    The MLB All-Star Game at Globe Life Field saw a standout moment as country singer Cody Johnson delivered a flawless rendition of the national anthem. His performance, marked by a distinct twang and performed a capella, garnered enthusiastic applause from fans and provided a sense of relief for the league.

    Johnson, a Texas native and iHeartRadio’s 2023 Best New Country Artist, stepped into the spotlight following the previous day’s controversy. Ingrid Andress had performed the anthem at the Home Run Derby but faced widespread criticism. Andress later apologized, revealing she was intoxicated during the performance and announced her decision to enter rehab.

    “I’m not gonna bulls-t y’all, I was drunk last night,” Andress admitted on social media. “I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let y’all know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun.”

    Andress ranked among one of the worst performances ever

    Her performance was compared unfavorably to some of the most criticized renditions of the anthem at sporting events, prompting MLB to select Johnson, who had previously performed the anthem at the 2019 World Series.

    Johnson, known for his strong connection to Texas, also showcased his baseball skills earlier this year, throwing out the first pitch and participating in batting practice at a Rangers-Mariners game on April 23.
