Bills betting on upside in free agency and it's paying off

TheBuffalo Billsdidn’t go all-in on splashy names this free agency, but the moves they made are drawing plenty of positive attention – and deservedly so.

General manager Brandon Beane focused on filling needs without overreaching, adding key pieces while keeping the team’s foundation intact. CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani gave the Bills a B+ for their offseason work so far, ranking them among the top third of the league. Considering the tight cap space and key departures, that’s no small feat.

Josh Allen had some words for Dak Prescott after signing huge contract extension

Buffalo made calculated additions on both sides of the ball. On offense, they brought in wide receiver Joshua Palmer, a 25-year-old with big-play potential. Palmer hasn’t quite hit his statistical ceiling yet, but his 15+ yards per catch over the last two seasons speaks to his ability to stretch defenses – something the Bills have been missing in recent years.

The defensive line also got a facelift. Joey Bosa headlines the group, and while injuries have slowed him recently, his upside remains undeniable. The Bills also signed Michael Hoecht and Larry Ogunjobi to reinforce the trenches. Both will miss six games due to PED suspensions, but the depth they bring post-suspension could prove crucial during the playoff push.

Locked In for the long haul

More than anything, this offseason has been about locking in the young core. Josh Allen’s contract was restructured, and the team extended key contributors like Khalil Shakir, Terrel Bernard, and Greg Rousseau. Extensions for James Cook and Christian Benford could be next.

The decision to move on from Kaiir Elam – shipping him out in a late-round pick swap – signals a renewed focus on building the secondary around players they trust. It also clears the way for a potential Day 1 or 2 cornerback pick in the draft.

With holes still to fill, especially on defense, the draft remains a pivotal piece of the offseason. But between the savvy signings and the internal extensions, Buffalo is in a strong position heading into 2025.

James Cook Fantasy: Is the Buffalo Bills player a good RB option for Fantasy Football?

NFL Fantasy Football fans are putting together their teams ahead of the 2023 NFL season, which is set to kick off on September 7 with the Week One matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions.

The running back position is very important in Fantasy Football, and Buffalo Bills star James Cook is one of the RB options many may be considering.

The 23-year-old old could be a good option for your Football Fantasy roster, but just what is the James Cook Fantasy Football grade?

How good is James Cook for Fantasy Football?

Cook had a somewhat limited role last year in his rookie season, reaching a maximum of only a 56 percent snap share in Week 18 against the Patriots.

However, it’s worth noting that, from Week 13 onwards, Cook managed to split playing time almost evenly with the veteran Devin Singletary, maintaining an average 40 percent snap share over the team’s final seven games.

In terms of fantasy points, Cook matched Singletary, ranking as the 25th RB in points per game during that period.

Moreover, Cook outperformed Singletary in rushing ability throughout the season, concluding the year with an impressive 5.3 yards per carry, which ranked him fifth in the league.

Cook is poised to make a strong case for becoming the Buffalo Bills‘ starting running back in his second year, although he faces competition from Damien Harris.

The signing of Harris indicates that Cook is likely to secure the valuable pass-catching role in the backfield.

Given Cook‘s impressive 27 percent target rate per route run, it is highly anticipated that he will assume a more significant role as a receiver in the Bills‘ passing game.

James Cook Fantasy Football round: When should you draft him?

While an improvement is expected from James Cook in 2023, he is still probably a player for the lower rounds.

The consensus is that he could be drafted somewhere between 55th and 70th overall.
