‘Nobody gives you discount for age’ – MS Dhoni underscores non-negotiable necessity of playing professional cricket

Fitness is indispensable in cricket, playing a pivotal role in every player’s performance on the field. Likewise, there exist only a handful of cricketers who rival the remarkable fitness of former Indian captain, MS Dhoni. His fitness levels have been akin to fine wine, improving with age and never showing signs of decline. His enduring stamina and agility have defied conventional expectations, allowing him to maintain peak performance throughout his illustrious career.

Recently, MS Dhoni discussed the arduous task of staying fit, pinpointing the most challenging aspect as gearing up for the IPL season. As someone not engaged in cricket throughout the year, he admitted to finding it daunting to keep pace with the younger players within his team and those from other franchises, who remain actively involved in international cricket, maintaining peak fitness levels consistently.

He underscored the unforgiving nature of professional sport, stressing that age offers no leniency and doesn’t afford any comfort zone. Additionally, he emphasized that advancing years don’t provide a cushion or any form of relaxation when it comes to maintaining performance standards. Amidst the pervasive influence of social media, Dhoni expressed thankfulness for steering clear of these platforms, enabling him to concentrate fully on his objectives devoid of distractions. Moreover, he highlighted the significance of disciplined dietary choices and consistent training regimens in upholding his fitness levels.

“The toughest thing is, I am not playing cricket throughout the year. So, I have to be fit. Once I come, you are competing against youngsters who are fit and playing international cricket. Professional sport is not easy, nobody gives you a discount for age. If you want to play, you have to be as fit as the other guy. Age does not really give that grace to you. So, eating habits, a bit of training, and all those things are there. Social media, thankfully, I am not on social media, so there’s less distraction,” shared Dhoni in a video on the YouTube Channel of Dubai Eye 103.8.

    These things de-stress me: Dhoni

The revolutionary campaigner, who played his last game for India in 2019 and officially hung up his boots in 2020, opened up that after quitting international cricket, he wanted to spend quality time with his family. However, at the same time, to stay focused, he would indulge in farming and being around his diverse collection of motorbikes, as well as his newly-found interest in vintage cars, which according to him, acted as a stress-buster.

“Once I quit international cricket, I wanted to spend a bit more time with my family. But, at that same time, to be mentally active, to have that passion to stay focussed – for me, I love farming, for me, it is the motorbikes. I have started getting into vintage cars. These things de-stress me,” expressed Dhoni.

Twitter erupts as RCB knocks CSK out to reach the IPL 2024 playoffs

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clinched the final playoff spot in the IPL 2024 by defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday. RCB defended their total of 218, winning by 27 runs at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, which eliminated the defending champions CSK and secured RCB’s fourth place in the points table.

    RCB innings

RCB took full advantage of batting first at their home ground, posting a formidable total in their stipulated overs. The innings started positively with openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis building a solid foundation. Kohli scored a quick 47 runs off 29 balls, including 3 fours and 4 sixes, showing his class and aggression.

Du Plessis played a captain’s knock, anchoring the innings with 54 runs off 39 balls, hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes. The momentum continued with Rajat Patidar, who smashed 41 runs off 23 balls, including 2 fours and 4 sixes, accelerating the run rate in the middle overs.

Cameron Green provided a powerful boost in the later stages, scoring 38 runs off just 17 balls, including 3 fours and 3 sixes. Dinesh Karthik and Glenn Maxwell chipped in with quick runs towards the end, adding 14 and 16 runs respectively in very few balls. Their aggressive batting ensured RCB posted a challenging total of 218/5 against CSK.

    CSK innings

Chasing a daunting target of 219, CSK faced an early setback when Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed for a golden duck on the very first ball. However, Rachin Ravindra brought some stability to the innings with a well-constructed 61 runs off 37 balls, hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes.

Despite the early loss, Ajinkya Rahane played a steady knock, scoring 33 runs off 22 balls with 3 fours and 1 six. Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni attempted to revive the innings with Jadeja scoring a brisk 42 runs off 22 balls, including 3 fours and 3 sixes, and Dhoni contributing 25 runs off 13 balls with 3 fours and 1 six.

The middle-order struggles, including low scores from Daryl Mitchell (4 runs off 6 balls), Shivam Dube (7 runs off 15 balls), and Mitchell Santner (3 runs off 4 balls), hindered CSK’s chase. Eventually, CSK fell short, managing 191/7 in their 20 overs.

‘He has given his blood, sweat, and everything to this team’ – Harbhajan Singh accentuates MS Dhoni’s importance to CSK

Describing MS Dhoni’s legend is a daunting task; he’s been the heartbeat of the Chennai Super Kings since their inception. Through the years, he’s skippered and led the Men in Yellow to victory on five occasions, a feat on par with the Mumbai Indians. Having concluded his international career at the Cricket World Cup 2019, he has since focused solely on the IPL.

At the time, he firmly rejected retirement inquiries with a simple “Definitely Not”. After clinching the record-equalling fifth title in Ahmedabad last year, he decided to extend his IPL stint for another year for the Chennai faithful. Nonetheless, his future plans remain known only to himself. With the culmination of another IPL season on the horizon, the spotlight has once again turned to the topic of MS Dhoni’s future.

Former India cricketer, Harbhajan Singh, who has also played under Dhoni in the IPL during the former’s stint with CSK for three seasons (2018-20), had his response ready to be unveiled while speaking on Star Sports’ Press Room show.

Harbhajan went so far as to assert that Dhoni was the team’s proprietor. He also pointed out that the team’s focal point has always been him, and that it’s built around him, as well as the fact that he’s given his all for the sake of the team. The former office was confident regarding Dhoni being associated with the CSK camp in one form or another in the seasons to come; whether as a mentor or a coach. Highlighting the guiding light that he’s been to other players of the esteemed franchise, Harbhajan felt the franchise would not want to part ways with him, keeping him associated with the unit in some capacity or the other.

“He’s the owner of the team. Uske marzi ke bina waha patta bhi nahi hilta. It’s his team. He has given his blood, sweat and everything to this team. He will always be a part of the CSK group, whether as a mentor or as a coach. He’s everything over thereYou will definitely see him in the CSK dugout in the coming seasons. Maybe not as a player but in some other capacity, but he will be there with the players,” he added.

He’s definitely going to be there, for sure: Rayudu on Dhoni

Ambati Rayudu, who was on the same talk show as Harbhajan, couldn’t agree more, reiterating the latter’s belief stating that even he felt that the team was Dhoni and the 42-year-old was the architect and the mediator of the ethos which CSK is known to be capacitated with.

“Bhajji pa rightly said! That’s his team. He developed the culture that’s there at present. He has been nurturing players in that franchise, and he is definitely going to be there, for sure,” remarked Rayudu.

  • How CSK can Qualify for IPL 2024 Playoffs, CSK Qualification Scenario after CSK vs PBKS IPL Match 53

How CSK can Qualify for IPL 2024 Playoffs, CSK Qualification Scenario after CSK vs PBKS IPL Match 53

    Image: IPLT20

CSK Qualification Scenario: The IPL 2024 has just begun to get into the makeover for its business end, which begins on May 21. The teams are fighting with their every main and might to gain favourable results to secure a playoff berth. In the recent episode of the IPL 2024 clash, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) thrashed Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 28 runs, almost crushing their opponent’s chances of qualification while bolstering theirs. This article will explain how CSK can qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) made a mess of their 167-run hunt against CSK in the second innings at the Dharmshala Cricket Ground. Despite having all the weapons in their arsenal to easily hunt down the target, PBKS felt jitters and hiccups as CSK bowlers rose to the occasion.

PBKS got no substantial partnership throughout the chase which eventually resulted in their failure to chase the modest total, which at the halfway stage looked all theirs. They once flipped the record books by chasing the 261-run target, which is by far the highest-ever T20 total successfully chased, but today they had no answers to the roaring Super Kings’ bowlers.

Meanwhile, CSK has given a befitting replay to the defeat they suffered a few days ago at their home venue. In the previous fixture, CSK faced a seven-wicket defeat against Punjab Kings in Chepauk, but the change in the venue has resulted in the reversal of the fortunes.

Earlier in the game, CSK, too, had a bit of a jittery outing with the bat in hand. Barring all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s 43-run knock, the other batters looked never settled in the middle.

However, the team was successful in posting a total that seemed enough for their bowlers to defend at the Dharmshala Cricket Ground.

The win makes the equation easy for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as they seek a position in the top 4 of the points table. Currently, CSK is placed in the third place with 12 rating points from 11 matches. They have secured a net run rate of 0.700 as well.

As the race for the IPL 2024 playoff gets intensified, let’s have a look at how CSK can Qualify for IPL 2024 Playoffs, CSK Qualification Scenario after CSK vs PBKS IPL Match 53.

How CSK Can Qualify for IPL 2024 Playoffs

How CSK can Qualify for IPL 2024 Playoffs, CSK Qualification Scenario after CSK vs PBKS IPL Match 53
    Image: IPLT20

As of now, CSK are comfortably placed in the points table and their way forward seems to be a cakewalk. Had they lost the game against PBKS, then it would have landed them in a spot of bother, but fortunately they managed to overcome the obstacle convincingly.

To gain a sure-shot place in the IPL 2024 playoffs, CSK needs to win two of their remaining three matches. This way, CSK will safely land a place, probably, third in the IPL 2024 points table.

However, if they lose two of the three games, which will take them to 14 points only, then they might face the heat as there will be a few more sides that will have 14 points. The net run rate will come into picture, which as of now looks pretty sorted for CSK.

CSK’s next three games are against Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru respectively. They will play out the table toppers – RR – at their home venue in Chennai, and the other two games will be away from home.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 7 wickets in the 49th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. After being asked to bat first, CSK struggled against PBKS bowlers and could only manage a below-par total of 162 for 7, despite Ruturaj Gaikwad‘s commendable innings of 62 runs off 48 balls.

In response, PBKS easily chased the target in 17.5 overs, powered by impactful performances from Jonny Bairstow (46 off 30) and Rilee Rossouw (43 off 23). Following their win, PBKS took a jab at MS Dhoni on social media, sparking a buzz and generating mixed reactions from fans.

Punjab Kings pokes fun at MS Dhoni’s ‘Thala for a reason’ trend

Fans and notable figures have embraced a trend of associating the number 7 with Dhoni, owing to his jersey number. Joining the trend, PBKS took a dig at Dhoni and CSK humorously. Following their win against CSK, PBKS rose to seventh spot on the IPL points table. Regarding their position in the team standings, PBKS shared the points table on social media. They captioned the post, “Our position in the points table! Thala for a reason!”

Twitter reactions: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tushar Deshpande propel CSK to a thumping win over SRH | IPL 2024

In an emphatic display of cricketing prowess, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) outclassed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 46 of the Indian Premier League 2024, held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday. Winning by a substantial margin of 78 runs, CSK’s performance was a blend of solid batting and tight bowling, leaving the Sunrisers with little room to manoeuver.

    CSK Sets a Daunting Target

Electing to bowl first, SRH bowlers faced an immediate onslaught from CSK batters, who set a formidable total of 212/3 in their 20 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad was the standout performer, nearly reaching a century with 98 runs off 54 balls, including 10 fours and 3 sixes. His innings provided the backbone for CSK’s massive total. Daryl Mitchell also contributed significantly with a swift 52 off 32 deliveries, enhancing the team’s momentum with 7 fours and 1 six. Shivam Dube added quick runs towards the end, smashing 39 off 20 balls, propelled by 1 four and 4 sixes.

Sunrisers’ bowlers struggled to contain CSK’s hitters. Although Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat and T Natarajan managed to pick up a wicket each, their economy rates were on the higher side, with skipper Pat Cummins conceding 49 runs in his 4-over spell.

    SRH Crumbles Under Pressure

In response, SRH innings never really took off as they were bundled out for 134 in 18.5 overs. Aiden Markram tried to stabilize the innings with a composed 32 off 26 balls, but the regular loss of wickets kept the pressure mounting. Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad made small contributions of 20 and 19 runs, respectively, but CSK’s bowlers were simply too good on the day.

Tushar Deshpande was particularly lethal, claiming 4 wickets for 27 runs in his 3 overs. Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana also chipped in with crucial wickets, ensuring that the Sunrisers’ lineup was decimated without much resistance.

SRH, on the other hand, will need to regroup and reassess their strategies for the upcoming matches. The team will look to improve their bowling efficiency and find ways to build more resilience in their batting lineup.
