Cody Rhodes shares heartbreaking one-word message following The Butcher’s tragic passing

WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes shared a heartbreaking message on social media to pay his respect to The Butcher. The former AEW star tragically passed away this Saturday.

The real-life Andy Williams experienced a medical emergency during a tag team match. The Butcher and his partner, The Blade, were battling The Mane Event at an independent wrestling show at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale, Pennsylvania. The popular musician reportedly collapsed at the end of the bout and tragically passed away aged just 48.

Earlier today, former Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes took to Instagram Stories to pay homage to Andy Williams. The 41-year-old wrote the late star’s nickname within double quotation marks and a red heart emoji.

    “”Butch”❤️,” Rhodes wrote.

During his time in AEW, The American Nightmare shared the ring with The Butch on televised shows on two separate occasions. On the December 11, 2019, episode of AEW Dynamite, The Butcher And The Blade defeated Cody and QT Marshall in a tag team match. However, Rhodes got his revenge the following week by joining forces with Darby Allen to secure a victory over the former PWR Tag Team Champions.

Cody Rhodes is set for action later tonight at a major WWE event

On Night One of SummerSlam, Cody Rhodes challenged CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The two stars traded blows in an engaging back-and-forth contest for nearly half an hour.

However, the match ended in controversy, as the returning Randy Orton made his way to the squared circle, and while the referee was knocked out, The Viper floored The American Nightmare with an RKO. It allowed The Second City Saint to hit the GTS and secure the win.

The following week on Friday Night SmackDown, Rhodes and Orton officially reignited their rivalry and are set to lock horns at WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event. The former stablemates had been following a strict “no-touch” rule enforced by SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis. They will finally have an opportunity to trade blows later tonight at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
