Jerry Jones: “We'll go play on a short week, we've done that before”

The Dallas Cowboys‘ victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will send the Texans to face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in Santa Clara, California, who will have two more days of rest since their first Playoff game was on Saturday, January 14, while the Cowboys played until Monday, January 16.

But the Cowboys’ owner doesn’t care about that, as he assures that his team is used to playing with fewer days of rest.

    They’ll come in against a well-rested 49ers

Dallas will play with only six days rest, which many fans on networks have called unfair, but not to Jones, who gave a clear answer when asked if the playoff schedule was “unfair” to his team.

“Not at all. Not at all,” Jones said, via PFT. “It’s what we’ve been dealt. We got to play in front of the whole country. We had an extra day to prepare for tonight. Thank goodness,” he noted.

He added that the team is used to it. “We’re going to play on a short week. We’ve done it Thanksgiving Day, we play short weeks …. I don’t see that as a disadvantage.”

Will try to repeat Rams’ feat last year

With the changes in the schedule due to the now famous Super Wild Card Weekend, last year the Los Angeles Rams played their Wild Card game on a Monday night as well and ended up Super Bowl champions. That’s what Jones wants to accomplish this year.

“We have a team here that has enough ability, in my opinion, to go win it,” Jones said. “And now we have some experiences that will build the intangibles,” he asserted.

If Cowboys make it to the Super Bowl and win it, it would be two consecutive years in which the Super Bowl winner would have to play on Monday night in the opening round. But first they have to beat the Niners at home.

Russell Gage's scary neck injury adds further gloom to Bucs finale, some call for Donovan Wilson suspension

Fans online are calling for a suspension of Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson. The Dallas safety hit Tampa Bay receiver Russell Gage in the back of the head late in the 4th quarter with a late hit in what many are deeming as un unnecessary ‘dirty’ play.

As a result of the play, when the game was already far out of reach for Tampa (who lost 31-14), Russell Gage was strapped to a backboard and carted off the field.

Gage slipped and fell to the turf while running a route and took a blow to the neck area as he went down. He was unable to get to his feet and silence fell over the stadium as players took a knee and medical personnel tended to him.

Players from both teams took a knee and prayed while medical personnel attended to Gage. Tom Brady, who threw the pass to Gage, stood near the medical staff before the game resumed.

Medical personnel took care of Gage for over 5 minutes

The medical personnel took care of Gage for over 5 minutes, in scenes hauntingly similar (though obviously not as dire) as the Damar Hamlin incident on Monday Night Football in Week 17.

The scene on the field became heart-wrenching when Gage appeared to try to get up but couldn’t and slammed his hand into the ground in frustration. The Bucaneers have not yet provide any detail on his injury.

NFL playoff picture: Bengals vs. Bills headlines Divisional Round matchups

Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals will visit the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, January 22 at Highmark Stadium. All eyes will be on this Divisional Round match following the way their last encounter ended.

The Week 17 meeting between Buffalo and Cincinnati was canceled after Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered a life-threatening condition. A collision with Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins left Hamlin hospitalized for a few days before making a full recovery.

Both teams are coming off narrow wins over lesser teams and will also be looking to finish what they started a couple weeks back.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen is 1-0 in his career against the Bengals and he will once again go up against Burrow for the “first time.” Kickoff is scheduled for 15:00 ET.

One more empty slot remains in the NFL Divisional Round schedule, but these other matches are already set.

Jaguars at Chiefs in AFC Divisional Round

The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Jacksonville Jaguars in the other AFC clash.

Patrick Mahomes and company will take the field at Arrowhead Stadium after a Bye week due to earning the No. 1 seed.

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is coming off an incredible comeback win over the Los Angeles Chargers, overcoming a 27-point deficit to reach the Divisional Round.

Kickoff between Kansas City and Jacksonville is scheduled for Saturday, January 21 at 16:30 ET.

    NFC Divisional Round matchups

The New York Giants visit the top-seeded Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday, January 21.

Kickoff is scheduled for 20:15 ET. Jalen Hurts will look to lead the Eagles past Daniel Jones and the Giants, who upset the Minnesota Vikings with an incredible performance.

The last Divisional Round game will take place at Levi’s Stadium and the San Francisco 49ers are waiting on its opponent.

Kickoff between the Niners and the winner of Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Dallas Cowboys is scheduled for Sunday, January 22.

  • Jerry Jones dismisses Tom Brady factor: “We're playing Tampa Bay, the team”

Jerry Jones dismisses Tom Brady factor: “We're playing Tampa Bay, the team”

In addition to not winning a Divisional Playoff game since the 1995 season, there’s something else the Dallas Cowboys have never been able to do: beat Tom Brady in a game. Neither when he was with the New England Patriots nor now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers: the Bucs’ No. 12 has a 7-0 record against Dallas, which he will look to increase next Monday to 8-0.

But that stat doesn’t worry Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who noted in a radio interview that while the Tom Brady factor is something to take into consideration, he believes his team can go out and “beat up” on the Bucs on the road.

Jones hopes to beat Buccaneers on Wild Card Weekend

Next Monday actually begins the season for the Cowboys, who haven’t won a Divisional game since 1995, the last time they reached the NFC championship game and the last time they won the Super Bowl.

Since then, Dallas has been unable to advance past the Divisional round, despite several home games at AT&T Stadium. But Jones expects that to change this year:

“Well, we’re at their home. Brady is a factor, but you know when you really think about it, we’re not playing Brady. We’re playing Tampa Bay, the team. And it’s conceivable that we could make Brady not play well and get their tails beat by the rest of the team.

“This Brady thing has got to be sensitive. I know it’s there, and I respect that. Gives us a challenge to do something we haven’t done before and that’s beat Tom Brady”, Jones said.

    Brady’s got the Cowboys’ measure

During his legendary career, Tom Brady has faced the Cowboys seven times, winning each time. Here are the games in which TB12 has beaten the Lone Star team:

    With the Pats:

    2003 (Week 11)

    2007 (Week 6)

    2011 (Week 6)

    2015 (Week 5)

    2019 (Week 12)

    With the Bucs:

    2021 (Week 1)

    2022 (Week 1)

Brady and the Cowboys have never met in the Playoffs, so Jones’ team has a chance to break that streak once and for all, though fate doesn’t seem to be in their favor.

  • The strange pattern that could give the Cowboys a Super Bowl victory this year

The strange pattern that could give the Cowboys a Super Bowl victory this year

Wearing your lucky socks, partaking in superstitious rituals, and clinging to any statistic that gives you hope that your team will win it all can all be part of the sports fan experience. This particular fact is for you, crazy Dallas Cowboys fans.

The Cowboys lost to the Washington Commanders 26-6 on Sunday to conclude the regular season 12-5, which was about as sloppy as they could have desired. They are one of the three wild-card playoff clubs in the NFC.

But this is just a continuation of a pattern that began with the team’s first game of the season on September 11, 2022.

The Cowboys hypothetically should be in position for another quartet of victories if they carry on with this puzzling trend.

Dallas would advance all the way to the Super Bowl with those hypothetical four wins, as they must play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild card game on Monday.

But this is just a continuation of a pattern that began with the team’s first game of the season on September 11, 2022.

What will it take for the Cowboys to win the Super Bowl?

Although this is obviously coincidental and only somewhat important, it does demonstrate the Cowboys’ capacity to recover from a setback. Dallas hasn’t dropped two straight games all season. The only other NFL playoff clubs that can make the claim are the Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings.

Three of the Cowboys’ four victories after their four losses came against playoff opponents before to the Washington game (Cincinnati Bengals, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles).

On Sunday, there were numerous and early indicators of conflict. The Cowboys demonstrated in their first two possessions that they weren’t prepared to compete for the NFC’s top place.

Bryan Anger, the punter, botched a perfectly excellent snap and was unable to recover in time to kick the ball or run for a first down, which gave the Commanders possession deep inside Dallas territory.

Sam Howell, a rookie NFL starter, finally comfortably defeated the Cowboys. The Cowboys had something to play for, but their attitude toward the game was unclear.

But starting on Monday, it will be time to see whether this pattern hints at some sort of destiny or if it’s just another cause to give people false optimism that will eventually be dashed.

  • Eagles celebrate NFC's #1 seed, divisional title and the much-needed return of Jalen Hurts

Eagles celebrate NFC's #1 seed, divisional title and the much-needed return of Jalen Hurts

The Philadelphia Eagles put on the excitement and took two weeks longer than budgeted, however, they achieved the inevitable, the NFC East title and the #1 seed in the Conference by defeating the New York Giants this Sunday by a score of 22-16 during week 18, the last week of the NFL regular season.

In addition to the win and the aforementioned accomplishments, the Eagles also celebrated the return to the starting lineup of quarterback Jalen Hurts, who had been injured and was absent in Philadelphia’s last two games, both losses with Gardner Minshew taking his place.

Jalen Hurts and his resounding message, “I’m Back”

Before the start of the game, Hurts was seen warming up with a t-shirt that had a very blunt message “I’m back” written on it, filling Eagles fans with hope, who have witnessed another trip to the playoffs, having been there in five of the last six seasons.

The game was tighter than assumed for the Eagles, who held as much as a 19-point lead against Giants who decided to sit their starters since their 6-seed would not change no matter what the outcome of Week 18.

The Eagles would have won the NFC East even if they lost this Sunday, as at the same time, the Dallas Cowboys, who still had hopes of stealing the divisional crown, were stunned by a 26-6 loss at the home of the Washington Commanders.

What’s next for the Eagles and Giants?

While Philadelphia (14-3) will have a much-needed bye week in the Wild Card Round, New York (9-7-1) will have to visit the Minnesota Vikings next weekend with the intention of reaching the Divisional Round for the first time since the distant 2011 season when they beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI 11 years ago.

  • Cowboys owner Jerry Jones forced to take paternity test as 26-year-old woman claims to be his daughter

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones forced to take paternity test as 26-year-old woman claims to be his daughter

A judge has ordered Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to take a paternity test as part of a legal dispute with a 26-year-old woman who claims the billionaire is her biological father.

A Texas judge issued the order for genetic testing Thursday in a paternity case brought by Alexandra Davis, who previously alleged in a separate lawsuit she was conceived from a relationship Jones had with her mother in the mid-1990s.

Attorneys for Jones did not immediately respond to requests for comment Friday, but said in court filings that they intend to appeal the decision. One of Davis’ lawyers, Andrew Bergman, confirmed the decision, but did not immediately offer any other comment. In March, Davis sued Jones in Dallas County, asking a judge to void a legal agreement she said her mother, Cynthia Davis, reached with Jones two years after she was born. The 1998 settlement allegedly said that Jones would support them financially as long as they didn’t publicly say he was Alexandra’s father – something the married owner of the Cowboys denied.

Davis dropped that case in April, saying that she would instead seek to prove that Jones is her father. She filed the paternity case that month.

On Thursday, Associate Judge T. Jones Abendroth wrote that “after careful consideration” she would grant Davis’ motion to have Jones undergo genetic testing.

Jones and his wife, Gene have three children

The 80-year-old Jones and his wife, Gene, were married in 1963. They have three children, and all have front office roles with the Cowboys. Jerry Jones is the team president and general manager.

Davis’ original lawsuit claimed that Jones “pursued” Cynthia Davis, who was also married at the time, after they met while she was working for American Airlines out of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Their settlement allegedly called for Jones to pay Cynthia Davis $375,000 and for Alexandra Davis to receive a “certain monthly, annual and special funding” from a trust until she was 21, as well as lump sum payments when she turned 24, 26 and 28.

  • Former Denver Broncos RB and Super Bowl 50 champion is fighting for his life in a hospice

Former Denver Broncos RB and Super Bowl 50 champion is fighting for his life in a hospice

Ronnie Hillman, who was chosen in 2012 by the Denver Broncos as running back, is fighting for his life in a hospice, after suffering from a rare form of cancer. This was made known by one of his former Broncos teammates, Orlando Franklin, who asked the team’s fans for their prayers for the former RB.

Hillman is just 31 years old

“He’s in hospice and not doing well,” Franklin said, while another of his former teammates, Derek Wolfe, conformed that Ronnie is battling “bad liver cancer.”

“It’s not looking good,” Wolfe said on 104.3 The Fan on Tuesday. “He has pneumonia and I’m putting him in there just to send positive vibes his way.”

Hillman played for Denver from 2012 to 2015, and was part of the team that won Super Bowl 50, along with Peyton Manning. Wolfe remembered him as a “great soccer player, great person, great teammate” and “an overall great guy.”

Hillman is a graduate of San Diego State, and during his time in the NFL he played for teams such as the Minnesota Vikings, San Diego Chargers and Dallas Cowboys.

The cancer he suffers from is rare and very aggressive

So far, Hillman’s family issued a statement reporting that Ronnie was diagnosed with renal medullary medullary carcinoma, a “rare but very aggressive form of cancer neoplasm that primarily affects young African-American men with sickle cell trait” last August.

“As a family, we hope beyond hope, and we have a faith that can move mountains. We also understand that God’s will is not always ours; therefore, as a family we submit to the will of our Almighty God.”

“We need your prayers, but we also need your understanding and respect for Ronnie and our family’s privacy at this time,” the statement said.

  • Eagles officially clinched the playoffs, Cowboy and Lions move closer to postseason

Eagles officially clinched the playoffs, Cowboy and Lions move closer to postseason

The Philadelphia Eagles are 12-1 after defeating the New York Giants in North Jersey on Sunday afternoon. Final score: 48 to 22.

With the win, the Eagles officially clinched a spot in the 2023 NFL playoffs.

Jalen Hurts (21/31, 217 yards, 2 TDs, 7 runs, 77 yards, 1 TD) has further solidified his MVP candidacy. Very inspired on the long game, the thrower made the New York defensive backs see all the colors, completely lost on the field. As usual, the faithful helpers AJ Brown (4 receptions, 70 yards, 1 TD) and Devonta Smith (5 receptions, 64 yards, 1 TD) answered the call, while Miles Sanders (17 runs, 144 yards, 2 TD) rolled over the New York defense.

Dallas comes from behind to defeat Texans

In a much more difficult game than expected, the Dallas Cowboys suffered. And suffered. They made mistakes. They did everything to lose. However, in the end, the sun came out for the team that played at home on Sunday. With a spectacular drive at the end, the team managed to triumph against the Houston Texans by 27 to 23 in the final seconds. It was the 10th win of the season, the fourth in a row for the team.

Dak Prescott was intercepted twice and was not at his best. He left the game with 24 of 39 passes for 284 yards and a touchdown. The always efficient Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard were present. The former rushed for 62 yards and scored the winning TD. The second, on the other hand, rushed for 42 yards and scored a ground TD. Not satisfied, he also contributed with another air TD.

The Texans, on the other hand, proved why they have 11 losses in the league. The team had everything to win the duel. Coach Lovie Smith mixed the use of QBs Jeff Driskel and Davis Mills. The former managed 175 yards and one interception. The latter at least threw a touchdown. Dameon Pierce ran for 78 yards and scored a TD. The highlight was Tremon Smith who left the game with two interceptions in his account.

Detroit Lions with the illusion of making the playoffs

The Detroit Lions hosted their NFC North rival Minnesota Vikings in Week 14, and got their sixth win of the season. QB Jared Goff had an excellent game and caught 27/39 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns. WR DJ Chark was Goff’s most productive target and finished the game with six receptions on seven targets, 94 yards and a touchdown.

On the Vikings’ side, Kirk Cousins recorded 30/40 passing yards for 405 yards and two touchdowns. Justin Jefferson, meanwhile, had the longest game of his career. He had 213 yards on ten receptions.

With the victory, the Lions go to 6-7 and strengthen their fight for a playoff spot. The team faces the New York Jets next Sunday (18). The Vikings, despite the setback, remain first in the NFC North with 10-3. In Week 15, Minnesota receives the Indianapolis Colts.

Cincinnati Benglas continue in the fight for the division

Paul Brown Stadium hosted the divisional match-up between the Cincinnati Bengals (9-4) and the Cleveland Browns (5-8). The home team was able to dominate from the second quarter on to come away with the 23-10 victory.

Joe Burrow finished the day with 18/33, 239 yards, 2 TDs, INT. Deshaun Watson, in his second game as a starter, completed 26/42, 276 yards, TD, INT. Worth highlighting is Ja’Marr Chase, who completed the duel with 10 rec for 119 yards and TD.
