Each week, Yardbarker spotlights college football stars, some of whom will be playing on NFL Sundays. With that in mind, here are five Week 4 standouts.
No WR has gone No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft since the New York Jets selected former USC Trojans standout Keyshawn Johnson in 1996. Could Smith become the next one?
Positional value, of course, will factor into whoever owns the No. 1 pick in the 2027 draft (scheduled April 29-May 1 in Washington). Most franchises typically use it on a QB. But a team with the top pick should consider spending it on a franchise-altering talent like Smith, who tied an Ohio State record in a 42-19 blowout of the Illinois Fighting Illini.
Against Illinois, Smith caught 12 passes for 217 yards and four touchdowns, matching Terry Glenn’s 1995 mark for receiving TDs in a game. This follows his becoming the program’s all-time leader in receiving yards (3,175) in a 59-3 Week 3 win over the Kent State Golden Flashes.
