Beast of Reincarnation Crimson Malefact (Koo) boss guide: Attacks, weaknesses, and tips to defeat easily

Crimson Malefact is the main boss of the fairly short Chapter 9 of Beast of Reincarnation. Unfortunately, you will have to tackle this boss by yourself without any assistance from Koo as he will be gone after the events of Chapter 8, leaving Emma with no memories of the past events. While finding the Crimson Malefact is extremely easy, defeating it can be tricky.

In this guide, we will break down how to find and defeat the Crimson Malefact boss in Beast of Reincarnation.

Once you wake up inside the Bauera, explore the Inukami River Colony and speak to the locals to learn more about the Crimson Malefact and its location. After speaking with the Scout Golem, you will have to use the trams to reach the next section of the map. From the circular platform, go left and you will find the lair of the Crimson Malefact.

Beast of Reincarnation: How to defeat the Crimson Malefact

Unlike previous bosses, you will have to face the Crimson Malefact by yourself without Koo, making this fight more challenging for you. The Crimson Malefact is vulnerable to water attacks, so be sure that you have a water-infused katana, which will make the fight significantly easier.

The Crimson Malefact has two phases, but unlike other bosses, the second phase starts after you lower its HP by 50%. Here are the attacks the boss uses during each of its phases:

    Phase 1

    1) Pounce attack

The Crimson Malefact will jump backwards and pounce towards you from a distance. Once it lands, it will erect spikes from the ground dealing massive amounts of damage.

This attack can’t be parried, so you will need to perfectly dodge it to avoid taking any damage.

Additionally, the Crimson Malefact will use this skill from close range without the long windup, making it extremely tricky to dodge.

Sometimes, the Crimson Malefact will leap backwards after which it will throw rocks towards you. You won’t be able to parry this attack, so you will need to dodge sideways to avoid taking damage from the projectiles.

When in close range, the Crimson Malefact will stand up on its hind legs and charge up for a powerful blow. Luckily, this attack can be parried and a well-timed parry will open up the boss for counterattacks.

Occasionally the Crimson Malefact will swipe its tail towards you, dealing a moderate amount of damage. To parry this attack, you will need to time your movement perfectly.

When the boss is near you, it will use a triple bite combo attack that can easily kill you. Parrying them can be extremely difficult, so either dodge away from the attacks or be perfect with your parry timings.

    6) Triple slash combo

Similar to the bite combo attacks, the Crimson Malefact will claw at you three times in a row (Image via Game Freak)

Between its ranged attacks, the Crimson Malefact will swiftly swipe at you three times. The windup is fairly easy to notice, but if you miss a dodge/parry this attack can easily kill you.

During the fight, the boss will randomly enter an enraged phase and deliver a five-hit combo followed by a tail swipe. This attack cannot be parried, so you will need to dodge it as it will definitely kill you.

    Phase 2

During the second phase, the Crimson Malefact will use all of the attacks from Phase 1 but it will also start using more blight and elemental skills. Here are all the new skills the boss uses in Phase 2:

    1) Blight vines

During the second phase, the boss will launch blight vines towards you that will explode into thorny vines when they are near your location. Dodge this attack to avoid getting caught.

    2) Projectile attacks

In Phase 2 the boss will occasionally bombard you with both lightning and fire projectiles (Image via Game Freak)

In the second phase of the boss fight, the Crimson Malefact will occasionally throw a single lightning projectile that will also bombard you with additional lightning strikes if you get hit by it. Alternatively, it will also attack you with multiple fire projectiles that can easily stagger and kill you. So avoiding them is the best option you have.
