Bangladesh Playing 11 vs India- ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Match 2

Bangladesh will be facing favorites India in their first game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The clash will be the second of the tournament and is set to take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday (February 20).

Bangladesh have not done well in ODIs in recent times. They have managed to win just one of their last five ODI series. Last year, they lost the ODI series against Afghanistan and West Indies and will need something special to beat in-form India.

As Bangladesh looks to cause an upset in the Champions Trophy, we are taking a look at Bangladesh Playing 11 for their game against India.

Bangladesh Playing 11 vs India- ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Match 2:

Openers: Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Soumya Sarkar

Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar are expected to be the openers in the Bangladesh Playing 11 for the upcoming game. Both the players will look to counter India’s formidable attack and give their team a good start with the bat.

Tanzid had a good outing in the three-match ODI series against West Indies in December. He began the series with knocks of 60 and 46 before registering a duck in the final game.

Unlike Tanzid, Sarkar struggled for runs against the Caribbean outfit early on but managed to finish the series on a good note.

The left-handed batsman registered scores of 19 and 2 in the first two ODIs before scoring 73 runs in the third game. Sarkar is more experienced than Tanzid and Bangladesh will be hoping that he delivers with the bat at the top of the order.

Middle-order batsmen and allrounders: Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, Jaker Ali (wk), Rishad Hossain

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto will be keen to lead his side from the front in the upcoming game. He missed the series against West Indies and recently struggled with the bat in the Bangladesh Premier League. Shanto will be eyeing a better display with the bat in the Champions Trophy.

In Shanto’s absence, Mehidy Hasan Miraz had led Bangladesh against the West Indies. Even though Bangladesh lost the series, Mehidy managed to impress with the bat. He registered knocks of 74, 1, and 77 in the series and will look to contribute with the bat against India as well.

Highly-rated batsman Towhid Hridoy will also be a key player in the Bangladesh Playing 11. Hridoy has played 33 ODIs so far and scored 877 runs with the help of seven half-centuries.

Veteran batsman Mahmudullah will be another key member in the Bangladesh Playing 11. The right-handed batsman was in sublime form against West Indies and finished the three-match series as the highest run-scorer. In three games, he scored 196 runs and will look to deliver with the bat against India as well.

While former captain Mushfiqur Rahim is in the squad, Jaker Ali could get the nod ahead of him in the Bangladesh Playing after his impressive display against West Indies. He had scored 113 runs against West Indies in the three-match series. Rishad Hossain is expected to be the allrounder in the Bangladesh Playing 11.

Bowlers: Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Nasum Ahmed

Bangladesh are likely to play the game with two fast bowlers and a spinner. Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman are set to be the two frontline pacers while Nasum Ahmed is expected to be the sole specialist spinner in Bangladesh Playing 11.

IND vs BAN Match Preview- ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Match 2

India and Bangladesh will be facing each other in the second game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The match is scheduled to be played on Thursday (February 20) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

In the last edition of the Champions Trophy, India and Bangladesh faced each other in the semifinal. India had completely outplayed Bangladesh in that game, winning it by nine wickets. While Bangladesh had posted a competitive total of 264/7, India had chased it down with utmost ease and lost just one wicket.

India’s current captain Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten century in that game and will be eyeing a similar performance in the upcoming game. So, as Bangladesh and India get ready to take on each other, we are taking a look at the IND vs BAN match preview.

IND vs BAN Match Preview- ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Match 2:

IND vs BAN Date and Venue:

The upcoming IND vs BAN match will be played on Thursday (February 20) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. The match will be played from 02:30 PM (IST).

    Squads:

    India:

Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakaravarthy

    Bangladesh:

Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Parvez Hossain Emon, Tawhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmud Ullah, Jaker Ali Anik, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rishad Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Nahid Rana

    IND vs BAN key battles:

    Rohit Sharma vs Mustafizur Rahman:

Rohit Sharma will be one of India’s main players in the tournament. In the last two ICC events, Rohit led the team from the very front and will be keen to do so in the upcoming competition as well. Under his captaincy, India made it to the final of the 2023 World Cup and won the 2024 T20 World Cup.

With the team now eyeing Champions Trophy glory, the onus will be on Rohit to deliver with the bat. The India captain, however, has not looked at his best in recent times. Although he recently scored a century against England, he was out for single-digit scores in the other two games.

With Rohit struggling with his rhythm, Bangladesh will be hoping that their pace spearhead Mustafizur Rahman gets his wicket early. Rohit usually struggles against left-arm pacers and Mustafizur will be fancying his chances.

    Mahmudullah vs Kuldeep Yadav:

Mahmudullah will be a big threat for Team India in the upcoming IND vs BAN match. The veteran batsman has been one of Bangladesh’s key players for more than a decade now and his team will be relying on him heavily once again.

The right-handed batsman can not only anchor the innings but can also play the big shots whenever the situation demands. In Bangladesh’s last ODI assignment which was the three-match ODI series in West Indies, he was the highest run-scorer.

India will be well aware of the threat posed by Mahmudullah and will be hoping that their spin spearhead Kuldeep Yadav dismisses him as early as possible.

    Shreyas Iyer vs Nasum Ahmed:

Bangladesh will have their task cut out against Shreyas Iyer and will be relying on their spinner Nasum Ahmed for his wicket. He recently picked up 13 wickets in the Bangladesh Premier League and will be hoping to get the big wicket of Iyer as well.

The India batsman was in sublime form during the three-match ODI series against England. In three games, he registered scores of 59, 44, and 78 and will be eyeing a good outing against Bangladesh too.

    IND vs BAN Key Players

IND – Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja will be the key players for India.

BAN – Najmul Hossain Shanto, Soumya Sarkar, Tawhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali Anik, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mahmudullah, and Taskin Ahmed will be the key players for Bangladesh.

IND vs BAN Weather And Pitch Report:

Rain is unlikely to play spoilsport during the IND vs BAN match. The temperature will be hovering in the 20s throughout the match.

The pitch at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium is expected to be slow and it won’t be easy for the batters to play their shots.

Both the teams will also like to chase at the venue because of the record. Out of the 58 ODIs played at the venue so far, only 22 have been won by teams batting first.

    Conclusion:

India and Bangladesh will be keen to start their Champions Trophy campaign on a winning note. India have momentum with them and they will look to make the most of it.

Bangladesh have not done well in recent times but are more than capable of springing a surprise or two now and then.

Twitter Reactions: Sanju Samson, bowlers lead India to 3-0 whitewash over Bangladesh in T20I series

India delivered a commanding performance, overwhelming Bangladesh by 133 runs in the third and final T20I to secure a 3-0 series sweep. The match, played in Hyderabad on Saturday (October 12), saw India setting a monumental total of 297/6, the highest ever by a full-member nation in T20I history. This remarkable feat left Bangladesh with an insurmountable task in what was essentially a dead rubber. India’s dominance from start to finish underscored their superiority in the shortest format of the game.

Sanju Samson’s record-breaking batting display in Hyderabad

India’s batting onslaught was led by Sanju Samson, who etched his name into the record books as the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score a T20I century. His sensational innings of 111 off just 47 balls overshadowed even Suryakumar Yadav, who also played a blistering knock Suryakumar contributed a blistering 75 from 35 deliveries, showcasing his usual flair, while Hardik Pandya’s explosive 47 off 18 provided the late flourish that pushed India’s total to a record-breaking 297/6. The relentless aggression throughout the innings not only set a new team benchmark but also left Bangladesh in disarray, struggling to comprehend the magnitude of their task.

Bangladesh’s inconsistent response: India’s bowlers seal the deal

Facing an almost impossible target, Bangladesh began their chase with some intent but quickly faltered as wickets tumbled regularly. Although Towhid Hridoy stood out with a fighting, unbeaten 63, his lone effort was not enough to stem the tide of India’s dominance. The chase lost steam after a promising start, with key wickets falling at crucial moments. However, they could only manage 164/7 in their 20 overs, never coming close to the massive target, effectively sealing their defeat.

Defending a mammoth total, India’s bowlers showed no signs of complacency and executed their plans with precision. Ravi Bishnoi, making a strong comeback into the T20I side, was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets and breaking through Bangladesh’s fragile resistance. Mayank Yadav, who featured in all three matches of the series, supported well with two wickets of his own. Throughout the game India’s bowlers and fielders remained sharp, maintaining high standards throughout. This clinical bowling performance added the finishing touch to what was a dominant all-round display by the Indian team.

Twitter Reactions: Hardik Pandya Arshdeep Singh shine in India’s emphatic win over Bangladesh in the 1st T20I

The Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian side secured a dominant seven-wicket win against Bangladesh in the opening T20I of the three-match series held in Gwalior on October 6. The match, hosted at the newly inaugurated Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium, saw the Indian team effortlessly chase down a modest target of 128 in just 11.5 overs, leaving a staggering 49 deliveries unused. This remarkable victory set a new benchmark for India, recording their biggest margin in terms of balls remaining while pursuing a total over 100, surpassing their previous best of 41 balls against Zimbabwe in 2016.

Bowlers steal the show: Arshdeep Singh and Mayank Yadav shine

India’s resounding win was set up by a stellar performance from their bowlers, led by Arshdeep Singh, along with debutant Mayank Yadav and comeback star Varun Chakravarthy. Mayank, making his much-anticipated international debut, showcased his raw pace and ability. The 22-year-old, renowned for his consistent 150 kmph deliveries in the IPL, delivered a fiery spell, returning figures of 1/21. His maiden international wicket came when he dismissed veteran Mahmudullah, who mistimed a shot to Washington Sundar at deep point. Concerns about his fitness were put to rest as Mayank clocked speeds of 145+ kmph in his initial overs.

Returning to the side after nearly three years, Varun proved his mettle with a superb 3/31. The mystery spinner’s variations and control troubled the Bangladeshi batters, claiming the crucial scalps of Jaker Ali and Towhid Hridoy. Despite a costly start, Varun quickly adapted, ensuring Bangladesh could only muster 127. Complementing these efforts, Arshdeep’s left-arm pace delivered a clinical 3/14, dismantling the top order with early wickets in the powerplay, including Litton Das and Parvez Hossain Emon.

Efficient chase led by Hardik Pandya’s quick knock

India’s pursuit of the target was swift and precise, thanks to aggressive knocks from Suryakumar (29), Sanju Samson (29) and a finishing flourish from Hardik Pandya (39*). The chase was wrapped up in 11.5 overs, cementing India’s series lead and marking the return of international cricket to Gwalior after a 14-year hiatus. With the new venue making its international debut, India’s comprehensive win laid a strong foundation for the remainder of the series. Their disciplined bowling and explosive batting provided little opportunity for Bangladesh to recover, establishing India’s dominance early on.

Will Mayank Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy feature in India’s 11? Former Indian player reveals

Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra said that the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh has thrown up a major selection dilemma for the Indian cricket team management, as they face tough decisions about playing XI.

With three promising young talents, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Mayank Yadav, awaiting their potential debuts, the competition for spots is intense, as experienced players like Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, and the comeback man Varun Chakravarthy are also in line to play.

Aakash Chopra backs Mayank Yadav for India debut and Varun Chakravarthy to get game vs Bangladesh

Aakash Chopra mentioned that Mayank Yadav is fast-tracked into the Indian squad despite his recent injury struggles after a stellar IPL 2024, so he is going to make his India debut in the first T20I against Bangladesh on Sunday, October 6, at the Gwalior International Cricket Stadium.

Mayank Yadav’s raw pace and aggression have earned him significant attention, with many seeing him as a potential game-changer for the Men in Blue.

On the other hand, Varun Chakravarthy’s return to the national team after a three-year hiatus has also created a buzz, especially given his impressive performance in IPL 2024, which led to his recall.

Varun Chakravarthy’s unorthodox spin could add a layer of mystery to India’s bowling attack, and Chopra reckoned that Varun is not recalled to the T20I squad to warm the bench, as he feels the spinner is also sure to play in the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh at home.

Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar are in line to play against Bangladesh

Meanwhile, Ravi Bishnoi is also vying for a place alongside the spin all-rounder Washington Sundar, making the battle for selection even more challenging, and it has only intensified the selection dilemma for the team management, according to the cricket analyst Aakash Chopra.

Bishnoi’s consistency and Sundar’s all-round abilities have earned them regular games in the past series, but with newcomers knocking on the door like Mayank, Reddy, and Rana, the Indian team is left with some tough calls to make, as predicted by Chopra ahead of the first T20I.

As India prepares to face Bangladesh in the first T20I, the Indian team management must carefully balance experience and emerging talent. Taking to the social media platform X, Chopra said that it will be interesting to see how the Indian team picks their playing XI for the Gwalior T20I.

Aakash Chopra opines on India’s selection dilemma for the T20I series against Bangladesh

Aakash Chopra posted on X: “Interesting selection for the playing XI today. Since Mayank Yadav is fast-tracked, you play him. You don’t fast-track talent to warm the bench. Varun Chakravarthy is back after 3 years. You don’t recall someone sitting on the sidelines either. That said… Bishnoi and Washington are ahead in the queue. Tough calls to be made #IndvBan #AakashVani.”

Notably, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has already given a clear hint that Mayank Yadav will make his India debut in the first T20I match against Bangladesh. It is also being said that the young sensation Nitish Kumar Reddy is also in line to make his debut in Gwalior on Sunday.

  • Morne Morkel reveals Gautam Gambhir’s words fueled Rohit Sharma & India’s explosive attack on Bangladesh

Morne Morkel reveals Gautam Gambhir’s words fueled Rohit Sharma & India’s explosive attack on Bangladesh

In a thrilling display of aggressive cricket, the Indian cricket team took the second and final Test against Bangladesh by storm on Day 4 at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Monday, September 30.

With rain eating more than half the match, Rohit Sharma and his brigade turned the contest on its head by unleashing a fierce batting attack. India racked up 285 runs in just 34.4 overs at an astounding run rate of 8.22, something rarely seen in the longest format of the game.

This ultra-attacking approach left Bangladesh reeling, and by the close of play, the hosts had declared their innings at 285/9, also claiming two crucial wickets on Day 4, giving themselves a strong chance of forcing a result despite the weather setbacks in Kanpur.

Gautam Gambhir’s vision drives India’s fierce comeback in the rain-hit Kanpur Test

The Indian cricket team’s strategy drew widespread praise for its sheer audacity and effectiveness. The fearless batting saw India transform a rain-marred Test into a potential win, but the credit wasn’t solely on the captain, Rohit.

India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel revealed that this aggressive approach was a vision from head coach Gautam Gambhir, who also wanted to accelerate the game to make up for lost time, suggesting adopting this unrelenting pace.

Morne Morkel said that the team executed the plan to perfection, with Rohit setting the tone from the first ball. His leadership was instrumental in turning a difficult situation into a possible victory, as India took full advantage of every over available to them against Bangladesh.

Morne Morkel said at the press conference: “Even from GG’s (Gautam Gambhir) point of view, we decided to take the game forward as fast as possible, and you need a leader from the front to do that. And Rohit has done it so many times, and again today. To go to the first ball, bang six on a surface where the bounce might be up and down, or you may not be sure how the new ball is going to play. You can also slightly go on the back foot as a bowling unit. So, it was great to see the captain, leading from the front, putting in the charge.”

Morne Morkel hails Indian cricket team’s unmatched professionalism and dedication to fitness

Meanwhile, the former South African pacer Morne Morkel has been really impressed by the high level of professionalism displayed by the Indian team, particularly in their dedication to training and fitness.

Morne Morkel noted how committed the players are, not just during net sessions but also in their approach to recovery and overall fitness. He also noted that the team consistently puts in the hard work required to deliver strong performances on the field.

The Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel further said that their attention to every detail, from gym routines to fitness drills, highlights the relentless effort they invest in being at their best.

Morne Morkel signed off by saying, “For me, it’s so far, so enjoyable to see how professional they are and how they go about their daily lives to put on a performance. When it comes to recovery, you know, it’s right up there. When it comes to gym work and fitness work, they honestly leave no stone unturned. I’m not surprised.”

Watch: Shakib Al Hasan mocks Virat Kohli with ice-cold celebration after rattling his stumps

Virat Kohli was finally looking in good touch in the ongoing Test series between India and Bangladesh before Shakib Al Hasan removed him by shattering his stumps. Kohli looked in good form and was looking to play with intent.

However, his wait to score Test fifty got longer as he was dismissed three runs short of his fifty. Shakib tossed up an arm ball from wide of the crease and the ball went on straight after pitching on off stump.

Virat Kohli tried a big slog through midwicket but missed the ball completely. As a result, the ball shattered his stumps. It was a big wicket given the match was slowly going away from Bangladesh. Kohli was dismissed for 47 off 35 balls, which included 4 fours and 1 six.

Virat Kohli plays an aggressive innings

Virat Kohli’s innings was full of adventures as he was lucky a few times as well. Khaled Ahmed missed an easy run out early in the innings when Kohli would have been easily dismissed after a mistake by Rishabh Pant.

However, the 35-year-old continued on his aggressive route and smashed the bad balls out of the park. Kohli batted with intent and found boundaries at regular intervals. He also rotated the strike well and made full use of the gaps.

Kohli stitched a fiery partnership with KL Rahul after India had lost Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant in quick succession. Both Kohli and Rahul formed a great partnership of 87 off 59 balls to help India gain an upper hand.

    Indian batters show attacking intent

Meanwhile, it was a terrific effort from Indian batters who went all guns blazing in an attempt to win the match. There were no half measures from the batters as they continued the attacking display of batting despite losing wickets.

Captain Rohit Sharma showed the way from his first ball as he smashed his first two balls for sixes. Rohit was dismissed for 23 off 11 balls but Yashasvi Jaiswal carried on his merry way.

The left-hander kept the run rate high and found boundaries with utmost ease. He used all of his T20 skills and smashed the bowlers all around the park. Jaiswal scored a belligerent 72 off just 51 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes.

Although Rishabh Pant could not contribute much this time, the other batters continued to keep the scoring rate upwards. Rahul and Kohli were magnificent with their quickfire partnership as they did not slow down despite India losing quick wickets.

But the Men in Blue started losing wickets regularly after Kohli’s dismissal. In an attempt to score quick runs, the lower middle order and the tailenders perished quickly.

KL Rahul also announced his return to form and scored 68 off just 43 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. India declared their innings at 285-9, and gained a first innings lead of 52 runs.

Former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik has revealed that Virat Kohli had net sessions with India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate in London before the beginning of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

Kohli was disappointing in the first Test at Chennai where he registered scores of 6 and 17 across both the innings. His poor batting form raised speculations about whether he is out of touch for the ongoing Test series or not.

The 35-year-old last played a Test match earlier in the year against South Africa. He missed the England series at home due to personal reasons. However, India did not feel his absence as they went on to win the series 4-1.

Dinesh Karthik was discussing Virat Kohli’s current form against spin with Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz. During the chat, Karthik revealed that Kohli did not come into the series out of touch but had good net sessions with Ryan ten Doeschate coming into this series.

“He (Virat Kohli) did have three good net sessions in the UK with Ryan ten Doeschate. So it’s not like he’s not been completely batting,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz Chatter.

Ryan ten Doeschate is India’s newly appointed assistant coach. He was appointed into the role on the recommendation of India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir.

When did Virat Kohli arrive for the Bangladesh series?

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli arrived in Chennai a week ahead of the first Test match of the series. He flew in straight from London where he now lives with his family. Kohli also took part in the preparation camp for the players organized by the team management.

While Kohli arrived from London, other players also arrived in time to take part in the camp to prepare for a long red-ball season ahead. After the series against Bangladesh, India will play a three-match Test series against New Zealand at home.

But it will be the series against Australia that will truly test the Indian team. The Men in Blue will play a five-match Test series against Australia in an away series.

    Virat Kohli’s recent struggles

Virat Kohli’s form will be a cause of concern for India as they hope for their talismanic batter to be amongst the runs as quickly as possible. However, the team management is confident that Kohli will return to form soon and is positive about it.

Kohli’s recent struggles against spin are quite uncharacteristic given that he has mostly dominated such type of bowling throughout his career. In the last three years, he has scored 499 runs at an average of 27.72 against spinners and has been dismissed 18 times by them.

In the Chennai Test, he was trapped in front by the offspinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz for just 17 in the second innings of the match. Kohli was caught behind for 6 off the bowling of Hasan Mahmud in the first innings.
