    There were plenty of standout players in college football in 2024, but there were two in particular who essentially told the story of the season with incredible performances. Those two ended up in a tight race for the Heisman Trophy, with Travis Hunter edging out Ashton Jeanty.

    No one can blame voters for opting to give it to Hunter, a generational two-way star who did things never seen before at this level. But Jeanty’s fans couldn’t help but feel he did more than enough to win it, as he put together one of the best seasons by a running back in college football history. Given how much his starpower rose on the back of that season, Jeanty announced on Tuesday that he’s declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft.

    Where will he go, though? Most mock drafts make no mistake about where Jeanty will land in April: Almost everyone expects him to be drafted by the Dallas Cowboys.

    It’s a logical destination given the team doesn’t have a ton of talent or depth at the position, but Rico Dowdle was surprisingly solid in a workhorse role in 2024. Still, Jeanty is an incredible talent, while Dowdle may be best suited for a 1B to 1A role. But the Cowboys aren’t the only team that Jeanty has been mocked to.

    CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson has him landing with the Houston Texans (19th overall), where he would form a formidable duo with Joe Mixon. CBS’ Josh Edwards has him going to the Denver Broncos (20th overall), a team that desperately needs a reliable workhorse at the position.

    Jeanty’s talent and collegiate stats should make him a Top 10 pick in the draft, but with the running back position devalued in NFL circles over the past few years, a franchise should be able to get a blue-chip player later than usual.

    The Pac-12 Conference is alive as they announce new members that will once again shake up the nation

    The Pac-12 conference takes steps to revive and it appears like they are on their way back to the national stage. They’ve announced the incorporation of four new schools that will be joining the two remaining universities that stayed in the league after major realignment situations in the collegiate sports landscape recently.

    Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State and San Diego State, four Mountain West schools, will join the Pac-12 by the fall of 2026, bringing the conference to half a dozen teams. They could take over more MW teams, since their television contract ends in the summer of 2026 and it is believed that the reborn Pac-12 would be a more attractive scene with higher income than the TV networks currently pay.

    All this comes after big name schools left them only with Washington State and Oregon State, after Washington, Oregon, UCLA, USC, California, Stanford, Utah and Colorado, Arizona and Arizona State decided to join other conferences. The conference had 2 years to fix that to at least reach the minimum of eight school prior to the 2026 sports year and they are just two away from that.

    There is hope in being a big-name conference once again

    In football, Boise State is the most renowned program in recent years as they broke into the 2006 season, when they finished undefeated and faced Adrian Peterson’s Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, winning in overtime in one of the most memorable games in the history of college football. Ever since they’ve become a very solid program.

    San Diego State has been consistent within the Mountain West in the last 15 years and Colorado State and Fresno State have had some good years, however all four schools have been even better in basketball and the Aztecs have led the way by reaching a NCAA Tournament final against Uconn two years ago. The rest of the sports programs from every university will tag along.

    Now, the Mountain West is left with Air Force, UNLV, Nevada, Utah State, New Mexico, Wyoming, San Jose State and Hawaii as they now look or a better television deal among other endorsements. The movement has strong economic implications, since each of the four schools will have to pay $17 million to the Mountain West for getting out of their contract, and they will not receive these two years between 7 and 8 million that the conference distributes annually to its members, but the Pac-12 will help them pay the fees all in the interest of having a competitive conference once again, looking to add more schools soon.
