4-2-3-1 manager who plays “unreal football” now Crystal Palace’s number one target

AFC Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is now Crystal Palace‘s number one target to replace Oliver Glasner, who is set to leave in the summer.

Glasner remains fully focused on signing off at Palace with another trophy, and he is in a strong position to do exactly that, having led his side to a 3-1 victory at Shakhtar Donetsk in the first leg of the Europa Conference League semi-final.

When asked whether he will find it hard to leave the Eagles, he said: “I think it is the wrong moment to discuss my future. It is not important – now it is 100% focus, hopefully until the 27th of May with a huge party, and then we will see that I can party as well.”

With the Austrian due to leave, Steve Parish & co have started assessing potential replacements, and there are a plethora of options, including ex-Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior, Coventry City’s Frank Lampard and Manchester United’s Ruben Amorim.

Andoni Iraola now Crystal Palace’s top manager target

Iraola has also emerged as an option, with the AFC Bournemouth manager set to leave the Vitality Stadium in the summer, and there has now been a new update on Crystal Palace’s pursuit.

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, in a report from Football Insider, Palace have identified Iraola as their number one target to replace Glasner, and an approach has already been made.

“Crystal Palace are long term admirers of Iraola and they see him as their top target who could step into the void when Oliver Glasner leaves.

“They have made contact with his representatives to see if he would be willing to make that move.

“But now Chelsea, following the departure of Liam Rosenior, are also interested in the Spaniard and have made contact with his representatives as well.

“He’s going to have lots of options and offers probably in the summer, not just from the Premier League, there’ll be interest from some top European leagues in him as well.”

Not only has O’Rourke raved about the 43-year-old, but he has also received plaudits from analyst Matthew Avery, who said Bournemouth were playing “unreal football” last season.

Since then, the Cherries have gone on to enjoy a stellar 2025-26 campaign, and they are knocking on the door of European qualification, with just three games left to play.

WIth O’Rourke revealing Iraola, who prefers a 4-2-3-1 formation, is set to be in high demand, it may be important for Palace to have European football on offer next season, and they have one foot in the Europa Conference League final after the comfortable victory against Shakhtar Donetsk.
