Rangers are now in a strong position to sign Leeds United striker Joel Piroe in the summer transfer window, given that both clubs are under 49ers ownership.
Danny Rohl already has plenty of attacking firepower, as shown when his side overturned a two-goal deficit to rack up a 6-3 victory at Falkirk on Sunday, with Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski both bagging braces.
After Hearts and Celtic won their games on Saturday, the pressure was on the Gers to deliver at The Falkirk Stadium, and they made no mistake, sending out a real statement in a dominant attacking display, which closed the gap to Derek McInnes’ side to just one point.
However, the most difficult fixtures are still to come, as the Light Blues need to travel to Celtic Park and Tynecastle in May, before returning to Falkirk on the final day.
Rohl will be hoping his red-hot forward line will be enough to get over the line in the title race, but the Ibrox outfit have a golden opportunity to strengthen their attack even further in the summer transfer window.
49ers link could help Rangers sign Piroe
That is according to former Aberdeen chief Keith Wyness, who thinks Rangers have a “big” chance of signing Leeds striker Piroe, due to the shared 49ers ownership, telling Football Insider: “There’s one or two potential players that Rangers and Leeds should be starting to look at, that makes sense and is a benefit to both clubs. Piroe is one that I think could well be a potential to go.
“If it fits both clubs that, Leeds feel they’re oversupplied in that area and Rangers think that they’re undersupplied in that area, then it could be done quite easily, and it should be done quite easily.
“That [Piroe to Rangers] is one that has big potential of working. If not that one, there’ll be something happening this summer in that sort of connection.”
Piroe handed first international cap despite lack of game time at Leeds
The 26-year-old played a major role in Leeds’ promotion from the Championship last season, scoring 19 goals, which saw him win the Golden Boot, but he has struggled for game time in the Premier League, appearing for just 217 minutes across 13 appearances.
He was a monster vs Falkirk: Rohl may have just found the new Hagi for Rangers
Danny Rohl may have unearthed his own version of Ianis Hagi for Rangers with this resurgent star.
However, the £40k-a-week forward’s lack of game time at club level was no barrier to him receiving his first international cap, playing the full 90 minutes for Suriname in their 2-1 World Cup play-off defeat against Bolivia at the end of last month.
Lauded as “outstanding” by Leeds boss Daniel Farke, Piroe’s performances in the Championship suggest he could hit the ground running in the Scottish Premiership, but Rohl already has plenty of options in attack.
