Watch: Harshit Rana loses his temper, slams reporter for taking interview post-CT 2025 win

India fast bowler Harshit Rana arrived at his home city Delhi on Monday night after the team’s historic Champions Trophy 2025 triumph at Dubai the previous day. However, he was surrounded by a new controversy as soon as he landed in Delhi.

A journalist wanted to take Harshit Rana’s interview and asked him questions. But a frustrated Rana asked the reporter not to take the interview as he looked tired after a long travel.

Rana further told the reporter that he felt nice after being a part of India’s winning Champions Trophy campaign. He soon sat down at his car without answering any more questions from the reporters.

Another talking point here was Harshit Rana’s cold reception at the airport despite the other players receiving a grand welcome from their fans and supporters. Rana had left for Delhi with India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir, who also hails from the same city.

Earlier, players like KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma received warm reception in Mumbai upon their arrival in India. The crowd gathered in numbers to get a glimpse of their favorite cricketers and welcomed the champions.

Harshit Rana’s performance in CT 2025

Harshit Rana was a part of India’s 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy. The fast bowler played the first two matches of the tournament against Bangladesh and Pakistan but was rested for the third game against New Zealand.

The Indian team management decided to rest a young Rana as they had already secured a place in the semi-finals. Varun Chakravarthy replaced him in the Playing XI and the mystery spinner soon made an immediate impact.

Chakravarthy picked up a fantastic five-wicket haul in just his second ODI match which forced the Indian team to change their team combination for the semi-final and the final. Chakravarthy proved to be the X-factor and further emerged as the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament despite not playing the first two games.

Meanwhile, Rana picked up 4 wickets in two matches at an average of 15.25 and a miserly economy rate of 3.97. He was earlier brought into the team to replace an injured Jasprit Bumrah.

Rohit Sharma leads from the front

India clinched the Champions Trophy after a gap of 12 years. The last time they won this tournament was in 2013 under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

In the final, India defeated a spirited New Zealand team by 4 wickets. New Zealand tried their best but fell out of resources in the end and India made full use of it.

Rohit Sharma played a captain’s knock in the final and led his team from the front. Rohit scored 76 off 83 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes and helped India get a flying start which laid the platform for the middle order.

Harshit Rana Misses India vs New Zealand Match 12: Reasons Explained

India and New Zealand will play the last group-stage match of 2025 Champions Trophy at the Dubai International Stadium on March 2. Both the teams have been unbeaten in the tournament so far and this will be a battle to take the top spot in the group.

The last time these two teams faced in an ICC tournament was the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 where the two sides played a high-scoring semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium. The winner of March 2 clash will face Australia while the loser will be up against South Africa.

    Toss Update

New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl first. They brought in Daryl Mitchell in place of Devon Conway. On the other hand the Indian team also made an interesting change by bringing in Varun Chakravarthy in place of Harshit Rana.

Varun Chakarvarthy joins in place of Harshit Rana

Rohit Sharma confirmed that the team has decided to rest Harshit Rana replaced the pacer with mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who will be making his debut in a 50-over ICC event. The Indian team will go into the match with four spin options in the form of Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja and Chakravarthy.

What did the captains say at the toss?

    Rohit Sharma (India)

Was anyway looking to bat first, wanted to see what we could do upfront and then challenge our bowlers since we chased on both games. Approach will be very similar to the previous games, just trying to do the same things. One change for us – Harshit has been rested, Varun is playing for us. It is all about bowling in partnerships, in both games we have combined to pick 19 wickets. Our spinners have restricted them well and then the seamers have got the wickets.

    Mitchell Santner (New Zealand)

We’ll have a bowl first, looks like a good wicket. Want to put some pressure early and hopefully it skids on well later. We still want to win, we know we are going to be in Lahore later but first task is to do a job here, and challenge ourselves in different conditions. Daryl Mitchell comes in, Conway misses this one.

    Playing XIs:

    India:

Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy.

    New Zealand:

Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (wk), Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner (c), Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, William ORourke.

Netizens react as clinical India whitewash England in the ODI series

India wrapped up the ODI series in emphatic fashion, securing a commanding 142-run victory over England in the third and final ODI of the England tour of India 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The hosts showcased a complete performance, with a scintillating century from Shubman Gill and an all-round bowling effort sealing the series whitewash.

    India sets a mammoth target

After England won the toss and opted to bowl first, India made the most of the conditions with a solid batting display, posting a formidable 356 in 50 overs. Despite an early setback with Rohit Sharma departing for just 1 run, Shubman Gill led the charge with a brilliant 112 off 102 balls, smashing 14 boundaries and three sixes.

Virat Kohli provided solid support with a steady 52 off 55 balls, while Shreyas Iyer accelerated the scoring rate with a fluent 78 off 64 deliveries. KL Rahul contributed a quickfire 40 off 29 balls, while Hardik Pandya (17 off 9) and the lower order chipped in to push India past the 350-run mark. Adil Rashid was the pick of England’s bowlers, claiming four wickets for 64 runs in his 10-over spell.

    England falters in the run-chase

Chasing a daunting target of 357, England’s innings never gained the required momentum. Philip Salt (23 off 21) and Ben Duckett (34 off 22) gave England a decent start, but wickets fell at regular intervals. Tom Banton fought hard with 38 off 41 balls, but the middle-order collapse left England reeling.

Joe Root (24 off 29) and Harry Brook (19 off 26) failed to capitalize on their starts, and captain Jos Buttler managed only 6 runs before being dismissed. A late flourish from Gus Atkinson, who smashed 38 off just 19 deliveries, was not enough to save England, as they were bowled out for 214 in 34.2 overs.

India’s bowlers executed their plans perfectly, dismantling the English batting lineup with precision. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana led the charge, both claiming two wickets each, while Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya also bagged two wickets apiece. Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar chipped in with a wicket each, ensuring England never recovered from their batting collapse.

Twitter reactions: India takes a 1-0 series lead as Shubman Gill stars in four-wicket win over England in Nagpur ODI

India clinched a resounding four-wicket victory over England in the first ODI at Nagpur, successfully chasing down a target of 249 with 68 balls to spare. The chase was anchored by Shubman Gill, who played a composed and match-defining innings of 87 runs off 96 balls, showing remarkable patience and skill. India’s bowlers had set up the victory by limiting England to a modest total. Ravindra Jadeja, the standout performer with the ball, claimed three wickets for just 26 run.  The win gives India a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, as they look to extend their dominance in the coming games.

England’s innings: Promising start derailed by Indian bowlers’ precision

England’s innings began on a positive note, with Phil Salt providing early fireworks, smashing 43 runs off just 26 balls. Alongside him, Jacob Bethell looked steady, contributing a crucial 51 runs. However, England struggled to convert their early momentum into a substantial total as India’s bowlers tightened their grip. Jadeja was exceptional with the ball, creating pressure and taking key wickets, while Harshit Rana followed up with a clinical spell, claiming three wickets and leaving England’s lower order exposed. Despite a valiant 52 from Jos Buttler, who remained the backbone of England’s innings, the constant fall of wickets meant England’s total was restricted to 248 all out in 47.4 overs. India’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding meant that the England batters could never find their rhythm, leaving them well short of a competitive total.

India’s chase: Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer steer India through with ease

India’s chase began with a few early hiccups, as Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma fell cheaply to leave the hosts at 23/2. However, Gill rose to the occasion, providing the necessary stability at the crease. His 87-run knock was the foundation of India’s chase, as he combined elegant strokes with controlled aggression to keep the run rate in check. At the other end, Shreyas Iyer played a blistering cameo, scoring a rapid 59 off 36 balls, adding a much-needed acceleration to the chase. With the Indian middle order firing, including Axar Patel’s composed 52 not out, the chase was comfortably within reach. India completed the target in 38.4 overs, with Gill’s anchoring presence and Iyer’s quickfire knock ensuring there were no further setbacks. The Indian team’s calm and calculated approach saw them across the line with relative ease, securing a dominant position in the series.

Netizens go berserk as Ravi Bishnoi, Harshit Rana lead India to a series-clinching win over England in 4th T20I

India registered a hard-fought 15-run victory over England in the fourth T20I at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, sealing the series 3-1 with one match to spare. After posting 181/9, India’s bowlers, led by Ravi Bishnoi and debutant Harshit Rana, delivered a clinical performance to bowl out England for 166 in 19.4 overs. This win marked India’s 17th consecutive T20I series triumph at home, further reinforcing their dominance in the shortest format. Notably, Harshit was introduced as a concussion substitute for Shivam Dube in the second innings, a move that proved decisive in India’s favour.

Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya’s counterattack rescues India from top-order collapse

India’s batting innings began on a disastrous note, with the hosts reeling at 12/3 within two overs. Saqib Mahmood’s triple strike sent Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav back to the pavilion for ducks, while Sanju Samson managed just one run before perishing. However, Abhishek Sharma and Rinku Singh attempted a partial recovery before the duo of Dube and Hardik Pandya turned the tide. Dube’s 53 off 34 balls, featuring seven fours and two sixes, provided much-needed stability, while Pandya’s explosive 53 off 30 balls, laced with four fours and four sixes, ensured India reached a competitive 181/9 despite losing wickets at regular intervals.

Chasing 182, England got off to a flying start, with Ben Duckett’s 19-ball 39 propelling them to 62/1 in the powerplay. However, Bishnoi’s twin strikes removed Duckett and captain Jos Buttler in quick succession, putting India back in control. Harry Brook fought back with a blistering 51 off 26 balls, but wickets continued to tumble at crucial junctures. Debutant Rana, brought in as a concussion substitute, made an instant impact by dismissing Liam Livingstone and Jacob Bethell, before cleaning up Jamie Overton to finish with 3/33. Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh also claimed crucial wickets, ensuring that England fell 15 runs short of the target.

WATCH: Floodlight failure interrupts India vs Australia pink-ball Test in Adelaide

The scenes in Adelaide turn darker as the lights completely turn off during the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide. The commentators have a fun conversation as they discuss the events that took place during that moment as well.

Some of the most bizarre instances the people got to witness during the day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25). The first day of the second Test at Adelaide was dominated by the Aussies so far. Team India were bowled out by the Australian pacers for a modest score of 180.

When Australia came out to bat, they ended the day on a positive note with batters Marnus Labuschagne and Nathan Mcsweeney remaining unbeaten at the crease with the score reading 86/1 at stumps. Currently, the hosts are trailing by 94 runs.

Though this was more or less a one-sided day with the hosts at the helm of affairs, there were some bizarre moments the fans and the players got to witness during the day/night Test. Notably, during the game, the floodlights started to act up as they went off and then got restored. The same incident took place yet again in a matter of a few minutes. As a result, this got all the players frustrated, especially the Indian pacer Harshit Rana.

While the drama unfolded, the commentators while on air, started to entertain each other by just joking about the turn of events and it all started with Harsha Bhogle exclaiming if someone had fallen asleep. The former Australia opener turned commentator, David Warner too chimed in and joked about the incident by saying that probably someone had forgotten to pay the electricity bills.

“Someone hasn’t paid their bills here,” said Warner cheekily while commentating.

Harshit Rana picked as India’s third pacer for the Perth Test

Harshit Rana was picked as the third pace-bowling option by the India team management for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 opener.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, being the two seniors, automatically selected themselves in the playing XI, and the battle was between Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, and Akash Deep for the third seamer’s slot.

Although Krishna and Akash had prior Test cricket experience, Indian team management decided to go with Harshit, and the youngster was handed his debut cap.

He looked good with the ball and bowled tight lines and lengths. In the first innings, Rana picked up a 3-wicket haul, including the wicket of India’s nemesis Travis Head. Overall, he bowled 15.2 overs and conceded 48 runs.

Jassi bhai (Jasprit Bumrah) kept telling me what to do and Virat bhai also gave advice – Harshit Rana

Speaking at a press conference after the end of the play on Day 2, the 22-year-old revealed that Bumrah and Kohli kept giving him advice, which helped him a lot.

“Jassi bhai (Jasprit Bumrah) kept telling me what to do and Virat bhai also gave advice. These things helps a lot. Jassi Bhai or Virat bhai, whoever came on, they kept giving me inputs as to what should be done in bowling, where to put the ball, where not to put it. So that thing brought a different confidence in myself that ‘yes they are telling me then I will do well’,” Rana said.

He also admitted that the dominating performance by Jasprit Bumrah with the ball at the start made things easier for him. Rana said:

“His spell made things easier for me. I became calmer. Jassi bhaiya always creates pressure from one end, and that makes it easier for the bowler at the other end.”

The idea was to attack the stumps and I got the wicket – Harshit Rana

The explosive batsman Travis Head has played several sensational knocks against India and there was a possibility of him troubling India once again in the Perth Test.

However, Harshit Rana didn’t let that happen and on the first ball of the 12th over, he rattled the stumps of the batter with a brilliant delivery.

Meanwhile, Rana revealed that he planned to attack the stumps of the batter, and it brought him success.

“The idea was to attack the stumps and I got the wicket. In the team meeting, we had made some plans, and I stuck to it,” Harshit told the media.

While talking about his debut, the pacer revealed that the team management informed him of the news a day before the Test match, and he got quite emotional.

“I got to know on the previous day of the Test and I did cry after making a speech in the meeting,” he said.
