Graham Potter confident over support of Chelsea squad

Chelsea manager Graham Potter is adamant he feels the support of his players, despite acknowledging the team’s current run of form has landed him ‘in peril’.

The Blues are stuck on a run of two wins from their past 15 games and are closer to the relegation zone that the top four, with Potter’s future at the club under immense pressure ahead of a crucial meeting with old rivals Leeds United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Fan support for Potter is growing weaker with each passing game, but the boss remains confident that the Chelsea squad are still behind him.

“I feel the support of the players, I feel the support of everyone here,” he said. “I understand the frustrations externally but among the players, it is a desire for us all to do better and that is the pleasing thing. The results haven’t been good but we are still fighting for each other.”

Questioned about concerns over his players’ performances, Potter admitted that his coaching methods may have to change after clearly failing to yield the desired results during his first six months in charge.

“When you’ve had the results we have had clearly it is not perfect otherwise you would have better results,” Potter confessed. “Clearly it is a process of how to get our message across better. How can we structure things in a way to help the players? Because that is what we are here for.

“When results aren’t good, from my point of view you have to accept that we haven’t done it well enough.

“Now that’s the reality we are in and I am sure the players will take responsibility and admit they can do better as well. We are in it together. I don’t feel any loss of anything.”

Potter, who also insisted he feels supported by those in charge at Stamford Bridge, went on to acknowledge that the team’s run of form has left him in a perilous position.

“When you are a head coach and you start on this journey you say: ‘Well if the results aren’t good enough then you know your job is in peril’,” he said. “That’s the life we lead.

“I just have to accept that and do my best and try to improve the situation we are in until there is a point where we are not able to go forward. But that hasn’t been the case and we keep fighting.”

On this week’s edition of TFP, Harry Symeou hosts Grizz KhanScott Saunders and Hunter Godson to preview the weekend’s Premier League action, including Man Utd’s trip to Anfield to face Liverpool.

  • Gonzaga on the move? Big 12 and Pac-12 are Options

Gonzaga on the move? Big 12 and Pac-12 are Options

Despite not winning a national championship, there’s an argument that the Gonzaga men’s basketball program has been the standard for the last five to ten years, excluding Villanova. Mark Few has produced a level of consistency that is difficult to match. Despite this, the possible move to a Power 6 conference seems to be too big of a carrot for the Zags basketball program to ignore.

    Big 12

Several reports say Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormak is aggressively courting Gonzaga. Last month, Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger reported, “The conference has aggressively courted multiple Pac-12 schools, as well as Gonzaga, in a bid to further expand.”

Gonzaga’s current West Coast Conference rival, BYU, has already accepted a bid to join the Big 12 next school year. Texas and Oklahoma will head to the SEC in 2024. The Big 12 also adds Houston, UCF, and Cincinnati in response.

The opportunity of Gonzaga having multiple wars a season with basketball powerhouses Kansas, Baylor, and Houston is very compelling. The Big 12 has been the best and deepest conference in basketball the past few seasons, and the gap would only widen with the possible addition of Gonzaga.

It is easy to see why Gonzaga would be a draw for any conference. In a 2021 report, the men’s and women’s basketball programs earned $20 million in revenue. However, a union with the Big 12 would create massive travel expenses for the other sports teams.

    Pac-12

The Pac-12 would seem to be a natural geographical fit for Gonzaga. In addition to the ease of travel, there would be a seamless transition for the other sports Gonzaga offers. The major roadblock is on the Pac-12’s side. They have yet to agree to a commitment with a TV network or streaming service to broadcast their games, which will likely prioritize football. Apple is reported to be considering acquiring the broadcast rights for Pac-12 sports.

With its two most prominent brands leaving the conference, the Pac-12 is in disarray. Ultimately, this causes some hang-ups in any potential deal between Gonzaga and the Pac-12, but the voids left by USC and UCLA still need to be filled.

  • World Football Records That Might Never Be Broken

World Football Records That Might Never Be Broken

Every now and then, the impossible is almost outrageously achieved in football. Whether it is an astonishing achievement such as Lionel Messi’s incoming eighth Ballon d’Or, or Chelsea conceding just 15 goals in an entire Premier League campaign.

As the saying goes on, records are meant to be broken but there are some records that are unlikely to be broken and would require some heroic efforts to break.

Football has a unique ability to shock, amaze, and amuse in equal measure, but these records are so astonishing and shocking, they might never ever be broken.

Most red cards in a match

When we think of red cards, images of Roy Keane shattering Alfe-Ing Haaland’s knee and Sergio Ramos flying through opposing players comes to mind.

However, in the deepest darkest, and most passionate footballing depths off Greater Buenos Aires, Argentina, a battle of the ages took place between Victoriano Arenas and Claypole in 2011.

An astounding 36 red cards were handed out after an all-out brawl took place. All 22 players on the pitch and 14 substitutes were given their marching orders – no match has ever come close to the number of red cards shown in this tumultuous affair.

Most goals scored by a goalkeeper – Rogerio Ceni

The goalkeeper’s primary job is to save goals not score, but with Brazilian goalkeeper, Rogerio Ceni did both. He recorded a total of 128 career goals in his career. Ceni netted a series of penalties and free-kicks into the back of the net. And in a few seasons, he became one of the leading strikers in his team. This record is very unlikely to be broken.

Most World Cup final appearances – Cafu

Twenty-one different players have won more than one World Cup, from Bellimi to Zozimo – two of the 16 Brazilians to do so, alongside Italy quartet Giovanni Ferrari, Guido Masetti, Giuseppe Meazza, Eraldo Monzeglio and Argentina legend Daniel Passarella.

Pele stands alone with three trophy wins, with his success in 1958 and 1970 supplemented by Brazilian glory in 1962, when the forward missed the Selecao’s last four games through injury.

He is one of the five players to feature in three World Cup-winning squads, a feat matched by Lothar Matthaus, Pierre Littbarski and Ronaldo. But only Cafu has played in three finals, coming on as a substitute and finishing the 1994 penalty shootout victory over Italy, losing to France in 1998 and lifting the famous trophy again against Germany in 2002.

Most goals scored in a calendar year – Lionel Messi

One of the most admired and famous footballers in the modern era of the game, Lionel Messi, holds this impeccable feat. The seven-time FIFA Ballon d’Or award winner in the 2011-2012 football season scored a total of 91 goals for both club, Barcelona and National team, Argentina. Messi scored 79 goals for club side and 12 goals for his country, which helped him land a spot in the record books. It was one of the best years for Messi in his professional career.

Most international goals – Cristiano Ronaldo

There are no prizes for guessing who the holder of this gong is – Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese superstar broke Ali Daei’s record of 109 goals in 149 appearances for the Iranian national team, when he scored a brace in Portugal’s 2-1 victory against Ireland.

Ronaldo has since added to his international tally, accumulating a truly legendary 116 goals in 184 appearances for Portugal.

Youngest scorer in a final – Pele

Take your pick of Pele records, really. The youngest scorer (17 years, 239 days), youngest hat-trick scorer (17 years, 244 days) and top overall assist provider (10) is also one of four players to score three goals in finals, one of a slightly different quartet to score in more than one final, and is officially recognised as the only player to win the World Cup on three different occasions.

Pele played every minute in Brazil’s 1970 success, scoring four goals and assisting six, while he only played the first two matches of Chile ’62 due to injury. But it was four years before in Sweden when a teenaged sensation established his legacy with a goal against Wales in the quarters, a hat-trick to beat France in the semis and two goals to sink the hosts in the final.

Longest goal ever scored – Asmir Begovic

Some teams conjure a second wind when they need it most, but then Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic managed to find a wonderful gust in 2013.

The former Chelsea and current Everton shot-stopper’s routine clearance was propelled further forward by the wind so spectacularly, it bounced over Southampton goalkeeper Artur Boruc and into the back of the net.

Begovic almost looked embarrassed when he was mobbed by his teammates, but the Bosnian ace’s incredible strike from 100.5 yards went down in football and world record history.

Most appearances in Premier League – Gareth Barry

The Premier League has been a really difficult environment for players to survive in the long-term, because of the matches being held continuously. It’s not an easy job to be injury-free always but there are certain players who adapted to the conditions perfectly and managed to play in it regularly throughout their career.

While some players struggle to make 100 Premier League appearances, Reliable Gareth Barry showed incredible longevity by breaking the record of most Premier League appearances by a player. He’s currently holding that record, having made 652 appearances in the league for numerous teams.

Most goals in one World Cup – Just Fontaine

Only Miroslav Klose (16 goals in four tournaments), Ronaldo (15 goals in three tournaments) and Gerd Muller (13 goals in two tournaments) have ever scored more World Cup goals than Just Fontaine managed at his only finals in 1958.

Three, two and one against Paraguay, Yugoslavia and Scotland respectively in the groups, became two in a quarter-final win over Northern Ireland and one in semi-final defeat to Brazil, before four were plundered in a third-place play-off against West Germany.

Kylian Mbappe might come close, if he continues his World Cup form over the next 12 years.

Most number of World Cups – Pele

This record is held by none other than a legend, Pele. The one who burst onto the world football scene at age 16, excelling both for club team Santos and the Brazilian national side. Winning the FIFA World Cup is the absolute pinnacle in the career of any football player. And By the end of his career, Pelé had won three FIFA World Cups with Brazil, the most wins of the World Cup by any player.

  • IRS Transcripts Online: How to get your tax transcript immediately online?

IRS Transcripts Online: How to get your tax transcript immediately online?

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) receives numerous phone calls from taxpayers asking for their prior-year tax transcript, which is a copy of their tax return.

However, the IRS is extremely busy during these first months of the year. Hence, United States taxpayers are encouraged to use the quicker and more convenient online choices in order to avoid the rush.

It has to be noted that the commercial tax software system will typically carry over the data from the previous year for returning users, making the validation procedure quick and simple. Yet, it’s possible that taxpayers using brand-new tax software products for the first time will need to manually enter the data.

How to get your tax transcript immediately online?

By creating a four-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN), also referred to as a Self-Select PIN, taxpayers can electronically sign their tax forms. They must input their birthdates and either their adjusted gross income from the prior-year return or the prior-year Self-Select PIN in order to confirm that e-signature PIN.

“Taxpayers may obtain a tax transcript online from the IRS,” reads the IRS press release.

“Use Get Transcript Online to immediately view the AGI. Taxpayers must pass the Secure Access identity verification process. Select the “Tax Return Transcript” and use only the “Adjusted Gross Income” line entry.

“The electronic signature is the way the taxpayer acknowledges that information on the tax return is true and accurate. Validating the electronic signature by using prior-year adjusted gross income is one way the IRS, state tax agencies and the tax industry work to protect taxpayers from identity thieves.”

The IRS offers taxpayers a sign-in option with ID.me, which provides access to IRS online services with a secure account. According to the IRS, ID.me is an account created, maintained, and secured by a technology provider.

“The IRS offers multiple ways to verify your identity with ID.me,” reads the IRS official website.

“You can use either a self-service process that requires a photo of a government ID and selfie, or a live call with an ID.me video chat agent that doesn’t require biometric data.

“Any selfie, video, and/or biometric data will be deleted automatically, except for suspicious or fraudulent activity. If you need help verifying your identity or to submit a support ticket, you can visit the ID.me IRS Help Site.”

  • Tomiyasu could replace White for Arsenal

Tomiyasu could replace White for Arsenal

Injury expert Ben Dinnery believes that Arsenal right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu could start their next game ahead of first-choice pick Ben White.

What has Dinnery said about Tomiyasu?

The Japan international has found himself drop down the pecking order this season, as White moved from centre-back to full-back and has made himself nearly undroppable.

Will Arteta start Tomiyasu against Bournemouth?

    Yes

    No

    No

Tomiyasu has filled in at left-back at times this season, but started his first game in his preferred right-back position against Manchester City, where he made a crucial error leading to a goal.

Speaking on the Premier FPL Injuries Channel, Dinnery stated that he could come in for rotation as Arsenal face Bournemouth, which would give Tomiyasu a chance to regain his confidence and allow White to have a rest after playing two games this week.

(5.25) “We may see a change there at right back and that’s Tomiyasu,” he stated.

“He came in for that game against Manchester City, but gave that goal away.

“It was a great finish by Kevin De Bruyne, but maybe just in terms of a fitness perspective and maybe a confidence issue, and also to rest Ben White who, of course, who’s had a three-game week. That’s why I’d have Tomiyasu starting at right back.”

    Does White need a rest?

White has started all but one of Arsenal’s league matches this season, and he was benched against City after his form slightly dipped in the games leading up to it.

He is often substituted for Tomiyasu, having been withdrawn in 13 of his 24 league starts, and whilst he has been outstanding for most of the season, the fixtures are now piling up for Arsenal.

White has been described as “fantastic” by Tomiyasu, and the two share a competitive but healthy relationship as they both battle for the right-back spot.

A return to Europa League action sees Mikel Arteta’s side travel to Lisbon for their last 16 clash with Sporting CP, before a tough test away at Fulham, and White could be rotated ahead of the game at Craven Cottage to keep him fresh.

  • Looking Ahead: 4-Star MBB Recruits Primed for Immediate Roles

Looking Ahead: 4-Star MBB Recruits Primed for Immediate Roles

In the college basketball recruiting cycle, 5-star recruits get the most attention and hype leading into the season. However, every season 3 and 4-star freshmen substantially impact their programs. To name a few, players like Jett Howard (Michigan), Noah Clowney (Alabama), Braden Smith (Purdue), and Aidan Mahaney (Saint Mary’s) have starred for their teams, some even deserving of all-conference honors. Which incoming freshmen could provide similar impacts next year?

    Milan Momcilovic, Iowa State

The consistently elite defense sticks out when considering TJ Otzelberger’s Iowa State squads. However, one thing lacking in the last two seasons is consistent offensive creation. Momcilovic is a good passer and shooter, possessing crafty post moves inside. While he is lacking on the defensive end, expect his team around him can help make up for those deficiencies. With point guard Tamin Lipsey expected to return next season, there are tantalizing pick-and-pop possibilities between the two players. 5-star forward Omaha Biliew will likely get the hype for his seamless defensive fit next year, but Momcilovic has the offensive potential to lift this team to a deep tournament run.

Kaleb Glenn and Curtis Williams Jr, Louisville

Kenny Payne’s first season as head coach could not have gone much worse. However, his work as a recruiter should pay off in this next cycle. While still involved with 4-star center Dennis Evans, Payne will add two stud wings in Kaleb Glenn and Curtis Williams Jr. Glenn adds versatility and defensive prowess that was sorely lacking this year. Williams is a bona fide shot-maker with size. Coach Payne is prioritizing long wings, which make physical plays. With a solid 2022 class mostly expected to return, Payne will have no excuses left.

    Solomon Ball, UConn

NBA scouts will be drooling over Ball next season. At 6-3, Ball has a 6-10 wingspan and possesses high-level athleticism, with a measured 40-inch vertical jump. With Jordan Hawkins likely declaring for the draft, there will be minutes available for Ball from the jump. One of the stars of the EYBL, Ball, has reportedly added 25 pounds of muscle. 247Sports’ Adam Finkelstein’s scouting report states, “He was tops in the EYBL in scoring efficiency among volume scorers (per Synergy), while averaging 16 points per game and over a point per possession.” The Huskies will need a reliable two-way presence on the floor, and Ball will be able to provide it from the jump.

  • Souness expected Man Utd star to be ‘exposed’ under Ten Hag – ‘he’d annoy the life out of you’

Souness expected Man Utd star to be ‘exposed’ under Ten Hag – ‘he’d annoy the life out of you’

Graeme Souness has admitted that he thought Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez was going to be “exposed” this season.

Martinez was one of United’s marquee signings during last summer’s transfer window. Arsenal were also linked with him but he joined Man Utd for a fee of around £56m.

A few pundits questioned United’s decision to sign Martinez, with Jamie Carragher among those arguing that the Argentinian does not have the build needed to cope with the demands of the Premier League.

The World Cup winner has managed to silence all of his doubters, though. He has been in sensational form and he has formed an excellent partnership with Raphael Varane.

Souness also doubted Martinez, as he thought that the defender would be “exposed” in a Man Utd shirt.

“I think Lisandro Martinez is one of those players who, if you’re playing against him, would annoy the life out of you,” Souness told the Daily Mail.

“He’s a feisty so-and-so isn’t he? The phrase ‘argue in an empty house’ comes to mind! He’d have an argument with himself, looking in the mirror! But team-mates react to that.

“I thought he would be exposed when he arrived at United, because of his size and relative lack of pace. I have to hold my hands up, there. But he obviously has a real football brain and that ‘lead from the front’ mentality.

“You can see it in him. Everyone on the pitch, he wants to have an argument with. I love to see that.

“Casemiro’s got a bit of it in him, too. They’re the ones who can carry the flag. And then, behind them, you’ve got others suddenly ready to stand up and be counted.

“I like the way Erik ten Hag has reinstated discipline. These are the kinds of qualities I always remember when we went up against Manchester United.”

Martinez will be looking to keep out the likes of Mo Salah and Darwin Nunez this weekend when Man Utd travel to face Liverpool at Anfield.

Ahead of this game, Souness has suggested that Liverpool are still “capable of finishing in the top four”.

“Liverpool are ten points behind United but still have 45 points to play for and I still think they’re capable of finishing in the top four,” Souness added.

“United’s supporters in the last decade have been fantastic for a team who have not performed for them and it will be exactly the same for the Liverpool supporters, now.

“This is the biggest game in British football and they will make the atmosphere red hot for United. As always, it’s going to be a fascinating a prospect.”

Andrew Tate trolled mercilessly after manager confirms he has lung cancer

Andrew Tate — a self-proclaimed mysoginist currently in Romanian custody over human trafficking allegations — has lung cancer, his manager confirmed Friday on Instagram.

Tate, 36, reportedly has a “dark spot on his lung,” according to his legal team. They claim that it is “most likely a tumor.”

Andrew Tate and his brother get escorted to jail by police officers

“Yes, it’s true.” Tate’s manager wrote. “I was the one driving with him to and from the hospital in Dubai. I don’t have any more specifics to share.”

His manager, known as The Sartorial Shooter, confirmed the story shortly after reports claimed Tate’s team wanted him to receive treatment in Dubai.

Tate’s doctors, both in Dubai and Romania, reportedly confirmed he has a lesion of his upper right lung. He did not receive permission to leave the country for treatment and will be detained for at least until the end of March.

No mercy for Andrew Tate amid cancer news

The usual suspects to defend Tate, such as Adin Ross, were quick to claim that “The Matrix” was trying to kill their fallen hero.

Others, however, had no mercy when trolling Tate online. Just a couple days prior, people were making fun of his inability to grow a full head of hair because he constantly bragged that he was bald by choice.

While news of cancer would often make trolls ease up on their target, the announcement only added fuel to the fire, who shared countless memes ccelebrating Tate’s illness.

Andrew and brother Tristan Tate are accussed of seducing women to make them produce pornography while sexually abusing them.

  • UCLA MBB Recruiting: Marcus Adams visits, Bruins in top schools

UCLA MBB Recruiting: Marcus Adams visits, Bruins in top schools

4-star PG Marcus Adams Jr. took an official visit to UCLA today. He has trimmed his final list to three, including Syracuse and Kansas, per Adams’s Twitter.

A top 100 recruit by some publications, Adams recently took an official visit to Kansas. Adams plays his high school ball at Narbonne High School in Harbor City, California. Narbonne lost in the Los Angeles Section Open Championship and later in the Division 2 State tournament.

    The Fit

Adams would be a significant addition to the UCLA men’s basketball program.

Without any class of 2024 commits, Adams would add some future depth on the wing. After this season, there will likely be significant turnover on the Bruins’ roster. Forward Jaime Jaquez and wings David Singelton and Amari Bailey are all likely gone after this season.

Coach Mick Cronin is known for developing wing scorers, even going back to his days as coach at Cincinnati. In addition to current players like Jaime Jacquez and Jaylen Clark, players like Jarron Cumberland, Sean Kilpatrick, Lance Stephenson, and Johnny Juzang all took starring roles for his teams.

Underlying his own commitment, Adams’s younger brother Maximo is building recruiting hype of his own. Maximo Adams, a freshman, has been picking up notable offers from Mississippi State, Oregon, Kansas State, Syracuse, Xavier, Texas, and Kansas, among others.

    Will Adams Commit To UCLA?

With the current remaining pool of talent waning at UCLA, Marcus Adams will have a path to immediate playtime. However, UCLA has a trio of 4-star forwards coming to the program in their 2023 recruiting class.

So much can change by the time Adams even decides on his commitment. First, he will likely take an official visit to Syracuse. Then, with a year to go and the uneven nature of recruiting, new schools could appear as contenders for Adams’s talent.

For the time being, UCLA will be a fine possible fit for a player of his caliber.

The 2023 NFL Combine continued on Friday and Michigan’s DJ Turner stole the show with the defensive backs taking center stage. Find out the fastest DB 40 times and watch the fastest cornerbacks and safeties run their 40-yard dash in Indianapolis.

Michigan cornerback DJ Turner blazed past the competition with an official 4.26-second 40-yard dash time, making him the fastest athlete at the 2023 NFL Combine.

The Big Ten was well-represented by DBs at the combine with three of the fastest 40-times being awarded to players from Michigan and Maryland.

Deonte Banks ran a 4.35-second 40-yard dash and was tied for a short time as the fastest athlete in Indianapolis. Not to be outdone, Jakorian Bennett bested his teammate by running a lightning-fast 40, clocking in 4.31 seconds.

Together, Turner, Bennett, and Banks ranked among the fastest cornerbacks in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Joey Porter Jr. Runs a Disappointing 4.47-second 40-Yard Dash

Perhaps one of the biggest surprises of the day, Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. clocked in at just 4.47 seconds.

Porter Jr. was widely expected to be the first cornerback selected and a surefire first-round pick. While the 40-yard dash time isn’t enough to move the needle on his draft stock, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see his stock slip between now and the 2023 NFL Draft.
