The Kings opted to bowl first after winning the toss, quickly putting pressure on the Warriors. Noor Ahmad was instrumental in their success, claiming three wickets for just 19 runs, which helped restrict the Warriors to a total of 138/8. Despite early setbacks in their batting lineup, with key players Faf du Plessis and Johnson Charles dismissed cheaply, Roston Chase (39 off 22) and Aaron Jones (48 off 31) led a remarkable recovery to secure the win with 11 balls to spare.

The victory not only brought joy to the team’s supporters but has also reignited enthusiasm for cricket in Saint Lucia. As the Kings bask in their glory, Preity’s heartfelt message serves as a reminder of the passion and commitment that drives cricket teams toward greatness.

WATCH: Maheesh Theekshana cleans up Sunil Narine with an unplayable delivery in CPL 2024 Eliminator

In a gripping Eliminator match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, Barbados Royals emerged victorious against the Trinbago Knight Riders by 9 wickets, successfully chasing down a revised target of 60 runs in just 4.2 overs using the DLS method. This win propelled the Royals into the next round of the tournament, demonstrating their prowess and resilience under pressure.

The match was marked by a standout performance from David Miller, whose explosive unbeaten 50 runs off just 17 balls proved instrumental in securing the victory. In addition to that remarkable match, one of the standout moments was Maheesh Theekshana‘s stunning delivery that clean-bowled Sunil Narine.

Maheesh Theekshana’s brilliant wicket of Sunil Narine

In the first over of the innings, Theekshana executed a stunning delivery to dismiss Narine, showcasing his exceptional bowling skills. The delivery was pitched back of a length, enticing Narine to come down the wicket. As Narine advanced, Theekshana cleverly bowled a ball that spun away from him, creating a deceptive angle. Narine aimed to play the ball straight down the ground, trying to counter the spin. However, the ball curved sharply, eluding his bat and crashing into the stumps. This clever piece of bowling not only claimed Narine’s wicket but also set a tone for Theekshana’s performance in the match. The wicket marked Trinbago at 2/1, with Narine scoring just 2 runs off 3 balls.

This was quickly followed by the fall of Jason Roy for 25 runs, leaving the team struggling at 54 for 2. Nevertheless, Nicholas Pooran steadied the innings with a brilliant performance, scoring an impressive 91 runs off 60 balls, striking 6 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. His aggressive approach and ability to find boundaries were pivotal in helping Trinbago set a competitive total of 168 runs in their allotted 19.1 overs. Kieron Pollard contributed with 17 runs, while Andre Russell remained not out on 20, ensuring a solid finish to the innings.

Barbados Royals’ chase: David Miller’s fireworks propel Royals to victory

Chasing a revised target of 60 runs in 5 overs due to rain interruptions, the Royals started cautiously but quickly gained momentum. The team faced an early setback when Quinton de Kock was dismissed for just 4 runs off 2 balls by Narine. Nonetheless, Miller took charge of the innings with his aggressive batting, scoring a blistering 50 not out off just 17 balls. His innings was characterized by powerful hitting, helping the Royals reach 64 runs for 1 wicket in just 4.2 overs. Rovman Powell, the captain, supported Miller well, finishing with 9 not out. This swift chase not only demonstrated the Royals’ batting strength but also highlighted their ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Despite Pollard’s impressive bowling performance, TKR ultimately fell short in their chase against St Lucia Kings. The Kings had set a challenging target of 218 runs in their innings, thanks to Johnson Charles‘ explosive knock of 89 runs. TKR’s batting lineup struggled to keep pace, and they were eventually bowled out for 138 runs.

The defeat meant that TKR remained in fourth place in the CPL 2024 points table, while St Lucia Kings consolidated their position at the top. While Pollard’s El Dorado celebration may have been a highlight of the match, TKR will be disappointed with their overall performance and will be eager to bounce back in their upcoming games.

CPL 2024, Match 22 Review: Kings disrupt Royals juggernaut to book playoffs berth | CricTracker

Top of the table Barbados Royals played a match to forget in Providence as they scored 96/9 in a match that saw them well beaten by 7 wickets. St Lucia Kings putting in a swaggering display to secure a spot in the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) playoffs.

The Royals elected to bat first upon winning the toss but Alzarri Joseph soon had them rueing that decision as he sent Quinton de Kock’s bails flying skywards with a delicious in-ducker that started the struggles from which the Royals never recovered.

Wickets fell steadily as Joseph and Roston Chase impressed with the ball in hand for the Kings, taking seven wickets between them as the Royals only just managed to bat out their overs – largely thanks to some lower order resistance from Keshav Maharaj and Maheesh Theekshana.

Johnson Charles was caught and bowled by Jason Holder as the Kings set about hauling in the total and secure the win that would see them book a place in the latter stages of the tournament. Faf du Plessis looked good for his 26 off 19 balls before attempting to open the shoulders to Maharaj and being stumped by de Kock, but in truth, the Kings never looked in any trouble.

Roston Chase and Tim Seifert made 39 and 21 respectively to knock off the runs with 37 balls remaining. Alzarri Joseph was duly awarded the Player of the Match award for laying the groundwork with his four wickets earlier in the piece.

It was an off day for the Royals who have looked imperious for most of the tournament so far. They’ll have to dust themselves down with the 2024 competition heading towards the final stages and a handful of teams seemingly hitting peak form at just the right time.

CPL 2024: Chris Jordan joins TKR, Nathan Sowter replaces injured Imran Tahir at Warriors | CricTracker

England pacer Chris Jordan has joined Trinbago Knight Riders for the remainder of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League 2024. The 35-year-old was part of the TKR squad in 2019, when he played five matches, picking up seven wickets at an economy rate of 9.05. In 2024, he replaced USA fast bowler Ali Khan, who has been ruled out of the CPL following an injury.

TKR are currently fourth on the points table, with three wins in four matches. Ahead of their home leg, which begins on September 19, Jordan’s inclusion will boost their confidence and will also add experience to their bowling unit. In 2024, he represented England in seven T20Is, picking up 12 wickets at an economy of 9.07. He also picked up a hat trick earlier in the year against USA.

Imran Tahir ruled out for 10 days

Guyana Amazon Warriors captain Imran Tahir has been ruled out of the competition for 10 days. The spinner missed their last game against Barbados Royals as Shai Hope stood in for him. Notably, the 45-year-old has been effective for the franchise as it was under his leadership that Warriors won the championship in 2023. This year  in three matches, he has picked up six wickets at an economy of 9.63.

Nathan Sowter has been called up to replace Tahir for the next few matches. Meanwhile, all-rounder Romario Shepherd is also on his way back from a toe injury. He played a vital role in Warriors’ success last year. However, he has played only one match so far in the CPL 2024, against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, where he gave away just 13 runs in his three overs and smashed 32 off 16 to help his team win by three wickets.

Warriors are currently third on the points table with six points in three games. They will next play the Trinbago Knight Riders at Port of Spain.

    Kensington Oval Pitch Report

The Kensington Oval pitch is known for offering favorable batting conditions with good pace and bounce, making it an exciting venue for T20 cricket. The venue’s average run rate in T20Is indicates that it provides a balanced contest between bat and ball. Given the conditions, teams winning the toss might prefer to bat first and post a competitive total.

WATCH: Waqar Salamkheil bowls a ripper to outfox Faf du Plessis | CPL 2024, SLK vs TKR

Waqar Salamkheil produced a moment of magic, delivering a stunning ball to dismiss the seasoned Faf du Plessis in the clash between Saint Lucia Kings (SLK) and Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024. Salamkheil’s impressive delivery outfoxed the veteran batter, playing a pivotal role in keeping the match competitive.

Waqar Salamkheil’s magical delivery to dismiss Faf du Plessis

In the seventh over of the Kings’ innings, Salamkheil removed the well-set Du Plessis with a beauty. It was a length delivery on off-stump, and du Plessis, looking to play it into the leg side, pressed back but misjudged the spin. The ball gripped the surface, turned back in sharply, and went through to crash into the stumps. It was a massive breakthrough for the bowling side as du Plessis was looking dangerous. He departed for 34 off 26 balls, having hit one four and three sixes.

Du Plessis wasn’t the only one to fall victim to Salamkheil’s sharp spin. The Afghan bowler also dismissed Matthew Forde, who started aggressively, hitting 11 runs off seven balls. Forde, attempting to clear the ropes again, charged down the wicket but misread the wrong’un and was stumped by Pooran.

Despite Salamkheil’s two crucial wickets, the St. Lucia Kings managed to post a challenging total of 187/6, thanks to Roston Chase’s unbeaten 56 and du Plessis’ 34. Sunil Narine was the standout bowler for Trinbago, claiming 2-13 in his four overs.

Shaqkere Parris anchored the innings with a well-crafted 57, while Kieron Pollard’s explosive 52* off just 19 balls secured the victory. Although Forde (2-9) and Noor Ahmad (2-35) gave St. Lucia hope with timely breakthroughs, Pollard’s late blitz proved decisive.

TKR triumphed by four wickets, reaching 189/6 and extending their winning streak over SLK at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia.

CPL 2024, Match 11 Review: Antigua & Barbuda Falcons pull off a thriller against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots

Antigua & Barbuda Falcons pulled off a stunning two-wicket victory over St Kitts & Nevis Patriots with just two balls to spare in a tense match at the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

After winning the toss and inserting the opposition, the Falcons restricted the Patriots to 153/8 off their 20 overs. Mohammad Amir picked up three wickets for the Falcons and Mikyle Louis starred with the bat for the Patriots.

Louis’ lusty order lower-order hitting ensured thirty-three runs were scored off the last few overs as he cruised to 63 runs off just 36 balls, including seven sixes. A target of 153 was a success of sorts for the home side after they were earlier reeling at 60/4 in the ninth over.

In response, the Falcons seemed to be hauling in the target without too many alarms, Brandon King and Justin Greaves striking their way to 55 before King fell in the fifth over – trapped in front of the stumps by the pace of Anrich Nortje. From then on the plain sailing was over as the Falcons lost regular wickets and the match remained too close to call.

Wanindu Hasaranga was the main architect of the damage with the ball for the visitors, the Sri Lankan all-rounder’s leg-breaks and assorted varieties posing a constant threat. Justin Greaves, Sam Billings, the dangerous Jewel Andrew, and Shamar Springer were all pocketed by Hasaranga in a devastating period of top-quality spin bowling.

At 110/7 when Billings departed the scene, it looked as if the Falcons’ wings had been clipped and that the duel was going the way of the Patriots. Roshon Primus and Imad Wasim combined effectively to hit the gaps in the field and take every single run on offer in order to eke their way closer to the target. With three overs to go, the Falcons required 22 runs to win with three wickets in hand.

Dominic Drakes was summoned into the attack and bowled a frugal over that was hit for just six runs to leave the equation as 15 runs were needed from 12 balls. Primus was then caught off a backward point off Nortje as the pendulum swung towards the Patriots in the penultimate over.

With 11 runs needed from the final over, Fabian Allen stole the game at the last for the Falcons, smiting consecutive Drakes short balls for six and four into the leg side and scampering the single needed for victory with two balls remaining.

Imad Wasim was named Player of the Match for his 17 not-out and 2/24 with the ball as the victory took the Falcons to third in the table and left the Patriots bottom of the table after suffering their fifth defeat on the bounce.

CPL 2024: Andre Fletcher and Keemo Paul engage in on-field verbal spat

The match seven of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 saw Guyana Amazon Warriors taking on St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots at the Warner Park in St. Kitts. The Guyana-based franchise emerged victorious by 41 runs, but what caught everyone’s attention was a heated on-field altercation between two key players.

The Warriors set the tone early, scoring 266 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Shimron Hetmyer led the charge with a blistering 91 off just 39 balls, including 11 sixes. He was supported by Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who smashed 69 runs with six maximums and four boundaries. Their combined onslaught put the Patriots in the backfoot.

Facing a daunting target, the Patriots began their chase with determination. Despite losing Evin Lewis early, captain Andre Fletcher and Sherfane Rutherford kept their team in the hunt with an aggressive partnership.

The moment came in the eighth over of the Patriots’ innings. Keemo Paul, visibly frustrated by captain Andre Fletcher’s free-scoring, attempted to obstruct the batter’s running path. This move did not sit well with Fletcher, who immediately confronted Paul.

The exchange quickly escalated, with both players standing their ground and exchanging in a verbal spat. It took the intervention of teammates and umpires to separate the two and prevent the situation from boiling over.

The Patriots continued to fight back, but regular wickets in the middle overs disturbed their chase. Despite their best efforts, they were eventually bowled out for 226 in the 18th over, falling short by 41 runs. With this win, the Imran Tahir-led side has secured two wins in two matches and is sitting comfortably in the second position in the standings. For the Patriots, the ongoing tournament isn’t going the way they would have liked, winning just one game out of the four played.
