Reese’s postgame comments seemed to take aim at Caitlin Clark, the highly-touted No. 1 pick for the Indiana Fever, who is still in search of her first professional win.

Although Reese did not name anyone specifically, her message was clear.

“And that’s on getting a WIN in a packed area not just cause of one player on our charter flight. #SKYTOWN,”Reese posted on her official X account.

This statement came in the wake of the Fever’s ongoing struggles, having yet to secure a victory this season and losing twice to the New York Liberty.

The Fever will face the Los Angeles Sparks next and will host the Sky on June 1, a game already brimming with anticipation due to the underlying rivalry between Reese and Clark.

Reese’s performance against the Liberty was instrumental in the Sky’s victory, particularly in the fourth quarter where she scored eight of her total 13 points.

Her clutch and-one layup with two minutes remaining sealed the deal for Chicago.

Marina Mabrey led the team with an outstanding 21 points, six rebounds, and seven assists, while Michaela Onyenwere added 13 points and five rebounds.

Dana Evans and Chennedy Carter also made significant contributions with 12 points each.

Defensively, Reese played a crucial role in limiting Liberty star Breanna Stewart to just 18 points.

This defensive effort was key to handing the Liberty their first loss of the season.

Reese vs Clark rivalry set to take WNBA center stage

Much of the season’s buzz has surrounded Caitlin Clark, but Angel Reese is making her presence felt.

Reese’s consistent performance, scoring over ten points in each of her first three games, has set her apart from other rookies.

She also set a franchise record with 26 rebounds over these initial games.

The ongoing rivalry between Reese and Clark dates back to their college days, highlighted by LSU’s victory over Iowa in the 2023 national title game, and Iowa’s subsequent elimination of LSU in the Elite 8 earlier this year.

This history only adds more intrigue to their upcoming WNBA matchup on June 1.

As both players focus on their respective teams and aim to elevate the sport, Reese’s recent comments underscore the competitive fire that continues to fuel this compelling rivalry.

The anticipation for their head-to-head encounter is palpable, promising an exciting showdown for WNBA fans.

  • Chicago Sky coach reveals hard truth about Angel Reese's free throw struggles

Chicago Sky coach reveals hard truth about Angel Reese's free throw struggles

Angel Reese, the rising star of the Chicago Sky, has swiftly made her mark in the WNBA, showcasing a formidable playing style reminiscent of her dominance at LSU. The physical, paint-centric approach that defined her collegiate career is proving to be a winning formula at the professional level, with Reese‘s on-court energy igniting her teammates.

However, Reese‘s early WNBA journey hasn’t been without its hurdles. Two notable criticisms have emerged: her tendency to foul and her free throw shooting. In her WNBA regular season debut, Reese struggled at the charity stripe, converting only 2 out of 8 attempts-an area that requires refinement for her continued success.

Yet, amidst these challenges, Reese demonstrated resilience and improvement. In a recent game against the Dallas Wings, she showcased progress by sinking 5 of 7 free throws-a marked improvement from her debut performance. Chicago Sky’s head coach, Teresa Weatherspoon, emphasized the necessity of this improvement, highlighting the team’s dedication to honing their skills, particularly at the free throw line.

    Weatherspoon wants Reese to improve

“We work too much, too long on free throws to step up there and shoot the way that we did the first game,” Weatherspoon remarked. “But it happens. Those things happen. So what do you do to bounce back from it? You work at it again, you go right back to the drawing board… and they did.”

Weatherspoon‘s satisfaction with Reese‘s progress reflects the team’s commitment to continuous improvement. As Reese navigates the challenges of her rookie season, her determination and willingness to refine her game offer promise for a bright future in the WNBA.

Angel Reese’s journey epitomizes the resilience and adaptability required to excel at the highest level of women’s basketball, underscoring her status as a rising star to watch in the league.

  • ESPN's Angel Reese and Chicago Sky snub sparks fury among WNBA fans

ESPN's Angel Reese and Chicago Sky snub sparks fury among WNBA fans

Angel Reese is one of the most admired players today. The Chicago Sky forward’s popularity is slightly below Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark. However, it appears that no one notified ESPN, as the network has not broadcast any of the Sky’s games, causing the ire of fans.

Reese made her official WNBA debut Wednesday night against the Dallas Wings. Reese’s followers and WNBA fans were looking forward to the game. Instead, the network decided to broadcast the NHL’s postseason games.

The decision did not leave fans very happy, especially after the extensive coverage that ESPN gave to Clark and the Fever’sdebut on Tuesday the 14th against the Connecticut Sun. Not only that, the network also didn’t air any of Reese’s preseason games.

The lack of television coverage of the game between Chicago and the Minnesota Lynx attracted fans to a live stream from a fan via X, formerly Twitter. The stream generated 500,000 total views, but ESPN remained unfazed.

    Fan’s critics

As soon as it became clear that ESPN would not broadcast Sky-Wings, fans flocked to social media to launch bitter criticism against the broadcaster.

ESPN trippin for not finding a spot for Angel Reese debut,” complained one user on X. WNBA gone give Caitlin Clark ESPN and give Angel Reese debut non televised on Twitter lol see how they play it,” claimed one more.

“Dawg, why is the Chicago Sky game not on ESPN wtf… they tryna charge me 35 for a league pass on YOUTUBE? Angel Reese and Kamila (Cardoso) have both carried teams to chips, how they not getting ESPN…” commented another fan.

“People would tune in on this Angel Reese game if it was on ESPN.. smh guess ima buy the WNBA pass bc I’ll support, but this game needs to be on ESPN!!” another follower warned.

The WNBA season is only in its early days, so there is still time for ESPN to resolve its scheduling conflicts. Fairer coverage of the different women’s professional basketball teams would end up benefiting everyone.

Reese, formerly of the LSU Tigers, and Cardoso, who represented the South Carolina Gamecocks, now find themselves on the same team after facing off in intense NCAA battles.

Their transition from rivals to teammates has sparked intrigue, especially considering the apparent “beef” between the two during their college matchups. However, both players have been quick to dismiss any animosity, emphasizing that their competitive banter was confined to the basketball court.

Addressing rumors of friction, Cardoso took to TikTok to set the record straight, stating, “We are a great duo. I’m going to tell you this once and one time only… Social media really be trying to be messy. We played against each other, it’s competition… Outside of basketball, we cool.”

Angel Reese comes out to strongly support fellow black WNBA players from damaging insults

Angel Reese may have rubbed some people the wrong way during her time at LSU due to her confidence on the court, but off the court she continues to do everything in her power to raise up women within the basketball industry.

Angel Reese makes powerful statement about media in clothing ad on TikTok

On Friday, she came to the defense of two players who aren’t her teammates. They were subject to transphobia and damaging comments from a Twitter user despite both of them being biological women.

The two black women are Kalani Brown and Teaira McCowan. Both players are listed at 6-foot-7, which apparently allows for social media users to make false and disgusting claims about them.

Reese, and plenty of others online, came to their defense and rightfully called out the user. WNBA players have enough on their plate trying to change the perception about women athletes in general. It makes it much more difficult, particularly for black players, when rhetoric like this continues to exist.

Reese and the Chicago Sky are currently preparing for their regular season opener. They will be going against the Dallas Wings, with Brown and McCowan on the opposing side.
