Travis Kelce's future in question: Super Bowl LIX outcome likely to completely alter his decision for 2025

Given his notoriety both on and now off the field, Travis Kelce is the player with the most eyes on him heading into Super Bowl LIX. Patrick Mahomes is obviously a huge star and continues to chase greatness. Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley are looking for their first ring on the other side. But everyone wants to see what Kelce is going to do in the game, and possibly after with Taylor Swift.

While everyone focuses on the Super Bowl, just like Kelce is, there’s an underlying storyline that hasn’t been mentioned much: Kelce’s possible retirement. Kelce is still playing well, but there’s no denying he’s lost a step from previous seasons. With a lucrative podcast under his belt and a blossoming relationship with Swift, would Kelce call it quits after The Big Game?

Travis Kelce finally addresses the Super Bowl halftime proposal rumors about Taylor Swift

Will Travis Kelce retire if Chiefs beat Eagles in Super Bowl LIX?

NFL.com’s Ian Rapaport delved into Kelce’s future in an article the night before the Super Bowl. In it, he admits that “the opportunities for Kelce are endless“, but then reveals that the outcome of Sunday’s game could make his decision for him.

A win would make the Chiefs the first NFL team to win three consecutive Super Bowls, allowing Kelce to walk off into the sunset in a way almost no one gets to do. A loss could fuel him to return for the 2025 season, but it also could show him it’s time.

Of course, no one actually knows what’s going through Kelce’s mind at the moment. But there is absolutely a dream scenario that would make a lot of sense, at least in the eyes of fans: Kelce wins the Super Bowl, proposes to Swift after the game, then retires and spends all of his spare time with Swift in a new chapter.

It’s certainly plausible, despite Kelce saying recently that he still loves playing football and doesn’t necessarily see the end in sight. Yet another Super Bowl triumph could change that, though.

Andy Reid says the Chiefs are ready for history: “We're in a good spot”

The Kansas City Chiefs have officially wrapped up their on-field preparations for Super Bowl LIX, putting the finishing touches on their game plan ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

On Friday, the team held its final full practice at Tulane University, a 70-minute session focused on special teams and situational drills. Head coach Andy Reid was pleased with how his squad handled the week, emphasizing that they’re right where they need to be as they chase history.

We’re in a good spot,” Reid said, per a pool report from Luke Johnson of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “You’ve got to make sure you stay focused the next couple of days and keep getting yourself ready. We’ll get a walk-through in tomorrow and then go play.”

Reid’s words reflect the confidence of a team that has been here before. With a chance to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls, the Chiefs are balancing excitement with business as usual. This marks the third consecutive practice with full attendance, a strong indicator that the team is locked in and ready to go.

Reid says team is “right where it needs to be”

The only minor hiccup came when practice squad defensive lineman Fabien Lovett left early due to illness. However, with the entire 53-man roster healthy and cleared for Sunday, it’s all systems go for the reigning champs.

With the heavy lifting done, the Chiefs will hold a brief walk-through on Saturday before taking their official team photo. Then, it’s game time. The anticipation is palpable, and the team knows the importance of staying mentally sharp in these final hours.

Veteran players like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have emphasized the importance of preparation and staying locked in. “At this stage, it’s all about execution,” Mahomes said earlier in the week. “We know what we have to do, and now it’s just about going out there and doing it.

The Chiefs’ postseason experience is a significant advantage. This marks their fourth Super Bowl appearance in five years, and they’ve shown time and time again that they know how to perform under pressure.

Travis Kelce slams criticism of New Orleans outing with Taylor Swift before Super Bowl LIX

Ahead of the Super Bowl LIX showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, Travis Kelce is brushing off criticism over his recent public outing in New Orleans after being accused of lacking focus for the biggest game of the season.

The star tight end, who is preparing for his third consecutive Super Bowl appearance, took to Instagram with a clear message for his critics just days before the game on Sunday, February 9 after being called out by fans online.

True Chiefs bromance! Mahomes-Kelce are not considered the best friends in defending champions roster

On Friday night, Kelce was seen dining with Taylor Swift and Patrick Mahomes at Lilette, a popular restaurant in New Orleans but the group’s casual outing raised eyebrows, with many questioning the 35-year-old’s focus as the Chiefs aim for an unprecedented third straight title.

The dinner came less than 48 hours before the biggest game of the season, leaving some fans concerned that Kelce might be distracted but according to the triple champion this is not the case.

In response to the backlash, Kelce posted a highlight reel on his Instagram, showing off key moments from his football career. The video was accompanied by a succinct four-word message: “Don’t peak too soon.”

The post served as a firm reminder that he is still fully prepared for the Super Bowl and has his sights set on victory as a professional should, despite the controversy surrounding his Friday night outing.

Kelce‘s confidence and calm in the face of criticism were apparent as he shared his focus on the field rather than on the opinions of fans. The Chiefs are chasing their third straight Super Bowl victory, and Kelce, along with Mahomes, remains central to their offensive strategy.

Brittany Mahomes takes advantage of trip to New Orleans while Patrick has to focus for Super Bowl

Brittany Mahomes is making the most of her time in New Orleans before Super Bowl 2025. The wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took her children on a fun trip to the local aquarium after arriving in the city for Sunday’s highly anticipated matchup.

“First adventure of NOLA, the aquarium ,” she shared on her Instagram Story on Friday, along with a sweet snapshot of her and her kids.

In the photo, Brittany, 29, posed in front of a giant fish tank while pushing a stroller with her 3-year-old daughter, Sterling, and 2-year-old son, Bronze. However, not everyone seemed excited about the visit. “Bronze… yes in fact, he did not like any of it,” she joked.

Embracing mom life in New Orleans

For the family outing, Brittany kept her look casual with jeans, a white T-shirt, Adidas sneakers, and a “Mom Szn” cap, embracing her busy role as a mother of three. The Mahomes family recently welcomed their third child, Golden Raye Mahomes, during the Chiefs‘ bye week in January.

Brittany and Patrick announced their daughter’s birth on January 12 with a touching black-and-white photo showing them holding hands near the newborn’s tiny feet.

Despite giving birth just weeks ago, Brittany has remained a devoted supporter of Patrick, attending his playoff games and now making the trip to New Orleans for the Super Bowl.

    Golden’s first football game

While baby Golden stayed home for previous games, Patrick confirmed earlier this week that she will be attending the Super Bowl.

“She’s been amazing, she’s been sleeping well. Mom’s been extremely happy, and I’m excited for her to be able to come,” the Chiefs star shared. “I think it’ll be her first football game at the Super Bowl, and I hope that we get her a win.”

The Mahomes family will be seated in a large suite with friends and relatives, and Patrick’s mother, Randi Martin, has already volunteered to help Brittany with the kids. “So I may or may not watch the game, but I will be holding the grandbabies!” she told Page Six at the NFL Honors event.

With the Chiefs aiming for an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl victory, Brittany and her family are soaking up every moment in New Orleans before the big game.

Travis Kelce elaborates on his retirement and current role with the Chiefs

Travis Kelce has put to rest any speculation regarding his potential retirement, confirming that he intends to return for at least another season, regardless of the outcome of Super Bowl LVIII.

As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to face the San Francisco 49ers, the veteran tight end remains focused on extending his career and adding to his legacy.

Travis Kelce gardening! Is he preparing himself for a life with Taylor Swift?

Speaking with reporters ahead of the championship game, Kelce emphasized his continued passion for the sport.

“I’ve got a full heart of football left in me,” Kelce stated, as reported by Adam Teicher of ESPN. “I really love this game and I think throughout the year it can get pretty tough. But it’s moments like these, the playoffs, these memories that I’ll have with the teammates and coaches that I go to war with… wanting to keep that legacy or keep finding new ways to create those memories I think will, I don’t know, just keep fueling me and my love for football.”

Despite previously admitting in 2023 that retirement had crossed his mind due to the physical demands of the game, Kelce has made it clear that he remains motivated to continue competing at the highest level. His focus remains on winning as many championships as possible before stepping away from the game.

Kelce’s Evolving Role with Kansas City

Although Kelce finished the 2024 regular season with just three touchdown receptions, he remained a crucial part of Patrick Mahomes’ offense, leading the team with 97 receptions for 823 yards. Beyond his on-field contributions, he has also embraced a leadership position within the Chiefs‘ locker room.

“I feel like this year I kind of stepped into a role of being more of a voice for the guys,” Kelce said. “We had a lot of new faces, whether it was guys that we picked up in the offseason or guys we picked up throughout the season… just being able to be there for the young guys and help them understand the offense better and hopefully understand how to weather the storm.”

With Kansas City aiming to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls, Kelce‘s presence as both a playmaker and mentor remains invaluable.

Retirement Speculation and What Lies Ahead

There has been speculation that a Super Bowl victory could be the perfect moment for Kelce to step away from the game, particularly given the media attention surrounding his relationship with Taylor Swift. However, his recent statements suggest that retirement is not on the horizon.

At 35 years old, Kelce continues to play at an elite level and remains one of Mahomes‘ most reliable targets.

As the Chiefs prepare for their latest championship test, Kelce‘s focus is on securing another title-not on the end of his career.

His impact on the team, both on and off the field, ensures that he will remain a central figure in Kansas City’s pursuit of further success.

The story of Patrick Mahomes: “Don't play football, there's no future in it”

Patrick Mahomes will try to expand his legend even further on Sunday. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback will have the chance to lift his third consecutive Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl LIX (the fourth in his career).

The Texas native has three Super Bowl MVPs and two NFL MVPs. There is no doubt that, during his eight seasons in the league, he has become an increasingly important player, to the point of being the best in recent years. Many experts even debate whether or not he is the best player of all time.

NFL Honors Date Night! Bill Belichick and his 24 year old girlfriend stole the show

But everything Patrick Mahomes is today and the legacy he will leave in the future could have been very different. The Texas quarterback was close to playing baseball instead of football, just like his father did.

Super Bowl special: Everything you need to know about Eagles vs Chiefs

    He was drafted by MLB

During his time at Whitehouse High School, Mahomes played on the basketball, football and baseball teams. Despite juggling all three sports, it seemed that he was going to opt for the latter, especially because of the influence of his father. At that time, his father was playing as a reliever for the Minnesota Twins, one of the great MLB teams.

This meant that his son regularly had the opportunity to be in MLB locker rooms and meet some of the league’s most important figures. “He grew up in the locker room, he was always around the game and he was the best player on his baseball team. I always thought he was going to be a baseball player,” Patrick Mahomes Sr. told the Los Angeles Times in 2023.

In fact, his level was so high that he was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 37th round of the 2014 MLB draft. However, Mahomes had already committed to Texas Tech University, so he turned down the contract with the Detroit team.

    Mahomes followed his instincts

In college, he combined baseball and football during his freshman year. In the second season, he decided to focus fully on the pigskin, despite defining himself as “a baseball player at heart.”

The Chiefs quarterback ignored the advice of MLB greats such as former New York Yankees player Alex Rodriguez: “I said to him, ‘Now listen to me, there’s no money, there’s no future, there’s no history in football. You have to play baseball!’ Well, he reminded me of that recently and what a joy it is that he didn’t listen to me!”

We will never know how far Mahomes’ career as a baseball player would have gone. But what is certain is that he did not make a bad choice. Time and history have shown that.

Antonio Brown mocks Tyreek Hill for asking to leave Chiefs: He's got CTE

Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown remains one of the most polarizing figures in NFL history. Known for his on-field brilliance and off-field unpredictability, Brown has constantly found ways to stay in the spotlight-even after his dramatic exit from the league.

Despite his Hall of Fame-worthy career, Brown‘s erratic behavior has led many to question whether chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a condition linked to repeated head trauma in football, has played a role in his actions.

Crazy and unreal! Terrell Owens states that the NFL is rigged in favor of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs

Brown himself has leaned into the conversation, launching “CTESPN,” a sports entertainment brand that combines CTE awareness, merchandise, and humor.

Brown ranks his “Top CTE guys” in the NFL

Appearing on the podcast One Night with Steiny, Brown was asked to name the NFL players he believes exhibit CTE-like behavior. In his usual unfiltered style, he named Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill as his top pick.

“No. 1 has gotta be Cheetah,” Brown said, referring to Hill‘s nickname. “Tyreek Hill could’ve won four Super Bowls, but he had 10 kids in Miami and made no playoffs. That’s gotta be trauma.”

Brown then turned his focus to New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, ranking him No. 2.

“I think Aaron Rodgers got a little CTE. He’s a good player, but anytime you got trauma that’s outside the game, that’s just something you’re dealing with,” Brown explained.

He further elaborated that a quarterback’s mindset needs to be positive, implying that Rodgers may be affected by external stressors.

“I feel like you gotta play football with a good spirit, a happy energy, because you’re creating your reality… You gotta have blinders where you have happy energy that you want to put and see your goals.”

While Brown‘s comments keep him in the headlines, his football resume is undeniable. He is eligible for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2027, and his numbers certainly support his case.

Andy Reid considered a major reason Steve Spagnuolo can't get head coaching gig

When it comes to pictures of success in the NFL, the focus is almost always on the players. After all, they are the ones who make the plays that win games on the gridiron. But the coaches behind the scenes and schemes deserve plenty of credit, too.

When it comes to the Kansas City Chiefs, there’s been no shortage of praise for Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Chris Jones. Head coach Andy Reid has also gotten his due credit. And given the Chiefs’ defensive prowess over the past two seasons, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has started to become an unsung hero in the franchise.

Andy Reid’s mustache steals the show in Super Bowl Ad

Naturally, Spagnuolo’s name has come up in the head coaching cycle around the NFL. He took part in some interviews this offseason, but it hasn’t led to a job. Given a new report from Underdog’s James Palmer, we now know why.

“Some believe it’s due to the Rams experience he had when he was the head coach from ’09 to 2011. He went 10-38 and that experience, some people believe, still haunts him to this day.”

Is Steve Spagnuolo angling for Andy Reid’s job?

That certainly appears to be the main reason, but Palmer also reveals something interesting about Spagnuolo’s thought process. Many believe he’s simply waiting for Reid to step aside from his current position.

“There are some around the league that believe that Spagnuolo’s just waiting for Andy Reid to retire and slide into that job.”

It would certainly be an easy transition for both Spagnuolo and the franchise, but it doesn’t appear as if that will happen anytime soon. Reid was asked this week whether he will be back for next season, and he responded with a resounding yes, while explaining he just loves being around the game of football.

Kansas City Chiefs executive chef Erin Wishon was particularly struck by the pop superstar’s kindness during her visits to support boyfriend Travis Kelce at his NFL games. Speaking with US Weekly, Wishon shared her surprise at Swift’s thoughtful gestures: “I was just really taken aback at how kind and authentic she is. I mean, you don’t have to greet the food people, you know?

Swift, who has been publicly dating Kelce for the past 18 months, first attended a game at Arrowhead Stadium in September 2023. Since then, she’s been a regular presence in the stands, cheering on the Chiefs as they chase NFL history. Speaking at Super Bowl Opening Night in New Orleans, Mahomes reflected on the emotional impact of the trade. “It’s tough, you know, because I’ve watched [Doncic] since he was 18 years old,” Mahomes said. “I remember going to a practice, and it was Dirk [Nowitzki] and Luka. Seeing his maturation and how great of a basketball player he has become, it’s been fun to watch.”

Mahomes didn’t hide his disappointment but also expressed support for Doncic’s next chapter in Los Angeles. “As a Dallas fan, it hurts me. But I’m happy for him that he’s going to be able to go out there, be in LA, and try to achieve his dream of winning a championship. He did so much, not only for the basketball team but for the city of Dallas. I’ll always be appreciative of those years.”

Still, the Chiefs quarterback remains optimistic about the Mavericks‘ future, adding, “I’m excited for the Mavericks moving forward and the guys they brought in.”
