  • Arsenal receive huge West Ham boost as Moyes issues injury updates on Antonio, Scamacca

Arsenal receive huge West Ham boost as Moyes issues injury updates on Antonio, Scamacca

David Moyes has confirmed that strikers Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca are doubts for West Ham’s trip to Arsenal on Boxing Day.

The Irons headed into the World Cup break on the back of two straight league defeats as well as having exited the Carabao Cup to Blackburn.

Despite presiding over what has been West Ham’s worst start to a top-flight season since 1976, Moyes remains confident the squad have what it takes to turn things around as they prepare to travel to Premier League leaders Arsenal on Boxing Day.

“There is a lot of things we did (over the break). We have looked to see where we can improve and what we should be doing better. Obviously there is lots of room for improvement,” Moyes said.

“So we have tried to work towards it. The players have shown a brilliant attitude since coming back, but it is not like we have always not played well.

“We need to be a little more clinical, certainly when we are trying to score and be that bit more ruthless defensively when we need to be as well.”

Moyes told a press conference: “It has been beneficial as I think the players needed a break – we had played more games than anyone else.

“We didn’t go away, so we were training at Rush Green through the snow. We have had some friendly games and they have gone quite well for us.

“We want to find the momentum we had in the last couple of seasons and get back to the levels we were at before.”

Despite finding his position under the spotlight, Moyes – who took West Ham to successive sixth and seventh-placed finishes as well as the semi-finals of the Europa League – remains determined to stay focused on matters he can control.

“I have had great conversations with David Sullivan and as you get older, you don’t feel the pressure so much,” the Scot said.

“We have had two or three years of great times and sometimes you have dips and at times like that you need the board and everyone to stick together.”

Forwards Gianluca Scamacca (ankle) and Michail Antonio (calf) face late fitness tests ahead of the trip to the Emirates Stadium, but defender Kurt Zouma is set for a spell on the sidelines after having surgery on a knee problem.

“I’m not sure if they’re going to be available yet,” said Moyes.

“Gianluca’s got an ankle injury, Micks [Antonio] has got a bit of a calf strain, so we’re hoping that they’ve both got a chance. I think they’re both doubtful.

“I think all of the clubs in the Premier League, you will never know who is fit and available from who has returned yet from the World Cup.”

The absence of West Ham’s two main strikers could see Jarrod Bowen play through the middle against Arsenal.

Declan Rice, Lucas Paqueta, Alphonse Areola, Thilo Kehrer and Nayef Aguerd were all away at the World Cup.

Defender Aguerd missed both Morocco’s quarter-final victory over Portugal as well as the subsequent final loss to France, and continues to be assessed.

“Nayef had a virus and an injury as well, which didn’t help him,” Moyes said. “He is not back in yet, but will back in tomorrow and we will see how he is.

“He is a really good footballer so hopefully he will improve us in the second half of the season.”

  • Arsenal: Arteta says ‘several players’ held back Gunners ‘project’ after Aubameyang question

Arsenal: Arteta says ‘several players’ held back Gunners ‘project’ after Aubameyang question

Mikel Arteta refused to single out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang when saying that “several players” were holding back the progression of Arsenal.

The Gabonese striker left the Gunners in controversial circumstances last winter.

A disciplinary breach in December 2021 appeared to be the last straw for Arteta, who ostracised Aubameyang before eventually deciding he had to leave.

Much has been said about the Spanish manager’s decision, with many criticising him for offloading the experienced striker without signing a replacement, which might well have cost Arsenal a top-four finish in the Premier League in 2021-22.

Footage showing Aubameyang taking a swipe at Arteta surfaced in October, proving that he was unhappy with his treatment at the Emirates.

He was seen saying the former Manchester City assistant struggles to deal with “big characters and big players” and “needs some young players who don’t say anything” because “they listen”.

While we saw some of the behind-the-scenes stuff during Arsenal’s All or Nothing documentary, Arteta has once again discussed the situation in a revealing interview with Jamie Carragher for Sky Sports.

Contrary to some reports, Arteta insists the decision to offload Aubameyang was made “as a club”.

The Spaniard spoke a lot about his process in north London, and believes getting rid of “several players” – not just Aubameyang – was crucial in speeding it up.

“First of all I didn’t take that decision, we took that decision as a club,” Arteta told Carragher.

“Obviously there is my recommendation and what I feel that we need to do to get where we want.

“But I wouldn’t like to single out one player. I think it was with several players.

“It was part of the strategy of what we’re trying to build.

“At the end of the day, when you are in that process and you want to go faster there are people holding that boat [back] and putting weight on it.

“I’m sorry but we want to go even faster and there’s no time, whether it’s a player or a staff member, for someone damaging the club and we made that decision.”

Arteta claimed that Arsenal are ahead of schedule in their process under him. He was appointed in December 2019 and won the FA Cup in his debut season, though he has gone through plenty of difficult spells since then.

The former Gunners captain explained his five-phase plan, saying: “The important ones are my wife and my family because that’s when you really open up, open your feelings, and say exactly the way you are feeling.

“Then the coaching staff, I think they are critical, you can really sense what is happening, how they are feeling, how they can help you.

“The third one is to have a club behind you that is understanding what the situation is and what it’s going take to move from where we are here to there.

“The good thing is I had a really clear plan, I put a plan of five different phases for the club – where we are compared with the rest of the teams.

“The timeline and everything we have to hit in every phase.”

Asked if Arsenal are ahead or behind in his project, Arteta grinned and replied: “We are ahead.”

  • Newcastle ‘toe-to-toe’ with Arsenal for £50m ‘box-office signing’ in January after ‘green light’ is given

Newcastle ‘toe-to-toe’ with Arsenal for £50m ‘box-office signing’ in January after ‘green light’ is given

Newcastle United are reportedly ready to go ‘toe-to-toe’ with Arsenal for the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk with a battle expected in January.

The winger has made a name for himself this season. After initially being linked with the Premier League in the summer, it is looking possible that he will get a transfer in January.

Mudryk has shone for Shakhtar Donetsk in recent months and his performances in the Champions League caught the eye.

The 21-year-old is being targeted by Arsenal ahead of January with him being their main target on the flanks.

The Gunners are expected to be busy in January as the club’s hierarchy are looking to give Mikel Arteta’s team a better chance to sustain their push for the Premier League title.

But Newcastle have also enjoyed a great start to the new campaign as they sit third in the table.

Ex-Premier League boss Neil Warnock thinks the Magpies could finish in the top four and Football Insider are reporting that their owners have ‘given the green light to spend in January and at least one box-office signing is possible’.

As part of this, they have ‘made a move’ for Mudyrk and they are ‘prepared’ to fight Arsenal for his services.

Newcastle have ‘made contact’ with Shakhtar to ‘register their interest’.

The report suggests that Mudryk ‘would likely cost £50m-plus’ in January with his contract not up until 2026.

Shakhtar have publicly stated that they want £87m for Mudryk but privately it is suggested that they would entertain bids far less than that.

Newcastle may suffer disappointment in the race for Mudryk though as the player has openly stated that he wants to sign for Arsenal.

“Shakhtar for me is my home,” Mudryk told Ben Jacobs. “All my thoughts are only about Shakhtar.

    “In winter we [will] see.

“I think every guy dreams about [playing in the] Premier League.

“Arsenal is a very good team. Very good coach. I like the way they play.

“From my side, I can’t say no [to Arsenal], but a transfer is not only my decision.”

They spent around £120m in the summer to bring in the likes of Alexander Isak, Sven Botman and Nick Pope.

Newcastle have also been linked with Napoli attacker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in recent weeks.

It only cost the Serie A outfit around £10m to sign the winger in the summer and he has been a sensation this season.

The Magpies have been linked with a £50m move for him but Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has told the Premier League club that they have “no chance” of signing him.

“Newcastle interest in Khvicha? There is no chance that we’ll let him go, despite the amount of the offer.”

  • Brighton CEO eyeing contract extension for World Cup winner Mac Allister

Brighton CEO eyeing contract extension for World Cup winner Mac Allister

Brighton CEO Paul Barber has announced that the club are in talks with Alexis Mac Allister regarding a new deal, in order to fend off growing interest in the midfielder.

The 23-year-old was instrumental in Argentina’s historic World Cup campaign, which saw his country lift the Jules Remet for the first time since 1986.

Since, the midfielder has reportedly been looked at by a host of big European clubs, but the Seagulls are desperate to keep their man.

Mac Allister made six stellar performances for the Argentines in Qatar, adding to his already impressive reputation.

He scored one goal in Argentina’s 2-0 win against Croatia in the group stages, but most significantly, provided a fantastic assist for Angel Di Maria’s crucial strike in the final yesterday, forever writing himself into his country’s history books.

Generally, though, Mac Allister has been an excellent player for Brighton.

Since joining the Seagulls on an £8m deal in 2019, he has been on two loan spells back to his home country, before cementing himself in the Brighton team in the 2020/21 campaign.

Overall, Mac Allister has scored 13 goals in 86 appearances across all competitions for the South coast club, also contributing six assists.

This season has been his best so far, though, already scoring five goals in 15 league appearances.

A versatile player, Mac Allister has the ability to play as a defensive, central or attacking midfielder, with his stats impressive in terms of defence, attack and playmaking.

The Argentine has made the third-most interceptions in the Premier League this season and is in the top 10 for the most successful tackles in the division, too. He has also scored the joint-most penalties of any player, with three.

It’s clear to see why Barber is keen to keep hold of his star man.

Speaking to TalkSport, he said: “We were working on a new contract for Alexis in the build-up to the World Cup.

“We felt that Alexis has been performing really well all season, he performed well last season.

“He’s been growing into the Premier League ever since he joined us and we were not at all surprised that he was able to make a contribution at that level.

“As we’ve always said, when players do well, when their profile increases, there’s always going to be interest in them,” he added.

“Alexis is no different, there was interest in him before the World Cup and I’m sure there will be more interest in him afterwards.

“All we can do in situations where you’ve got a great asset is to try and protect yourself as best as possible.

“We hope Alexis will continue to be playing for us for some time to come.”

Indeed, as reported by TEAMtalk, Spurs are ready to tussle with Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and Juventus to sign Mac Allister in January.

However, it’s thought that the player’s preference is to remain in England, where he can demand a greater salary.

Whether Mac Allister opts to stay at Brighton or to head for a club playing European football, it’s likely he will be getting a considerable pay rise, which is well-deserved after having such a stunning World Cup.

  • Gabriel Jesus ‘crumble’ talk ‘disrespectful to Arteta’ and his ‘fox in the box’ at Arsenal

Gabriel Jesus ‘crumble’ talk ‘disrespectful to Arteta’ and his ‘fox in the box’ at Arsenal

Danny Murphy believes talk of Gabriel Jesus’ injury ending Arsenal’s title hopes is “direspectful to Arteta” and his “fox in the box”.

Jesus is set to miss several months after injuring his knee on international duty for Brazil at the World Cup.

The summer signing from Manchester City has been a key cog for the Gunners this season as they sit five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

And many believe his absence could see Mikel Arteta’s side fall off the pace in the race for the title.

But Murphy doesn’t reckon Jesus is as vital to Arsenal’s chances as some, and claims it’s “disrespectful” to suggest they will suffer so much without him.

“A lot has been made of the knee injury Gabriel Jesus suffered with Brazil, that might keep him out for a month, but I don’t think the Gunners will crumble, as some suggest,” he told the Daily Mail.

“Jesus has been important in Arsenal’s great run: he’s unselfish; works hard off the ball and sets the tone for the press. But he hasn’t scored in his last 11 games. So I don’t think Arsenal should be fearful of playing without him.

“Eddie Nketiah is a fox in the box and can finish. Arsenal’s next three games against West Ham, Brighton and Newcastle are all winnable without Jesus.

“It’s disrespectful to Arteta, as well as stars such as Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and the other Arsenal players, to suggest one injury setback will make it a stroll.”

Asked whether the club will look to sign a striker in January as a result of Jesus’ injury, Arteta responded: “Where it affects us is who we are as a team, because he gives us so much.

“So what we can do after that, when we know a little bit the timescale and when we can have him back, we will look at the options, and try to make the right decision.”

Jesus has scored five goals and assisted five in the Premier League to help move the Gunners top of the table.

Questioned if his squad is strong enough to win the Premier League with Jesus injured, the Spaniard replied: “We have players, we have a lot of accompanying players.

“It’s do we have the players that can give us the performances and the consistency we need to be and maintain and improve from where we are?”

  • Villa plot ‘unrealistic’ Joao Felix move as Arsenal, Man Utd speak to agent over €140m transfer

Villa plot ‘unrealistic’ Joao Felix move as Arsenal, Man Utd speak to agent over €140m transfer

Joao Felix’s relationship with Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is ‘broken’ and the player’s agent is speaking to many clubs over a move in 2023, according to reports in Spain.

The Portugal forward is currently in Qatar for the World Cup.

He was on top form as his side dismantled Switzerland on Tuesday night, winning 6-1 to advance to the quarter-finals of the tournament, where they will face Morocco.

Felix has one goal and two assists in three appearances for Portugal in Qatar.

While the showpiece tournament goes on, there are many rumours circulating about the 23-year-old’s Atletico Madrid future.

Remarkably, Aston Villa have reportedly thrown their hat in the ring, despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Manchester United, and more.

This is according to Birmingham Live correspondent Ashley Preece.

Villa’s relationship with Felix’s agent Jorge Mendes is ‘growing stronger’ and the Midlands club ‘have been informed’ of the player’s situation in Madrid.

Preece admits it ‘feels totally unrealistic’, but I suppose stranger things have happened in football.

Spanish outlet Marca reckon Villa are ‘very well positioned’ to sign the former Benfica teenager.

Negotiations are already underway with Felix’s relationship with Simeone apparently ‘bad’.

Atletico chief executive Gil Marin recently discussed the player’s future, insisting a sale is possible.

“Signing him was the biggest bet the club has made in its history,” Marin told TVE.

“I think he is a top, world-class player, but because of the relationship with the coach, his playing time, his motivation… it’d be reasonable to analyse an option for him to depart if one arrives.

“It’s reasonable to think that he might leave, although I’d love him to stay. But, that’s not the player’s plan.”

Meanwhile, Relevo journalist Matte Moretto has claimed that Felix’s agent Mendes has already ‘spoken’ to Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich.

Arsenal and Manchester United could look to sign Felix in the winter transfer window.

The Red Devils released Cristiano Ronaldo last month, so are in the market for a new forward.

Arsenal, on the other hand, now have to deal with Gabriel Jesus’ absence after the Brazilian striker underwent knee surgery this week.

Both Premier League clubs have been linked with PSV and Netherlands attacker Cody Gakpo and are expected to be busy in January.

Moretto notes that PSG were the first club to make contact over a move.

Felix wants to join a ‘top club’, and given the sides believed to be in for him, it is difficult to imagine him joining Aston Villa, with all due respect.

His relationship with Simeone is ‘broken’, and Atletico are said to be asking for a monstrous amount of money – €130-140million to be more precise.

The Spanish club paid €127.2m to sign the Portuguese from Benfica in 2019.

His goal record leaves a lot to be desired, but he is playing in a negative side which prioritises defence over attack.

In 129 matches for Atletico, Felix has found the back of the net 33 times.

Discussing his future this week, Felix says his focus is on the World Cup with Portugal, but noted that his international team’s style of play is more “favourable” than Atletico’s.

“I’m completely focused on the World Cup,” he said on Tuesday.

“My agent doesn’t tell me anything about what’s going to happen, nor does he want to. I need to be focused on the now to play a great tournament.”

Felix added: “The way of playing with Portugal and then at the club is different. When the conditions are favourable, things go better.”

  • Arsenal dealt major blow as Gabriel Jesus requires operation and could be out for ‘months’

Arsenal dealt major blow as Gabriel Jesus requires operation and could be out for ‘months’

According to reports, Arsenal and Brazil attacker Gabriel Jesus requires an operation to repair his injured knee and he could be unavailable for ‘months’.

The forward joined the Gunners in the summer from their Premier League rivals Manchester City. Around £45m was spent to bring him to the Emirates.

Jesus was enduring a goal drought in the weeks leading up to the World Cup but he still played a vital role in Arsenal’s superb start to the 2022/23 campaign.

His hold-up play and ability to bring his teammates into the game has helped Arsenal get the best out of the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

Jesus’ form for Arsenal led to him being included in Tite’s 26-man Brazil squad for the World Cup.

Tottenham’s Richarlison played ahead of him in their opening two games but Jesus was handed a start in their Group G finale against Cameroon, with Brazil already through to the knockout stages.

The Arsenal man only lasted 64 minutes before being subbed off. It was suspected right away that he had picked up an injury.

It was later confirmed that he has injured his knee and that this will keep him out of the rest of the World Cup in Qatar.

Brazil head coach Tite has hit out at journalists for suggesting that he played Jesus despite him having a knee issue.

“Thank you very much for your question because I don’t like hearing lies out there, evil lies. Those are the people who want to do bad things for others.

“At no time whatsoever do we play for victory at the risk or peril of a player.

“So the liar who is out there, because that is what we call them, that’s the name? The haters who keep giving hate, go and do something else and stop giving fake news.

“Arsenal has a great medical department, we have a great medical department and we are responsible. We are personally responsible and ethical and it would never have happened. I didn’t want this to happen. It is a shame.”

The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath has now revealed that Jesus has ‘suffered suspected medial ligament damage’.

The striker ‘will need an operation to repair the problem’ so he is ‘set for a spell on the sidelines’.

It is noted that Jesus’ time on the sidelines is dependent ‘on how he heals’. But players who have suffered this injury in the past have taken ‘months to return to action’.

It has already been reported that Arsenal will not look to sign a replacement for Jesus in January. Instead, they are likely to rely on Eddie Nketiah and Martinelli to step up in his absence.

  • Every Premier League club’s plan for World Cup break – training camps, trips and friendlies

Every Premier League club’s plan for World Cup break – training camps, trips and friendlies

Dubai is a popular destination for Premier League clubs during the World Cup, while others opt for Abu Dhabi or Spain. One club is squeezing in two trips; two are staying at home.

Here’s how every Premier League club is spending their World Cup break…

    Arsenal
Mikel Arteta has given his Premier League leaders between 10 and 14 days off before reconvening ahead of a behind-closed-doors friendly with next-door-neighbours Watford on November 28. Arsenal then head to Dubai for warm-weather training and friendlies against Lyon (December 8) and AC Milan (December 13). Arsenal are also reported to be in talks with Barcelona over a possible friendly at the Emirates before Christmas.
First game back: West Ham (H), Boxing Day.

    Aston Villa
Unai Emery discussed his plans for the World Cup break in his first interview as Villa boss: “The break will help us. After 10 days we are going to be off, we are going to start again, we will have training days to improve and create identity and our style.” Villa then face Cardiff in a memorial match for Peter Whittingham on November 30 before flying to Dubai, where they will take on Brighton in a friendly. Emery has also scheduled a friendly against his former side, Villarreal, for December 15 at Villa Park.
First game back: Liverpool (H), Boxing Day

    Bournemouth
The Cherries squad was given a fortnight off after Saturday’s win over Everton. Upon returning to training, they will fly to Dubai on November 30 before taking on Royal Antwerp on December 4. Bournemouth are also planning a couple of friendlies when they return to England, though they are probably prioritising the appointment of a manager.
First game back: Newcastle (A, Carabao Cup), December 20.

    Brentford
Thomas Frank explained the Bees’ plans: “First there is a couple of weeks off for everyone. Then the rest of the players and the staff come back in. We move to our new training ground in that period which is nice. Then we are going away for a week to Spain and we are playing friendlies.” No word yet on who they will face in Spain.
First game back: Tottenham (H), Boxing Day

    Brighton
The Seagulls will fly to Dubai after a fortnight off in the wake of their defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday. Once in Dubai, they will have a chance for revenge – of sorts – when they take on the Villans in a friendly.
First game back: Charlton (A, Carabao Cup), December 20

    Chelsea
“We’ll have a few days break,” Graham Potter said last Friday. “There are only about three or four players left. Then we will reconvene, a bit of training and off to a warm-weather camp and couple of games to prepare for the restart.” The Blues will be heading to UAE, but that’s all we know at this stage.
First game back: Bournemouth (H), December 27

    Crystal Palace
Patrick Vieira has give Palace players a fortnight off before ‘a mini pre-season’, part of which will be spent in Turkey where the Eagles will face Napoli. Palace will also host Botofogo at Selhurst Park on December 3 and they are looking to arrange a game against Real Valladolid. On the trip to Turkey, Vieira said: “It will be really important. That’s why we will bring everyone, even the injured players. It’s important to spend time together and go even more into the tactical details to improve ourselves as a team.”
First game back: Fulham (H), Boxing Day

    Everton
There is no immediate break for the Toffees after their two Bournemouth beatings, with Frank Lampard taking his men to Australia to play in the inaugural Sydney Super Cup. They will face Celtic on November 20 and, three days later, Western Sydney Wanderers. Lampard will then give his players some time off before returning for some as-yet-unscheduled friendlies.
First game back: Wolves (H), Boxing Day

Read more: Everton and Frank Lampard slip back into a familiarly tetchy place for the winter break

    Fulham
Marco Silva has given his players a fortnight off before they gather to travel to Portugal for a week-long training camp. A week before they recommence the Premier League season, the Cottagers will host West Ham on December 17.
First game back: Crystal Palace (A) Boxing Day

    Leeds
Jesse Marsch has issued some strict instructions to his players: “They will all have a week off then we give them a physical programme for another week to do on their own. So they will have two weeks off but the first week they do absolutely nothing.” Nice. The squad will report to Thorp Arch on November 28 and though there was talk of heading to California, Leeds will stay in Europe, possibly heading to Spain. They will also host Spanish opposition, Real Sociedad, at Elland Road on December 16.
First game back: Man City (H), December 28

    Leicester
The Foxes have earned themselves a fortnight off with their recent form. Upon returning to work, the players not involved in the World Cup will head to Abu Dhabi for some winter sunshine. The plan is then to play friendlies at the training ground. “It’s a strange one,” said Brendan Rodgers. “There’ll be a period of rest at the beginning but then we’ve got to get to work, and we’ve got to build our way through into a good place physically, mentally and tactically, ready for the first game. For that, it will mean hard training and hard work, but also getting minutes under the belt in organised games. We’ll have some games confirmed over the coming days to play.”
First game back: MK Dons (A, Carabao Cup), December 20

    Liverpool
After a fortnight off and a week back at Melwood, Jurgen Klopp will take his remaining players to Dubai on December 4. Once there, like Arsenal they’ll take on Lyon (December 11) and AC Milan (December 16). Assistant manager Pep Lijnders explained the choice of Dubai: “It’s close to Qatar so players can come quickly back, so they can prepare quick with the team again, and it gives us real time to prepare for the second sprint of the season.”
First game back: Man City (A, Carabao Cup), December 22

    Manchester City
Pep Guardiola is the manager most affected by World Cup call-ups and he has given the players left in Manchester some time off until November 28. Then City will head to Abu Dhabi for a week-long training camp on December 5. Will Guardiola head to Qatar to watch any of his players? “The best way to enjoy the matches is at home with red wine,” he said. While he’s got his feet up, reports suggest Guardiola might be contemplating his future.
First game back: Liverpool (H, Carabao Cup), December 22

    Manchester United
Aside from searching for whatever channel Piers Morgan is spouting off on these days, United players are still training while most other squads are resting. “We will train here at Carrington for one week, or eight or nine days, and then we will have a short break,” said Erik ten Hag last week. “Then we will train and go to Spain for a training camp for one week.” In Andalucia, United will face Cadiz on December 7 and Real Betis on December 10.
First game back: Burnley (H, Carabao Cup), December 21

    Newcastle
Like Leeds, Newcastle players have been given the first week off before they embark upon personal training schedules prior to returning to the training ground. On December 4, Eddie Howe will take his men to Saudi Arabia for a week, during which time they will take on Al-Hilal in a friendly on December 8. Upon returning to Tyneside, Newcastle will welcome Rayo Vallecano to St James’ Park on December 17. They are also expected to squeeze in another friendly, possibly against Championship opposition.
First game back: Bournemouth (H, Carabao Cup), December 20

    Nottingham Forest
“We do have a plan for the break, in terms of scheduling, training content and games, which we will announce soon,” said Steve Cooper recently. “It’s taken a little bit of finalising.” And Forest are certainly squeezing a lot into the break. They will travel to Greece and Spain, with friendlies confirmed against Olympiacos (December 10) and Valencia (December 16).
First game back: Blackburn (A, Carabao Cup), December 20

    Southampton
Saints were due to head to Miami before they sacked Ralph Hasenhuttl. His replacement, Nathan Jones, did not confirm if they were sticking to that itinerary but the new boss has a great opportunity to get his message across with just Mohammed Salisu and Armel Bella-Kotchap heading to the World Cup. “We’re pretty much set on what we want to do,” he said after the Liverpool defeat. “First, I’m going to sleep. I’ve had a month with literally no sleep so I’m going to do that first, and spend some time with my family. We will be back in next week and will plan everything, leaving us just over four weeks to work with the group before the Brighton game. We’ve got games arranged and a trip away.”
First game back: Lincoln (H, Carabao Cup), December 20

    Tottenham
Antonio Conte wanted to take his Spurs players, those that are left, away during the break but the club have decided against it. “Before, our idea was to try to find a solution to go away from London and to stay in a place with sun, but in the end it was difficult to find this type of solution. For this reason we continue to stay here, having training sessions and using our training ground.” Spurs are planning to arrange friendlies, perhaps as many as three, but no details have yet been confirmed.
First game back: Brentford (A), Boxing Day

    West Ham
The Hammers are also staying local after an extended break that allows the players time off until December 1. There is a friendly scheduled against Cambridge United on December 6 and West Ham will also travel to Fulham on December 17, just over a week before the Premier League recommences.
First game back: Arsenal (A), Boxing Day

    Wolves
Like Saints, Wolves will use the World Cup break to integrate a new manager, with Julen Lopetegui taking over from Steve Davis after the defeat to Arsenal on Saturday. The Spaniard, though, won’t see his players for 10 days after they were given a break. Upon their return, Wolves will spend a week in Marbella, with the intention of playing a friendly or two.
First game back: Gillingham (H, Carabao Cup), December 20
