However, that may not be the case for a select uninjured few who receive a yellow card in this weekend’s Gameweek 17 fixtures.
Any player who accumulates five cautions inside the first 19 Premier League games of the season will be suspended for one match.
Seven stars will be available again for GW17 after serving that type of ban, including Alexis Mac Allister, Pedro Neto, Emerson, Yves Bissouma, Calvin Bassey, Boubakary Soumare, and Joao Gomes.
The next milestone that warrants a suspension is 10 yellow cards, so all of the players above won’t miss Boxing Day fitness permitting.
Similarly, Brazilians Andreas Pereira and Joelinton headline the absentees from the final pre-Christmas Premier League games.
The Fulham and Newcastle duo are ruled out this weekend for five bookings, alongside Crystal Palace‘s Daniel Munoz.
As it stands, 38 men remain one yellow away from also hitting that threshold, which would now sideline them for Boxing Day.
A heart-warming admission proved Bukayo Saka will never forget his footballing roots.
Saka has cemented himself as a homegrown hero at Arsenal, having made almost 250 appearances for the Gunners since his debut in 2018.

The 23-year-old has also represented England at two European Championships and the 2022 World Cup.
Safe to say, Saka has come a long way from when he began his football journey with Greenford Celtic in west London.
But no matter how far he travels across the globe and the staggering calibre of opponents he plays against, his hometown club will always hold a special place in his heart.
In a promotional video for American bank Chase, Saka caught up with Colin Nixon, who was the England international’s first coach.
As the pair caught up, Saka revealed he still has a Greenford Celtic shirt in his possession – and it’s in excellent company.
“In my house, I have some very special shirts, some big names,” Saka said.
“[Thierry] Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, also a shirt that’s up there is my Greenford Celtic shirt that I wore when I was playing under Colin.
“It’s where I started this whole journey. I’m here today because Colin was one of the people who gave me an opportunity to play football, and from there I got scouted.
“So it was an honour to link up with Colin again.”
Saka has played Ronaldo three times in his career, with all of their encounters taking place in the Premier League during CR7’s second spell with Manchester United.

Ronaldo scored twice in their first game against one another as United emerged 3-2 victors in the 2021/22 season.
Arsenal exacted their revenge by beating United 3-1 in the reverse fixture, with Saka scoring the Gunners’ second.
Ronaldo had to make do with a spot on the bench for the third game in which he faced off against Saka, although the Red Devils won 3-1.
As for Henry, Saka certainly has happier memories of his encounters with the Gunners icon.
Henry coached Saka during his days working in the club’s academy, but not even he could have foreseen the 23-year-old going on to enjoy the career he has to date.
Saka is already producing some special numbers this season
“He’s been there for so long and he’s so nice. I never thought he would reach the levels we are seeing.
“He’s a starter for Arsenal, he’s a starter for England. I remember when he started he was playing wing-back and the evolution of his game is outstanding because he used to be so lively, to now scoring goals and assists.”
Although Saka has cemented himself as one of Arsenal’s most vital stars, he has some way to go before he matches Henry’s feats.
Throughout his two stints with the Gunners, Henry registered 228 goals and 93 assists in 377 appearances across all competitions.
Henry also helped Arsenal to two Premier League titles and two FA Cup triumphs.
The French icon also finished second and third in the Ballon d’Or rankings in 2003 and 2006 respectively, highlighting his status in the global game.
Darren Bent calls Bukayo Saka world class as he praises the Arsenal star for his consistency
Arsenal need a win to keep up in the Premier League title race this afternoon as they welcome Everton to the Emirates.
The Gunners dropped points away at Fulham last weekend, allowing Chelsea to move above them and become Liverpool’s closest challenger.

Mikel Arteta saw a response from his side in midweek as they beat Monaco in the Champions League, and they will look to build on that.
Sean Dyche’s men won’t make it easy for their opponents though, as they return to action following a weekend off after the Merseyside derby was postponed.
Arsenal vs Everton: Corner specialists
It’s well known this season, that Arsenal love a corner goal.
They’ve scored from one in all of their last three Premier League games.
That incredible prowess from set pieces has seen them move up to 23 total goals from corners since the start of last campaign.
Of course, that’s more than any other team in the top-flight.
If the Gunners score from another one against Everton, it will be the first time ever that they have netted four such goals in consecutive games.
The last team to achieve that feat was Liverpool two years ago.
Arsenal’s corners are a work of art, and that comes down to set-piece coach Nicolas Jover, who has been so good at his job that he now has a mural outside the Emirates.
Jover will be planning some more unique tactics to challenge the Toffees and he’ll be hopeful of another goal to make some history.

After a run of four defeats in five Premier League games against Everton between 2020 and 2023 (W1), Arsenal have now won each of their last three against the Toffees.
Everton have won just one of their last 28 Premier League away games against Arsenal (D4 L23), picking up a 1-0 victory in April 2021.
Arsenal’s 102 wins against Everton is the most any side has beaten another in English top-flight history, while their 344 top-flight goals against the Toffees is also the most.

Who is Arsenal’s set-piece coach? Nicolas Jover named ‘most annoying bloke in football’ but has made Gunners ‘corner kings’
Since returning from injury on November 10, Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard has created the most chances of any player in the Premier League (17), with seven of those created for teammate Bukayo Saka, the most from one player to another in that time.
Everton’s only away Premier League win in 2024 came at promoted Ipswich Town in October (D6 L9), with their last three away wins coming at teams starting the day in 15th, 19th and 17th respectively. They’ve only won one of their last 39 away matches against teams starting the day in the top-three (D11 L27), winning at Leicester in December 2020.
Arsenal vs Everton: What has been said?
18-year-old Lewis-Skelly majorly impressed in the Champions League in midweek and Arteta sang his praises post-match.
Speaking after a 2-0 win over Monaco, Arteta said: “A word for Myles – 18-years-old and to make his debut in the Champions League is a great highlight of the game.
“What I like about him is his courage, the position he takes, how he penetrates with the ball.
“He’s one of our own, he has a bright future ahead of him. As a club and a manager we have to be happy with him coming through.
“It is a great feeling to be able to change someone’s life.”
Saka also spoke about Lewis-Skelly, revealing: “I just said to him ‘this is his level’, he needs to have no doubts, play the game and have confidence.
“We see what he’s doing in training. We are pleased for him and he played a key part in the first goal. He just needs to keep going. I’m just so proud of him.”

This is the first Premier League meeting between Arsenal and Everton kicking off at 3pm on a Saturday since December 2011, a 1-0 win for the Gunners at the Emirates courtesy of a Robin van Persie strike.
Everton have failed to score in each of their last three away Premier League matches, attempting 42 shots with an xG of 3.26 without success and are the only side without an away goal since the start of November. They last went four in a row without a goal across October/November 2022.
Arsenal vs Everton: talkSPORT coverage
This Premier League clash will take place on Saturday, December 14.
Kick-off at the Emirates is scheduled for 3pm.
talkSPORT 2 will have EXCLUSIVE live coverage of the game presented by Faye Carruthers.
Commentary will come from Ian Danter and former England striker Dean Ashton.
Antonee Robinson has missed just three Premier League matches across the past three seasons.
After a starring role in keeping Arsenal sensation Bukayo Saka quiet last weekend, he has cemented his status as one of the top full-backs in England.
1
Robinson kept Arsenal’s attacking threat quiet as Fulham earned a draw
It was a sentiment shared by Fulham manager Marco Silva following his side’s impressive 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Craven Cottage.
“He’s been great for us,” Silva said. “He’s one of the best left-backs in this league.
“It’s not just the way he is able to stop players, but the way he is able to help ourselves.
“In open play, last season he was the full-back in this league with (the) most assists and this season (he) is probably one of the full-backs with the most assists.

“He’s a top player and a great professional. He’s a proper athlete and is improving in some defensive positions we want him to improve.
“He’s improving season by season, and week by week you can see he is improving, and we are really proud to have him with us.”
After 15 rounds, Robinson leads all defenders in the Premier League with four assists this season after finishing fourth in the assist charts last time around.
But against Arsenal, it was Robinson’s defensive duties that truly marked the progress he’s made over the course of his career in England – particularly over the past 12 months.
Facing one of the Premier League’s elite wingers in Saka, Robinson didn’t just add to Fulham’s impressive attacking display but played a major role in holding the England international to one of his quieter games of the season.
Saka came into proceedings with five combined goals and assists in his previous three games but Robinson’s match-high six tackles and close attention to the winger kept him suitably at bay as Fulham continued a strong start to the season with a valuable point.
One moment in particular highlighted Robinson’s standout performance and his increased defensive capabilities as he presented a nightmarish proposition for Saka.
With seven minutes left in the first half, Saka received the ball on Arsenal’s right flank and immediately found Robinson at his back.
Saka twisted and turned but found no way past the American full-back who held him up, allowed his team to retreat, and eventually poked the ball out for a throw-in.
It was a moment that encompassed the diligent and determined performance that has become commonplace for Robinson and led to him taking over as Fulham captain in Tom Cairney’s absence.
It was also a moment that encompassed what Jonathan Wilson wrote about Robinson in the Guardian following the draw.
“Since Fulham’s return to the Premier League in 2022, the Milton Keynes-born USA international has been one of the most consistent left-backs in the division and yet is a weirdly undiscussed figure,” he explained.
“He played a vital role in restricting Arsenal’s threat. Where others have a tendency to stand off Bukayo Saka, Robinson engaged him aggressively and had the better of their duel.”
Meanwhile, Miguel Delaney of the Independent even felt that Robinson’s performance was the blueprint and standard-bearer for anyone coming up against Saka, writing: “Antonee Robinson has handled Saka about as well as anyone in world football – brilliant individual performance.”
As well as leading all defenders in assists this season, Robinson has also amassed the most combined tackles and interceptions to underline his growth as a complete full-back.
It doesn’t get any easier. After Saka, enter Mohamed Salah.
On Saturday, Fulham travel to Anfield to face arguably the league’s most potent threat in Salah. It’s another huge test for Robinson and there could be more than just three points on the table.
Robinson is looking to take over Andy Robertson’s place as the Premier League’s best left-back and with the Scotsman coming to the end of his Liverpool career, links between ‘Jedi’ and the Scouse club are only growing.
His energy and excellence at both ends of the pitch make him a natural replacement for Robertson and Fulham will likely face a massive battle to keep him at the club.
There was another worry for Arsenal moments after Calafiori was hauled off before the hour-mark.
Bukayo Saka, who scored a penalty against West Ham and assisted two other goals, went down in pain on the London Stadium turf.
However, despite a long pause for treatment and a brief spell off the pitch, he was able to continue playing.
Though he was later taken off with Raheem Sterling coming on in his place in the closing stages.
Arsenal were able to get through the rest of the match without anymore worries of their players’ fitness in what was a thumping win.
Gabriel headed in the opener with only ten minutes played, doing so from yet another set-piece that was crossed in by Saka.

Leandro Trossard doubled Arsenal’s lead before with less than half an hour on the clock – tapping home into an empty net after being picked out by Saka.
All three points were pretty much sealed moments later when Martin Odegaard scored from the penalty spot.
Kai Havertz continued the romp when he added the Gunners’ fourth, although hosts West Ham did their best to fight back.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s finish was followed by an excellent free-kick from Emerson Palmieri to ensure Arsenal only had a two-goal advantage.
However, the north London outfit scored their fifth and final goal shortly before half-time thanks to Saka’s penalty.
Victory has sent them second in the Premier League and six points behind Liverpool, who host Manchester City tomorrow.

Arsenal were fully deserving of their win over West Ham
Arsenal could drop down in the standings on Sunday though should Chelsea beat Aston Villa by more than three goals.
Arteta’s side will now turn their focus towards United’s visit at the Emirates on Wednesday as they continue to hunt down Liverpool.
Cucurella spoke to Sky Sports alongside goalscorer Neto after the match.
Discussing his battle with Saka, the 26-year-old explained: “I think he is a top player, we’ve played a lot of times in front of each other.
“Big respect, I think he’s a top player so I try to do my work. He wants to do his work so it’s a good battle and I hope to do more of this.”
He was then asked what the ‘secret’ is to stopping Saka, prompting Neto to quip: “Being Marc Cucurella.”
His joke left Cucurella grinning with Neto laughing at his own joke, before the Spaniard added: “I try not to give him space, I try to always be close to him.
“We know he’s a special talent so I try to do my work and help my team. I need to do my job in the pitch.
“I think today I tried to do my best and we got one point.”

Cucurella returned to the starting line-up on Sunday, replacing club captain Reece James.
The former Brighton man had appeared off the bench in Chelsea’s last two league matches.
He was handed his tenth start of the campaign across all competitions by Enzo Maresca against their London rivals.
Chelsea are third in the table following the draw with Pedro Neto’s strike from distance cancelling out Gabriel Martinelli’s opener.
The result means Chelsea remain above the Gunners on goal difference.
It is the first time they have been in the top three since the final day of the 2021/22 season.
Nuno Tavares has went from Arsenal flop to assist king following his loan switch to Lazio in the summer.
Deemed as surplus to requirements by Mikel Arteta at the Emirates, the left-back is more than making his mark in Serie A.
5
Tavares has enjoyed a stunning start to the season on loan at LazioCredit: Getty
It is the the third consecutive season that the 24-year-old has been shipped out on loan by the Gunners.
Tavares linked up with Arsenal from Benfica in an £8million deal in 2021, where he featured in 28 matches in all competitions in his opening campaign.
He initially wowed fans with his athleticism when deputising for the injured Kieran Tierney, but his performances soon began to drop.
The Portugal Under-21 international notably threw a strop after being hauled off in the first half of Arsenal’s FA Cup third round defeat at Nottingham Forest, where he angrily tossed his gloves on the floor, before blanking Arteta as he walked off the pitch.
Another poor performance in the 3-0 defeat at Crystal Palace in April led to Tavares again being taken off – this time at half-time.
And in footage from Arsenal’s Amazon ‘All or Nothing’ docuseries, Arteta was filmed screaming in his face in the dressing room at half-time.
With Arsenal chasing a top four spot and drawing 1-1 at the break, the Spaniard unleashed a heated X-rated rant, where he stood directly in front of Tavares, who failed to close down the cross which led to Jarrod Bowen’s equaliser.
Arteta yelled: “Do you want to play in the Champions League? Do you want to play in the f****** Champions League?”
The decision was then made to send the defender on loan to Marseille, with French media claiming Arteta and his staff had been left ‘annoyed with his behaviour’.
It was Tavares who had the last laugh at the time, as he featured in all six of Marseille’s outings in Europe’s premier competition, while Arsenal were forced to play in the Europa League.

Tavares struggled for consistency in the 2021/22 campaign
A loan at Forest followed with the player now at Lazio, where he has finally showcased the talent which saw Arsenal buy him having registered an impressive five league assists.
No other player in Serie A has more assists than the Arsenal loanee so far from the opening seven matches.
Only Gunners winger Bukayo Saka boasts more assists [seven] than Tavares in Europe’s top five leagues this term.
Alan Pardew insists Bukayo Saka’s DOMINANCE will deliver Arsenal the Premier League title over Manchester City
The full-back’s incredible start to the 2024/25 term sees him level with Harry Kane, Cole Palmer, Lamine Yamal, Joao Neves and Alex Baena with five assists.
Having been an unused substitutes in Lazio’s opening two Serie A matches, he has since become one of the club’s key players – starting the last five games to help the Stadio Olimpico outfit sit fourth in the table.
Lazio signed Tavares on loan with an obligation to turn his temporary stay into a permanent switch for around £5m-£6m should certain conditions yet.
And if he carries on his form, it will look to be a bargain for Marco Baroni’s side.
Having played for five different teams in as many years, Tavares has hinted he wishes to remain in the Italian capital – insisting he’s happier than ever.
He told O Jogo: “I feel more and more at home at Lazio. Fortunately, things are going well for me personally and collectively.
“I think we have risen to the challenge and can only think about improving. We still have a long way to go but, for now, the balance is very positive.”
Tavares added: “I feel good watching my team-mates. It’s good to have this understanding with them in this short space of time.
5
Tavares is only behind Saka in terms of most assists in Europe’s top-five leagues this season
“We can only improve. I’m very happy to be here.”
But despite Lazio’s gain in Tavares, it is not Arsenal’s loss, who have moved past having a flying full-back in the team.
For Tavares, he will be hoping to continue impressing in his quest to earn a Portugal call-up for the November international break as he awaits his first senior cap.
Bukayo Saka thought he was out there on his own for assists in consecutive Premier League games, only for it to be taken away.
He turned up when it really mattered with a key contribution to a decisive Arsenal goal as they left it late to beat Leicester 4-2.

Saka thought he’d assisted Trossard for Arsenal’s thirdCredit: Getty
In all of Arsenal’s previous Premier League games this term, the 23-year-old England star had made one assist.
Those came against Wolves, Aston Villa, Brighton, Tottenham, last weekend against Man City, and he thought he’d done it against Leicester..
Saka swung in a late corner from the right when the teams were locked at 2-2, with Leandro Trossard finding the net via a deflection.
At the time, Saka thought he’d made six straight assists and become the first Premier League player to do so in the first six games of the season.
However, that honour was retrospectively taken away from him as Trossard’s shot was diverted into goal by Wilfried Ndidi, and it’s gone down as an own goal by the Nigeria midfielder.
Arsenal had been leading 2-0 before the Foxes mounted a second-half comeback to draw level.
Trossard and Kai Havertz struck late at the Emirates Stadium to snatch all three points.
It’s no shame to just miss out on the accolade, some of the exceptional players who have graced the English top-flight haven’t managed it either.

Saka didn’t quite get the record, but he’s been electric so far this seasonCredit: Getty
Not even Manchester United hero Ryan Giggs – the Premier League’s leading assist maker (162) managed to do so.
Even Cristiano Ronaldo was unable to impress from the wing in his early Man United days.
Arsenal legend Robert Pires believes that Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku is a better player than Gunners star Bukayo Saka
Thierry Henry set the record of five in 2004/05 when the Gunners were on a rampant run.
At the tail end of their famous 49-game unbeaten run, Henry got assists in wins over Everton, Middlesbrough, Blackburn, Norwich, and Fulham.
However, he was unable to create a goal in a 2-2 draw at home against Bolton Wanderers, although he did score the opening strike of the game.
Saka created another goal for one of his teammates against Leicester, and he surpassed one of his idols.
3
Saka’s put in a good shift against Leicester
In 2020, he said: “He’s a hero to me for what he’s done for my club, what he’s done in football.
“I loved his personality, I loved the way he played, the goals he scored. He’s just an amazing person – he was amazing at football but he’s an amazing person too and that’s probably why he inspires me.”

John Stones’ 98th-minute equaliser salvaged a 2-2 draw for Manchester City against 10-man Arsenal in an ill-tempered clash between the two title heavyweights.
The visitors’ enormous task was made even harder when forward Leandro Trossard received a second yellow card deep in injury time at the end of the first half for kicking the ball away, similar to Declan Rice’s sending off against Brighton earlier in the year.
Despite this the Gunners were seconds away from inflicting City’s first home defeat since November 2022, with Stones’ poked finish following a penalty box scramble seconds from full time saving City’s blushes, and ensuring Pep Guardiola’s side maintained their place atop the Premier League table.

EPL Wrap: Ange’s Spurs bounce back | 02:28
An intense and emotional contest was expected and within seconds the signs of fight in both sides were evident when Kai Havertz charged into Rodri to leave the Spaniard needing treatment.
The game couldn’t have started any better for the hosts when Erling Haaland found the back of the net in the ninth minute following a dazzling run from Brazilian recruit Savinho.
Not only was the strike significant for lifting City into the lead, but it also marked the Norwegian’s 100th goal for the club in all competitions.
Prior to kick off, Arsenal’s centre back pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel had restricted Haaland to just one goal in 359 minutes of action, but were helpless to prevent him scoring in this clash.
Controversy soon followed Haaland’s strike when a quickly taken Arsenal free kick caught City captain Kyle Walker out of position and released winger Gabriel Martinelli down the left touchline.
Martinelli approached the box before laying a pass off to Italian recruit Riccardo Calafiori, who bent a wonderful strike beyond an outstretched Ederson to breathe life into Arsenal.
Furious City players surrounded the referee in protest, with footage showing Arsenal midfielders Rice and Thomas Partey moving the dead ball forward and away from the mark of the original foul.
However, the goal stood, much to Arsenal’s delight, providing the visitors with hope they could secure a crucial win in the grand scheme of their title tilt.
City were dealt a major blow moments before Calafiori’s strike when Rodri was substituted after appearing to injure himself attacking a corner at the near post, with Mateo Kovacic replacing the Spaniard in the 21st minute.
Post-game, Guardiola labelled the holding midfielder a “strong man,” and noted he wouldn’t leave the field unless it was necessary.
“If he leaves the pitch in this action, it is because he felt something, otherwise he would stay there.”
Arsenal’s Gabriel is one of the best set piece threats in the Premier League, evidence by his towering first half header against Manchester City.Source: Getty Images
A week after he was the deciding factor in the North London derby, Brazilian centre back Gabriel towered over everyone to nod home from a corner in the 46th minute, sending the away side into delirium.
Walker, who was responsible for some questionable defending in the lead up to Gabriel’s goal, was singled out by Guardiola post-game.
“He has to (do better) and didn’t,” City’s manager said.
Arsenal’s hopes of victory took a hit right on half time when Trossard received his marching orders for kicking the ball away after a City foul, resigning Arsenal to tackling this incredible City side with a man disadvantage.
Speaking post-game, Mikel Arteta said he expects “100 Premier League games to be 10 against 11 or nine vs 10 this season.”
And while the Spaniard was upset with the sending off, he was more than proud of his side’s resolve in the second to restrict City despite being a man down.
“Obviously, it is already a miracle we played 56 minutes at the Etihad with 10 men. It is unbelievable what we have done,” he said.
“We adapted in the best possible way, the way we compete – I’m so proud of them. It couldn’t be a more difficult situation and the way we handled it.”
Arteta made the bold call to remove captain Bukayo Saka from the contest, replacing the winger with fullback Ben White in a bid to make his side more compact and harder to break down.
That decision proved rather effective for much of the second half, with 16 of City’s shots in the second half coming from outside the box, with goalkeeper David Raya twice denying sharp efforts from Joski Gvardiol to preserve his side’s lead.
However, it was another City defender who finally found the back of the net, with Stones nodding home at the death to steal a point from the visitors.
When all’s said and done this season, the Englishman’s goal could prove the deciding factor in this year’s title race, and would be the second time in recent years Stones has played a key part in a Premier League title after his goal line clearance in 2018-19 against Liverpool, which was the determining factor in City winning that year’s title by a single point.

Post-game, Guardiola said “a lot of things happened in the game, we have time to analyse it after.”
“We have created a good rivalry with Arsenal. It was before with Jurgen (Klopp), now it’s in a different way.
“They have a lot of personality, but we have it (too).”
However, some of the Spaniard’s players weren’t as complimentary of their hosts, who finished the game with 22% possession and appeared hellbent on frustrating their opponents, similar to how former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho set his side up in crucial games.
City’s hero, Stones, questioned Arsenal’s antagonising tactics throughout the contest after the Gunners conceded 10 fouls and looked to slow the game at every possible point.
“I don’t know if they have mastered it, they’ve done it for a few years, and we know to expect that,” the 30-year-old said.
“You can call it clever, or dirty, whichever way you want to put it.
“They break up the game, and obviously it upsets the rhythm for everyone. They use it for their advantage, and I thought we dealt with it really well.”
City midfielder Bernardo Silva was also critical of Arsenal’s tactics, stating: “There was only one team that came to play football.”
“The other came to play to the limits of what was possible to do and allowed by the referee, unfortunately.
“At the end we got a draw, the best we could get considering the context of the last moments of the match.”
Not only did Silva criticse his opponents, but he also took aim at referee Michael Oliver’s complicity in Arsenal’s tactics.
“We had a player injured after they sent him to the ground twice in ten minutes. We had a goal conceded after the referee called our captain and then didn’t allow him to recover his position,” he said.
Things got heated between Arsenal and City during their recent clash.Source: Getty Images
“The second goal is already their usual block to our keeper allowed by the referee.
“And then the referee allowed a sequence of time-wasting events.
“The thing that bothers me the most is having a lot of meetings with the FA at the beginning of each season. They tell us they will control this kind of situation and will stop them, but in the end it doesn’t have any worth. They say a lot but nothing happens.”
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Gary Neville Podcast, former Manchester United right back and perennial title winner Gary Neville described the clash as “exhausting to watch.”
However, given the pre-match expectations of a boring stalemate between the two sides, Neville credited the contest as being “how a big game should be.”
He noted that while Arsenal will be disappointed to not return to London with the three points, Arteta’s side can “take a lot out of that.”
“What they are doing, Arsenal, is impressing us enormously with the way in which they apply themselves; set piece wise and defensively they’re a joy.”
Jamie Carragher, however, felt the Gunners will be bitter with themselves for not seeing out the win, especially considering “City didn’t look that threatening” during the second half.
“We know how vital and how small the margins are, but I just think psychologically to be at that end with your supporters, your coaching staff, on the pitch celebrating that win against Manchester City (is massive),” he said.
Speaking of the animosity between the two sides, Carragher was all praise, noting it reminded him of contests between fierce title rivals in previous eras.
“There’s needle. You can feel that. I can’t wait for the return fixture. I think there’s a real animosity and that wasn’t there at the start when Mikel Arteta first got the job because Arsenal weren’t a threat to Manchester City,” he said.
“This animosity is going to keep building. You think of Manchester United versus Arsenal. You think of what we (Liverpool) had with Chelsea all those years ago.
“You can’t help it, there’s that feeling in your stomach.
“There’s a nastiness about it. I think it’s needed. I love it. I love them coming together. That little bit of friction, as long as it doesn’t cross the line it just adds a little bit of something to the fixture.”
