    Ayush Badoni dethrones Chris Gayle to become new six-hitting king in T20s with record-breaking knock

    South Delhi Superstarz batter Ayush Badoni broke the massive record of Chris Gayle in the T20s. The young batter surpassed Universe Boss’ record of most sixes in a T20 knock as he hit 19 maximums during his innings on Saturday (31st August).

    Ayush Badoni achieved the feat during the game between South Delhi Superstarz and North Delhi Strikers in the Delhi Premier League T20 2024.

    The match between the two teams took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, which saw a run festival.

    Ayush Badoni was at his brutal best as he played a magnificent innings that helped his team win the game. The right-hander went after the bowlers right from the start and slammed the North Delhi Strikers bowlers all over the park, making them look clueless.

    Ayush Badoni didn’t put a foot wrong in his innings. The middle-order batter slammed a brutal ton, and even after that, he didn’t stop. He kept hitting the bowlers and made sure that he put his team in the dominating position and ended up putting a total of 308 runs on the board.

    Ayush Badoni ended with an innings of 165 runs from just 55 balls. The right-hander, during his innings, had as many as 19 sixes.

    He broke the joint record of Chris Gayle, who hit 18 sixes in his 69-ball 146 for Rangpur Riders in the 2017 Bangladesh Premier League, and Sahil Chauhan of Estonia, who achieved the same feat in a T20 International against Cyprus earlier this year.

    Not only this, Badoni, with his innings of 165 runs, also broke Shreyas Iyer’s record for the highest score by an Indian in the shortest format of the game. He overtook Shreyas Iyer’s record of 147 runs, which he scored for Mumbai against Sikkim in Indore on February 21, 2019.

    Badoni also ended up stitching 286 runs for the second wicket with Priyansh Arya, who also slammed 120 runs, hitting six sixes in his innings.

    The duo broke the record of Japan’s batting duo of Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake (134) and Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming (109), who added 258 in a T20I match against China in Mong Kok.

    Based on Badoni’s innings, the South Delhi team posted a gigantic total of 308 runs on the board. This notably is the second-highest total in the history of the T20s. They also went on to win the game by a massive margin and gained two important points.

    An Australian cricketer has been compared to a Barbie and a netballer labelled “fat” in shocking examples of sexist sport commentary. Watch them here.

    Just when you thought commentary of women’s sports couldn’t get any more cringe-worthy, along comes not one but two contenders for most inappropriate comments of the year.

    And this time, it’s not just men putting their foot in it – but more on that later.

    First, lets start with the creepy male English cricket commentator who channelled his inner Chris Gayle and ‘don’t blush baby’ vibes when chatting with Australian cricketer Maitlan Brown during The Hundred series.

    Former Love Island contestant Chris Hughes proved why you shouldn’t give reality TV contestants real television jobs when he gushed over Australia’s blond-haired emerging star.

    All was going well, until Brown mentioned a team bonding detail.

    “We watched Barbie the other night altogether and it was really good team bonding and the group is gelling really well together,” Brown said.

    “That is the key to success I think in tournaments like this, how well and how quickly you can gel as a group.”

    It was at this point, Hughes thought he was back on the island, not broadcasting serious women’s sport to a worldwide audience.

    “You’re a bit of a barbie yourself,” he said, prompting an awkward and uncomfortable laugh from Brown.

    “She’s blushing now,” he continued before moving onto his next question.

    But if you thought that was bad, at least he didn’t call her fat like a netball commentator in South Africa did during the Tonga and Zimbabwe clash.

    The female commentator was attempting to praise one of the players, but while the camera was fixed on the Zimbabwean goalshooter she made a brutal remark about weight.

    “She is reminding me a lot of myself, she is fat but she can jump and get the ball at the same time,” the unnamed commentator said.

    Even her co-commentator remarked at the time “you can’t say that.”

    ‘Probationary club’: Subbies move on Endeavour Hills

    The VSDCA club which welcomed Chris Gayle and a host of ex-Test stars has lost full member status of the historic competition. PAUL AMY reveals why.

    Victorian Sub-District club Endeavour Hills has taken another hit, copping a $7500 fine and having its Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association affiliation put on probation.

    The Subbies board said the Hills’ actions in the past 18 months “adversely reflected’’ the good name of the competition.

    It has changed Endeavour Hills’ status from “full member club’’ to “probationary club’’ for the next two years.

    The board will review its performance in 2023-24 and 2024-25 before reassessing its standing.

    The club was rarely out of the headlines last season after recruiting a string of international players, including Chris Gayle, to play in two exhibition T20 matches at Dandenong’s Shepley Oval.

    But ahead of the matches a player attached to the Hills was charged with criminal offences, with police alleging he stole more than $200,000 to pay for the recruiting spree.

    They confirmed the charges — 18 counts of obtaining financial advantage by deception and one count of knowingly dealing with proceeds of crime — two days before the first exhibition late last November.

    It went ahead, with Gayle and Pakistan veteran Shoaib Malik arriving at the ground in a black Mercedes to line up alongside fellow Test players Tillakaratne Dilshan, Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne against Queensland club team Western Suburbs.

    Gayle cracked 95 not out off 65 balls before taking in a set from DJ Havana Brown during the innings break.

    The second game was cancelled.

    Dilshan, Karunarate and Thirimanne also played VSDCA home-and-away matches for Endeavour Hills, but none returned after Christmas.

    The club had threatened legal action against the Subbies over their player-points assessment of Thirimanne.

    They marked him down as a five-pointer, but Endeavour Hills was adamant it should have been four.

    An independent Cricket Victoria panel ruled in the club’s favour.

    In a June 14 email to clubs marked “confidential’’, VSDCA president Phil O’Meara said the board believed Endeavour Hills “has engaged in conduct prejudicial to the association’’.

    He said the fine and the change in its affiliation status “reflect the board’s view of how they consider the actions of Endeavour Cricket Club over the past 18 months have aversely reflected on the good name of the VSDCA across the broader cricket community’’.

    O’Meara is overseas and could not be contacted but VSDCA secretary Ken Hilton told CODE Sports: “The penalties reflect how seriously the VSDCA board consider the actions of Endeavour Hills.

    “Nobody on the board or across the competition has got any problem with a club trying to improve itself and be more competitive.

    “But what we’re asking our 32 clubs is to do it within the framework of the association. I’m not going to go through everything that’s happened – it’s all been documented in various articles – but when you start questioning the integrity of the board and board officials, it’s not the appropriate thing to do, and it had an impact.

    “We don’t want to lose Endeavour Hills. They’ve got good facilities and they’ve been a good club since they joined the VSDCA. It’s not the board’s intention to show them the door or anything like that. But the board felt strongly that the good name of the association had been impacted through their actions and various comments that were made.’’

    Hilton said he had had no contact with Endeavour Hills but understood the club was disappointed with the sanctions.

    Arun Rajendran has stood down as president, with Sagar Aher taking over.

    The club has yet to appoint a senior coach.

    The Hills, who joined the Sub-District association in 1998-99, have been contacted for comment.

    During the match between India Maharajas, led by Gambhir, and World Giants, captained by Aaron Finch, off-spinner Harbhajan stole the show with his outstanding delivery.

    Harbhajan’s spinning delivery in the third over of the Giants’ innings left the crowd awestruck. The ball spun sharply and beat the great Chris Gayle, who failed to judge it and saw his stumps rattled. Harbhajan’s delivery was compared to Shane Warne’s iconic “Ball of the Century” that he had bowled to dismiss Mike Gatting in the 1993 Old Trafford Ashes Test.

    The delivery left Gayle baffled as he struggled to come to terms with the brilliance of the delivery. Even Harbhajan was taken aback by his own delivery, and his teammates congratulated him for getting the team their first breakthrough.

    Coming to the match, Giants posted a total of 166/8 on the board after opting to bat first. Skipper Finch scored 53 off 31 balls while Shane Watson smashed 32-ball 55. Harbhajan was the pick of the bowlers for the Maharajas with four wickets for 13 runs in his two overs.

    In reply, Maharaj fell just two runs shorts of the target as Giants pacer Brett Lee defended 7 runs in the final over the match. For Maharajas, captain Gambhir top-scored with 68 runs off 42 balls.
