IPL 2023 [WATCH]: Sandeep Sharma’s little daughter reacts cutely after seeing her father on TV during CSK vs RR match

The nail-biting last-ball thriller between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) broke all the previous viewership records on Jio Cinema as the live viewer count touched the all-time high 2.2 crore mark towards the end of the game. Among all, the newborn daughter of the CSK-RR match’s hero Sandeep Sharma also watched her father bowl the 20th over and reacted in a cute manner seeing the latter on Television.

CSK needed 21 runs off the last over bowled by Sandeep, and he started nervously with a couple of wides. Later the right-arm pacer was launched for two sixes by MS Dhoni. However, he regained his composure and did not concede any other boundaries in the remaining balls, securing a memorable victory for the RR. Following Sandeep’s heroism, a video went viral on social media that showed his newborn daughter watching him bowl the final over on TV and reacting cutely. The 29-year-old cricketer even himself retweeted the clip on his official Twitter handle.

    Here’s the video:

After the game, Sandeep also praised CSK captain Dhoni and congratulated him for leading CSK in the IPL for the 200th time.

“Congratulations @msdhoni paji for the 200 IPL matches. An honour to share the field and bowl to him. Forever grateful. #dreamcometrue,” Sandeep tweeted.

Notably, Sandeep went unsold at the IPL 2023 auction but was later picked up by RR as a replacement for the injured Prasidh Krishna at his base price of ₹50 lahks.

Speaking about his game plan in the post-match presentation after winning the game for the Rajasthan-based team, Sandeep said: “I wanted to deliver yorkers in the last over. I was bowling good yorkers in the nets. The leg-side was big, but I missed my mark and bowled a couple of low full-tosses and both went for sixes. Then I changed my angle and it worked. I bowled over the wicket to Jadeja and I wanted to keep it away from his reach.”

  • R Ashwin’s 3 best IPL spells in Chennai

R Ashwin’s 3 best IPL spells in Chennai

Ravichandran Ashwin came to prominence with his stellar performances for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL. He was with the side from the inaugural season and blossomed under MS Dhoni. Such was his impact that he quickly went on to become India’s main spinner across all three formats and grew into one of India’s greatest Test bowlers.

Ashwin has always enjoyed himself at his home ground at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, even while playing for Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and now the Rajasthan Royals (RR).

He recently gave a glimpse of his ability and his match-winning prowess on the spin-friendly Chennai surface. In RR’s last match against the Chennai Super Kings, Ashwin once again stood out with his excellent bowling. He ended with figures of 2/25 runs in four overs.

We take a look at R Ashwin’s best performances in Chennai in the IPL over the years:

    #3 3 for 16 vs KKR, 2010

Ashwin loves the conditions in Chennai
Ashwin loves the conditions in Chennai

On a tricky track in Chennai, KKR captain Sourav Ganguly opted to bat first but things went downhill pretty quickly for them. Ashwin was introduced into the attack early in the game and made an immediate impression.

He tricked Chris Gayle as the West Indian danced down the track only to be beaten by the turn and bounce. MS Dhoni did the rest behind the stumps. He kept the pressure and went on to pick the wickets of Brendon McCullum and David Hussey. None of the KKR batters were able to read Ashwin’s variations and they could only manage to score 139 runs.

In response, CSK romped home to victory with nine wickets to spare thanks primarily to Suresh Raina and his counter-attacking knock of 78 off 39 deliveries.

    #2 3 for 16 vs RCB, 2011

Ashwin stamped his authority in the 2011 IPL final
Ashwin stamped his authority in the 2011 IPL final

During the 2011 IPL final, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) set a daunting target of 206 runs against a strong Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batting line-up, led by Chris Gayle, who had scored 608 runs in the tournament.

Ashwin opened the bowling with a short-of-length delivery that turned away from Gayle, forcing him to play inside the line. With a change in pace on the third delivery, Ashwin induced an outside edge off Gayle’s bat, dismissing him early. The wicket proved to be crucial as RCB’s batting line-up fell apart, eventually losing the match by 58 runs.

Ashwin then went on to get rid of Mayank Agarwal and Daniel Vettori and ended RCB’s hope in the final as CSK clinched the title by winning the final with a comprehensive margin of 58 runs.

    #1 3 for 23 vs Delhi Daredevils, 2012

Ashwin spun a web around Delhi in IPL 2022

Chennai Super Kings took on Delhi Daredevils in the second qualifier back in IPL 2012. Murali Vijay led the charge for Chennai with a thumping century. His innings of 113 off 58 balls powered CSK to a mammoth total of 222 for 5.

In response, Delhi never got going and when Ashwin decided to spin a web around the Delhi batters, the result was a foregone conclusion. Ashwin accounted for Andre Russell, Mahela Jayawardene and Umesh Yadav to finish with three wickets for 23 runs. CSK thumped Delhi by 86 runs to progress further in the IPL playoffs.

WATCH: ‘Oh Yes…’ MS Dhoni celebrates as Ravindra Jadeja cleans up Sanju Samson in CSK-RR clash – IPL 2023

The 17th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) is a special one for CSK as MS Dhoni is leading the Yellow Army for the record 200th time in the cash-rich league.

Dhoni won the toss during his 200th appearance for CSK and elected to bowl first. The decision, however, didn’t go as planned, with Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal taking the toll on CSK bowlers.

After losing Yashasvi Jaiswal in the second over, Buttler and Padikkal steadied the innings with their counterattack. The duo added 77 runs for the second wicket and were looking unstoppable at the moment. Dhoni then went for Ravindra Jadeja, and the move worked for the Super Kings, with Jaddu breaking the partnership by removing Padikkal for 38 in the ninth over.

Jadeja dismissed Padikkal after the left-handed batter went for a glory shot but ended up getting caught at deep backward square leg by Devon Conway. Jaddu didn’t just stop there as he provided a double blow to RR by getting rid of their skipper Sanju Samson in the same over.

It happened during the penultimate delivery when Jadeja bowled an absolute cracker of a delivery which cleaned up Samson. The star all-rounder bowled a fullish and quicker delivery drifting into the middle and leg. The RR skipper made the mistake of going back as the white leather turned from there, past the back foot and smashed the off-stump. As soon as Jadeja cleaned up Samson, Dhoni was heard saying ‘Oh Yes’ as the veteran stumper clearly enjoyed the dismissal of his counterpart.

    Here is the video:

The Royals ended up scoring 175/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Buttler was the top-scorer for RR, smashing 52 from 36 balls, including 3 sixes and a four. Apart from Buttler, Padikkal (38), Ravichandran Ashwin (30) and Shimron Hetmyer (30 no) chipped in with crucial contributions to take the team to a respectable total.

WATCH: Dwaine Pretorius and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s tag-team catch to dismiss Tristan Stubbs – IPL 2023, CSK vs MI

Teamwork is vital for any sport, and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) match in IPL 2023 provided an excellent example of it. During the game, Dwaine Pretorius and Ruturaj Gaikwad worked together brilliantly to pull off an exciting catch, sending back MI’s Tristan Stubbs. The catch, which could only be described as tag-team work at its best, proved the significance of teamwork in cricket.

CSK restricted MI to 157/8 with a spirited bowling performance at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. MI had some good starts, but their batters failed to convert them into anything substantial. Ishan Kishan was the top-scorer with 32 off 21 balls. Although MI could have scored more runs, Stubbs’ dismissal prevented that from happening. Coming in place of Jofra Archer, Stubbs aimed to give MI a fiery finish along with Tim David.

Batting on five off nine balls, Stubbs attempted to loft the ball over long-off. He failed to time the slower delivery, which was an off-cutter and was pitched outside off stump. At this point, Pretorius and Gaikwad pulled off an excellent catch near the boundary line. Pretorius lost his balance while tracking back but threw the ball upwards before falling. Running from long-on, Gaikwad completed the catch comfortably, giving the finishing touches to Pretorius’ excellent effort.

    Here’s the video:

For CSK, the local boy Ajinkya Rahane played a scintillating knock of 61 in just 27 balls, which helped the MS Dhoni-led side chase down the total with seven wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare.

  • MI vs CSK, IPL 2023: MI Player Ratings as Rohit Sharma and Co. suffer another one-sided defeat after batting horror show

MI vs CSK, IPL 2023: MI Player Ratings as Rohit Sharma and Co. suffer another one-sided defeat after batting horror show

The Mumbai Indians (MI) stayed winless in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat them by seven wickets at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, April 8.

Rohit Sharma and Co. were put in to bat, and although they got off to a decent start in the powerplay, they quickly lost the plot in the middle overs to end up with just 157/8. Ajinkya Rahane led the way for the Super Kings in the chase as they got over the line with 11 balls to spare.

Here are MI’s player ratings from Match 12 of IPL 2023 against CSK.

IPL 2023, MI vs CSK: Only 2 Mumbai batters cross 30-run mark as stacked lineup fails to deliver

MI captain Rohit Sharma made 21 runs against CSK
MI captain Rohit Sharma made 21 runs against CSK

    Rohit Sharma: 5/10

Although he was clearly troubled by the swing on offer in the powerplay, Rohit managed to make 21 off 13 balls, striking three fours and a six. He soon lost his stumps as Tushar Deshpande delivered a beautiful outswinger. The MI skipper’s team selections and on-field strategies were all over the place.

    Ishan Kishan: 6.5/10

Kishan struck five fours in his 32, an innings that promised more than it delivered despite being his side’s top score. He found long-on off a short delivery from Ravindra Jadeja that he should have dispatched.

    Cameron Green: 5/10

Green made 12 runs in his second IPL outing before a stunning Jadeja return catch had to see him walk back to the hut. He bowled three overs that went for 20 runs.

    Suryakumar Yadav: 2/10

Suryakumar’s insipid start to IPL 2023 continued as he gloved a terrible leg-sided delivery from Mitchell Santner to a sharp MS Dhoni behind the stumps. The dynamic batter needs to start living up to his billing.

    Tilak Varma: 6/10

Tilak hit two fours and a six in his promising 22 but was trapped in front by a Jadeja delivery that spun in. The youngster is usually incredibly assured against spin and it was a rather uncharacteristic dismissal.

    Tristan Stubbs: 2/10

Batting as low as No. 8, Stubbs labored to five runs off nine balls before being forced into a big hit. Sisanda Magala grabbed his first IPL wicket as the young South African walked back in the 16th over.

    Tim David: 6.5/10

David threatened to do a Kieron Pollard and take the game away from CSK, striking a four and two sixes. Deshpande held his nerve, though, forcing an imprudent shot from the big-hitting batter with a well-disguised off-cutter.

    Hrithik Shokeen: 6/10

Shokeen contributed a handy unbeaten 18 towards the end of the MI innings but was ineffective with the ball in hand. The off-spinner’s two overs went for 19 runs.

    Mohammad Arshad Khan: 1/10

Arshad had a tough outing in Mumbai. Promoted to No. 6, he lasted just four balls before being trapped in front by Mitchell Santner. The left-armer was also taken apart by Rahane, who hammered him for a six and three overs in a hugely expensive powerplay over.

    Kumar Kartikeya [impact]: 7/10

Coming in as the impact player, Kartikeya sent down a decent spell, barring a full-toss that was dispatched by Ruturaj Gaikwad. The left-arm spinner brought out a few variations and outfoxed Shivam Dube. He bowled out his quota and was MI’s most economical bowler.

    Piyush Chawla: 5/10

Chawla’s four overs cost Mumbai 33 runs. He claimed Rahane’s wicket off a rather poor delivery, and it was his last over that lent some respectability to his figures.

    Jason Behrendorff: 6.5/10

Behrendorff generated some movement in the powerplay, harrying Devon Conway before castling him. His over at the fag end of CSK’s innings wasn’t particularly impressive, and Rohit should’ve used the left-arm pacer earlier.

Poll : Should Suryakumar Yadav bat at No. 4 for MI?

‘Got to know Moeen’s unwell before toss, Fleming said ‘You’re playing” – Ajinkya Rahane after match-winning knock against MI

A jam-packed crowd at the Wankhede were treated to a masterclass in batting from local hero Ajinkya Rahane when the two heavyweights, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, collided in the 12th match of IPL 2023. Rahane, who smashed the fastest half-century of the season in the encounter, revealed being informed of his inclusion right before the toss.

Ajinkya Rahane’s last appearance in a competitive match came in a Ranji Trophy game in January earlier this year. But the way the 34-year-old batted on his CSK debut, it felt like he was part of the playing eleven from the very first match. He made his way to the crease after Devon Conway was dismissed for a duck in the very first over of the chase.

It took the veteran Indian batter just 27 balls to make a mockery of the target set by Mumbai Indians as he smashed the fastest half-century of this year’s tournament. Following his heroics with the bat, Rahane revealed that he was informed about his inclusion in the eleven at the very last moment as Moeen Ali was not feeling too well.

“I really enjoyed it, I got to know it before the toss. Moeen was unwell. And Flem told me I was playing. Had a good domestic season. I just try to maintain my shape. Focus on timing. It is all about you have to feel that you are playing a match. IPL is a long tournament and you never know when you get an opportunity,” Rahane said in the post-match presentation.

I would want to play a Test at Wankhede: Rahane

The 34-year-old, who played a match-winning innings for CSK, last played for the national side in January 2022 after being one of the most dependable red-ball batters for team India. Rahane expressed his desire to play a Test match at the Wankhede, having never played a red-ball game at the iconic venue.

“I always enjoy playing at Wankhede. I have never played a Test here. I would want to play a Test here. Important thing about Mahi bhai and Fleming is they give freedom to everyone. Mahi bhai told me to prepare well,” he added.

IPL 2023: Virender Sehwag, Kevin Pietersen & others react as Ajinkya Rahane propel CSK to emphatic win over MI

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) continued their winning momentum by registering a convincing victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ‘El Clasico’ clash at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, April 8.

CSK skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bowl first, with both teams announcing key absentees. While CSK was without the services of star English all-rounders Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes, MI missed the presence of their pace spearhead Jofra Archer.

Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for CSK with a three-wicket haul that played a crucial role in restricting MI to a paltry total of 157-8. MI opener Ishan Kishan was the top-scorer with 32 runs, but none of the other batsmen could make significant contributions. The CSK bowlers kept the pressure on throughout the innings and never let the MI batsmen settle.

In reply, CSK got off to a flying start, thanks to their debutant Ajinkya Rahane, who scored a quick-fire half-century off just 19 balls. His innings provided a solid foundation for CSK to chase down the target with ease. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ambati Rayudu also chipped in with valuable contributions, as CSK chased down the target with seven wickets in hand.

  • 3 reasons why Moeen Ali could be CSK’s MVP for IPL 2023

3 reasons why Moeen Ali could be CSK’s MVP for IPL 2023

Moeen Ali is the perfect white-ball player and is even more suited to being the match-winner in the shortest format. Chennai Super Kings lapped him when he was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Moeen Ali has fit in perfectly with his role in the side.

MS Dhoni loves spin-bowling all-rounders and Moeen Ali fits the bill perfectly. He gave glimpses of his abilities last year, but this year, he seems to have hit the right notes. With him being a huge member of England’s amazing white-ball side, Moeen has the experience to be an MVP for Chennai in the IPL this season.

We take a look at reasons why Moeen Ali can be CSK’s MVP in IPL 2023:

#3 Provides balance – regular starter

An all-rounder who is a regular starter when available
An all-rounder who is a regular starter when available

Moeen Ali is the perfect all-rounder that MS Dhoni absolutely loves. He will feature in all matches if available and hence, this gives him the chance to always be in the game and make his presence felt.

He will, on most occasions, bowl his four overs and will mostly bat in the top order – two traits that will help him accumulate most points. Apart from these skills, he is standing in the slips to the spinners and will be able to make a difference with his fielding as well.

    #2 Tremendous impact in Chennai

Moeen made a real impact with the ball
Moeen made a real impact with the ball

Moeen did not bowl in the first match of the season when CSK took on the Gujarat Titans. However, MS Dhoni gave him the ball when the conditions were conducive in Chennai and he made an immediate impact.

CSK have three genuine match-winners with the ball in the form of Mitchell Santner, Ravindra Jadeja, and Moeen Ali. Hence, the pitches on offer could well start to turn and this first match on the surface that saw batters have a blast could be an aberration.

Moeen is extremely accurate and keeps attacking the stumps – this will keep him in the contest. He returned with four wickets in his first outing this season in Chennai and changed the complexion of the match with his off breaks. The conditions will only get more favorable to the spinners as the season pans out and Moeen has a real chance to make it his own.

    #1 Natural hitter of spinners

    A natural hitter of spinners
    A natural hitter of spinners

MS Dhoni tends to use Moeen up the order and the left-hander has been enjoying the extra freedom that comes with this role. It doesn’t take long for him to start ticking, and this could be another reason why he could emerge as the MVP this season.

With Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway getting CSK off to breezy starts, the platform will invariably be set for Moeen to saunter out and keep the pressure on the bowlers. This will be even more true when he is up against the spinners when the conditions start to become sluggish. Although he generally struggles against high pace bouncers, he won’t encounter these conditions in the IPL.
