Former top 10 player Paula Badosa will take on Varvara Lepchenko in the quarterfinals of the Nordea Open 2026.
Badosa scored a 6-3, 6-2 win over compatriot Marina Bassols Ribera to set up a second-round date with sixth seed Emiliana Arango. The Spaniard drew first blood in the opening set with a break of serve to go 3-1 up. A hold of serve in the next game consolidated her lead, and she remained ahead until the end to clinch the opener.
Badosa broke Arango’s serve to kick off the second set, only for the latter to break back immediately. Arango held serve in the next game to make it 2-1, and that marked the end of the road for her. Badosa swept the next five games to register a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Lepchenko fought past Lisa Zaar in three sets to reach the second round, where second seed Tamara Korpatsch awaited her. The American handed a breadstick to her opponent to capture the first set with ease.
Lepchenko made a strong start to the second set. She raced to a 3-0 lead, only for Korpatsch to halt her momentum with a two-game run. Lepchenko seized control of the match once again, bagging the next three games for a 6-1, 6-2 win.
