zero-to-none progress in WWE, and even a singles loss for Berto. The 30-year-old even returned to his singles action after a year (364 days).

“Feels like we only go backwards, darling,” wrote Berto.

This is contrary to the online rumbling around Los Garza last month, as a match against Damian Priest & R-Truth brought their A-game back. Fans rallied for them because they were one of the best teams on the roster, but were underrated. Some online exchanges by Angel even ignited those talks. Coming from that, Los Garza might’ve expected something better, but they are back to square one.

What else happened on that SmackDown?

The SmackDown, airing live from San Jose, was kicked off by Rhea Ripley, who was joined later by Iyo Sky. A match for that night’s main event with Iyo vs. Jade Cargill was made official then. Home-town star Bayley then squared off against Alexa Bliss but lost the bout. Then the aforementioned Royce Keys vs. Berto match happened.

Pat McAfee then cut a passionate promo, which was interrupted by Cody Rhodes. To divert his attention, Randy Orton attacked Jelly Roll, infuriating him. The mind tricks worked, and with a numbers advantage, Pat and Randy decimated Cody. Jacob Fatu competed and won against Tama Tonga but was later attacked by Drew McIntyre. Their brawl went unsanctioned like their scheduled match at WrestleMania 42 Night 1.

Trick Williams and Sami Zayn had a heated promo exchange followed by the former’s match with Matt Cardona. Even after Zayn attacked Lil Yachty, Williams stayed focused and won against Cardona. Then Danhausen won his in-ring debut match against Kit Wilson. In the main event, Cargill defeated Sky and was still attacking her, but then Ripley came to the rescue and ended the show.
