    Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is eyeing the chance to break his own record by drafting 14-year-old sensation Max Dowman to training.

    The Gunners chief is the manager who handed the Premier League’s youngest-ever player his start and he now has another talented teen.

    Arteta made history when he subbed on Ethan Nwaneri in a 3-0 win over Brentford in September 2022 at 15 years and 181 days old.

    Two seasons later, Dowman is already around the first-team picture as well and doesn’t celebrate his 15th birthday until New Year’s Eve.

    The 14-year-old midfielder trained alongside Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard ahead of Arsenal‘s Carabao Cup clash with Crystal Palace.

    Dowman joined fellow academy graduates Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly in being put through his paces before the quarter-final.

    The highly-rated youngster, who was promoted at London Colney last month, was also seen being briefed on the pitch by Arteta.

    Even if Dowman is not included in the matchday squad at the Emirates, which is live on talkSPORT, he will still become the Premier League’s youngster player should he make any appearance before the end of the season.

    It would cap further history for the England starlet, who claimed the feat of Arsenal’s youngest to play at Under-21 level earlier this month.

    Aged 14 years and 336 days, Dowman came off the bench in the 1-1 draw in a Premier League 2 clash with Brighton.

    In September, he became the youngest player in UEFA Youth League history to get on the score sheet – doing so at the age of 14 years, eight months and 19 days against Atalanta.

    Despite his form, Arsenal are unable to sign Dowman on scholarship terms for another 16 months.

    According to Mail Sport, several Premier League clubs have already contacted Dowman’s father to register their interest.

    Arsenal want to prove to the player there is a pathway to the first team having lost Chido Obi-Martin to Manchester United this summer.

    The report adds that Arteta is said to be open to the idea of having Dowman on the bench before the end of the current campaign.

    Norwich coach Jack Wilshere had been keen to fastrack Dowman’s development during his tenure with Arsenal’s Under-18 squad.

    After watching Dowman notch four assists in a 5-2 win over Fulham in March, ex-England star Wilshere heaped praise on the midfielder.

    “There’s always a concern when fielding such a young player in these matches, but if you’re good enough, you’re old enough,” he said.

    “He can be more consistent, but he’s only 14 and hasn’t even started his GCSEs yet. We need to find a balance of letting him play and enjoy because of his age, but also trying to get as much work into him as we can.

    “Hopefully, we can fast-track him and when he goes over to the first team he’ll be more ready.”

    Arsenal’s cup tie against Crystal Palace forced women’s team into major change

    Arsenal’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Crystal Palace this week caused problematic implications for their women’s side.

    The Gunners host the Eagles on Wednesday night in a London derby, live on talkSPORT, as both teams look to reach the final four.

    Mikel Arteta‘s men and Oliver Glasner’s side will do battle in north London at the slightly earlier time of 7:30pm.

    But that’s not the only strange thing about this game, as the scheduling actually caused a fixture clash.

    Arsenal Women are preparing to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday too.

    And that game was originally planned to be held at the Emirates.

    But due to the Men’s team being handed a home cup fixture at the same time, the Women’s team had to change their stadium.

    They were then left in a difficult situation as their common home of Boreham Wood’s Meadow Park, didn’t meet UEFA regulations.

    After being forced to switch, Arsenal confirmed they were having to liaise with UEFA to try and find a solution.

    Fortunately, last month, the Gunners were able to reach an agreement that would allow them to play at Meadow Park.

    A statement read: “We can confirm that our UEFA Women’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich will take place at one of our familiar home venues for our women’s team, the Mangata Pay UK Stadium Meadow Park, Borehamwood on Wednesday, December 18.

    “This follows engagement with UEFA in recent days, who have granted special dispensation for the match to be played there, given the unique combination of factors that required a new venue following our men’s team’s home draw in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

    “We thank members of our supporter groups throughout this time who offered valuable feedback which was reflected in our dialogue with UEFA. We also thank UEFA for their collaboration to find a workable outcome.”

    Another problem had to be dealt with by the club too, as fans had already started to purchase tickets for the Women’s game at the Emirates.

    But they offered an exclusive period for those who already had tickets to buy a new one for the new venue.

    “Supporters who have already purchased a ticket will automatically receive a full refund and a 24-hour priority access window to purchase a new ticket for this fixture at Meadow Park,” the statement continued.

    “This window will open at 2pm on Tuesday, November 26, with tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis (subject to availability).

    “We would like to recognise these supporters and their commitment to following us on our Women’s UEFA Champions League campaign.

    “As a gesture of goodwill, we would like to offer a complimentary ticket for a future WSL match at Emirates Stadium this season, or a £20 retail voucher that can be redeemed at The Armoury or on Arsenal Direct.”

    Arsenal’s clash with Bayern is their final Group C clash and it will prove pivotal to their knockout round success.

    They have both already qualified, but a win for the Gunners would see them leapfrog Bayern and finish top.

    The two clubs met in their opening Champions League group stage fixture, which saw the Bavarian outfit run out easy 5-2 winners.

    It would have been a fixture fitting of a larger venue like the Emirates, but unfortunately, it wasn’t to be.

    As for Arsenal’s men’s team, they are looking to win the League Cup for the first time since 1993.

    Arteta has taken his side to the semi-finals just once since his appointment in December 2019.

    That came in the 2021/22 season when Liverpool emerged as 2-0 winners on aggregate following a goalless first leg at Anfield.

    Since their 1993 final victory over Sheffield Wednesday, Arsenal have made it to the final on three occasions.

    But they have lost each time, with the first being against Chelsea in 2007, then to Birmingham in 2011 before losing to Manchester City in 2018.

    A win against Crystal Palace would put them another step closer to ending that losing streak.

    Arsenal’s Carabao Cup tie will force women’s team into making major change

    Arsenal’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Crystal Palace has caused problematic implications to their Women’s side.

    It is the same date and venue that Arsenal Women have been scheduled to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

    That fixture has been pencilled in to start at 8pm, but they will now have to take on the German giants elsewhere.

    While the women’s team often play at Borehamwood’s Meadow Park, the ground does not meet UEFA’s stadium regulations, and is not an option to host the match.

    One likely option could be to change the date of the fixture.

    Though the same can’t be said for the men’s clash between Arsenal and Palace, with the latter playing on the Sunday prior.

    This would make any match with Arsenal on the Tuesday extremely difficult due to the 48-hour turnaround.

    Meanwhile under UEFA guidelines, visiting teams, like Bayern, conduct their pre-match press conference at the stadium of their opposition the day prior, and can train on the pitch should they desire.

    This therefore rules out any chance of Arsenal and Palace being able to move their clash to Tuesday,

    Arsenal’s midweek fixture with Palace was announced on Wednesday afternoon, with the club swiftly releasing an update on what it means for their women’s team.

    A statement from Arsenal read: “We are liaising with UEFA, and further details regarding our UEFA Women’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich will be announced in due course.”

    At the time of writing, tickets for the Women’s Champions League fixture are still available for purchase.

    Arsenal’s clash with Bayern will be their final Group C clash – and could prove pivotal in their quest to advance into the knockout round.

    Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points after a 4-1 win over Crystal Palace.

    Bukayo Saka was the hero as he scored twice and set up another to seal a commanding win for Mikel Arteta’s men.

    The Eagles had chances and scored a consolation through Jeffrey Schlupp, but Arsenal were clinical as Gabriel Martinelli and Granit Xhak also scored at the Emirates.

    All of the pressure is now on Man City, while Palace are vey much in a relegation battle.
