I think we need Jasprit Bumrah for World Cup, Rohit Sharma as captain has probably missed him a lot: Mohammad Kaif

Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion for the 2023 ODI World Cup (WC) is still doubtful as he still recovers from a back injury. Former India cricketer, Mohammad Kaif thinks Team India will need the services of Bumrah to win the 2023 World Cup. The star speedster has been the pillar of the Indian pace set-up since making his debut in 2016 but has been injury-prone since last year. The right-arm pacer played his last match for the Indian team in September 2022.

It is pertinent to mention that Kaif also talked about India’s chances for the 2023 World Cup and thinks the Indian team will have an advantage as they know the condition better than any side. The cricketer-turned-commentator added that senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma need to pull their socks for the mega event as India will play their opening match against Australia on October 8.

“India’s chances are quite bright because playing at home, we know the conditions better compared to other teams. Spinners might be able to play a bigger role. We have the players to win the tournament,” said Kaif during a virtual interaction on DD India.

“The challenging part for India will be that you need to have all the senior players ready, fitness-wise and form-wise. Bowling should be okay I guess. If we can bat well, we will be a tough side to beat. If we talk about Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, all these senior players have to stand up and win matches,” he further added.

In the context of Kaif’s statement, India have been let down by their batting unit several times in knock-out matches of the ICC event. In the semifinal of the 2019 ODI WC, the top three were dismissed at the five-run mark while chasing the target of 240 runs against New Zealand.

Kaif hopes Jasprit Bumrah will be back for Asia Cup before ODI WC 2023

“If we can add Bumrah in the squad, he has been injured for the last few months now, now they are saying he might be back for the Asia Cup, so it’s good news. I think we need Bumrah. Rohit Sharma as a captain has probably missed Bumrah a lot,” concluded the ex-Indian cricketer.

The 29-year-old Indian speedster is currently recovering from a back injury at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. With less than 100 days left for the 2023 ODI World Cup to begin, Bumrah will be looking to make a comeback in the International circuit with Asia Cup 2023 in line which will be held in September. He went for his back surgery in March this year and his availability for ODI World Cup will certainly be crucial for the Men in Blue in winning the prestigious tournament.

  • ‘We are hopeful that Bumrah will be fit for the match’ – R Ashwin hints at Indian pacer’s availability for India-Pakistan WC clash

‘We are hopeful that Bumrah will be fit for the match’ – R Ashwin hints at Indian pacer’s availability for India-Pakistan WC clash

The mystery surrounding Jasprit Bumrah’s recovery and his expected return to the Indian cricket team continues to deepen with each passing day. Last week, it was reported that Bumrah’s rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy was progressing as scheduled after his stress fracture surgery.

There were hopes of his return as early as the Ireland T20Is in August. However, just two days later, news emerged that Bumrah was bowling seven overs a day at the NCA and would participate in practice games, indicating that his comeback was still some time away.

While fans were digesting this bittersweet update, another exciting development unfolded when news of Bumrah’s participation in the upcoming Asia Cup emerged. On Thursday, Ravichandran Ashwin added to the good news by revealing details about Bumrah’s comeback.

During his discussion about the recently announced fixtures for the 2023 World Cup, Ashwin mentioned that Bumrah’s return was the most positive update. He specifically talked about the highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan match scheduled to take place at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Ashwin’s revelation about Bumrah’s potential availability brought joy to Indian cricket fans.

“The India-Pakistan clashes in previous ICC events have been extraordinary. I believe we can expect another blockbuster match between the two teams. Both teams have a quality seam attack, so it will be a closely contested game. We are hopeful that Bumrah, and possibly Prasidh as well, will be fit for the match. Although I’m uncertain about the team combination, it promises to be an exciting contest,” said Ashwin on his YouTube channel.

Bumrah had missed all three India vs Pakistan T20Is in the past year, including two during the Asia Cup and one at the T20 World Cup. However, if he remains fit for the Asia Cup, he is likely to play in all three matches against Pakistan scheduled for this year.

With three and a half months left until the World Cup, the highly anticipated clash between the two cricketing giants has already become a sold-out event. Hotels in Ahmedabad are already fully booked, and tickets are expected to sell rapidly once they become available. Ashwin, like all fans, is eagerly looking forward to the match.

We have fond memories of Ahmedabad from the 2011 World Cup: Ashwin

“One particular game I want to talk about is the India vs. Pakistan match at Ahmedabad on October 15. It is undoubtedly going to be a sell-out event, with a capacity audience of 130,000 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. We have fond memories of Ahmedabad from the 2011 World Cup. Back then, where we played the quarter-final against Australia and emerged victorious. We then faced Pakistan in the semifinal and went on to win the World Cup,” added Ashwin.

The excitement for the India-Pakistan match at Ahmedabad is already building up, with both players and fans eagerly anticipating a thrilling encounter at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium.

  • Prasidh Krishna gets married to Rachana; Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer attend the wedding ceremony

Prasidh Krishna gets married to Rachana; Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer attend the wedding ceremony

In a delightful traditional South Indian wedding ceremony, Indian cricketer Prasidh Krishna tied the knot with his fiancée Rachana on Thursday. Following their engagement on Tuesday, the wedding took place on June 8. The wedding ceremony was graced by the presence of several notable players, including fellow Indian cricketers, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, Mayank Agarwal, Devdutt Padikkal and Krishnappa Gowtham.

Numerous pictures capturing the joyous moments of the couple have become viral on various social media platforms.

One particularly heartwarming photo shared by Gowtham on his Instagram stories showcases the newlyweds posing alongside Bumrah, Iyer and other prominent cricketers.

“Congratulations Skiddyy,” wrote Iyer on his Instagram story, resharing Gowtham’s post.

Meanwhile, Prasidh is currently in the process of rehabilitation following his back surgery, which caused him to miss the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The 27-year-old fast bowler suffered a lumbar stress fracture in his spine, necessitating surgical intervention. As a result, his team, Rajasthan Royals (RR), had to make a replacement and enlisted right-arm medium pacer Sandeep Sharma for the 16th edition of the tournament.

Prasidh has had a successful stint in the IPL so far. In the Indian T20 extravaganza, he has participated in 51 matches, taking 49 wickets at a slightly higher economy rate of 8.92.

  • IPL 2023: Rohit Sharma gives an update on Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement

IPL 2023: Rohit Sharma gives an update on Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will commence from Friday (March 31), and all ten teams are set to compete in the marquee event for the coveted trophy. However, the absence of Jasprit Bumrah from the tournament is a bit bothering for five times champions Mumbai Indians (MI), who are yet to announce the replacement of their premier pacer.

Notably, Bumrah sustained a back injury in September last year and has not participated in any competitive match ever since. He recently underwent surgery in New Zealand to treat his recurring back issues and hence has pulled out of the IPL 2023. It will be the first time in a decade that the 29-year-old fast-bowler will not feature in IPL for the Mumbai-based team.

On being asked about Bumrah’s absence from the tournament in the pre-season press conference, MI skipper Rohit Sharma said that the management has some players on their list to replace the right-arm pacer and will come up with the final decision soon.

“Regarding Bumrah’s replacement, we’ve been discussing a few options. Hopefully, we can close it down in the next couple of days and then we see how we will go about it,” said Rohit.

The India captain further added that although it’s tough to fill the void of Bumrah, they have some youngsters who might get a chance to showcase their talent in the latter’s absence.

“We have been talking about Bumrah. He is a big miss. Jasprit Bumrah’s role was quite important for Mumbai Indians, it’s a big shoe to fill. But it gives someone else an opportunity for the youngsters in the team to showcase their talent. We have a couple of guys who have been with this team for the last few years. They are very much ready to take the centrestage and hopefully can blood in some youngsters,” added the 35-year-old.

Meanwhile, talking about the legendary Sachin Tendulkar‘s son Arjun Tendulkar, Rohit said: “Arjun Tendulkar is playing good cricket in recent times. He was injured but today he will start bowling.”

On the other hand, MI’s head coach, Mark Boucher, agreed with the India opener and added: “Arjun has been playing good cricket for some time, he is bowling well, we are thinking that he will play in the playing XI this year.”

Arjun is an all-rounder and was roped in by the MI franchise in 2021, but he has not made his debut in the IPL yet.

  • Japrit Bumrah to undergo back surgery in New Zealand, set to miss the IPL 2023

Japrit Bumrah to undergo back surgery in New Zealand, set to miss the IPL 2023

India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will fly to New Zealand to undergo back surgery and is going to be away from the field at least till September 2023. Notably, it was due to the same back injury that the ace India pacer got ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

As per the latest reports, Bumrah in New Zealand will be treated by renowned Kiwi surgeon Rowan Schouten who has a history of helping out numerous high-profile athletes. Since it will take five to six months for him to recover fully after the operation, therefore the chances of the 29-year-old Gujarat cricketer appearing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023  and India’s possible World Test Championship Final are almost over.

While the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) expected Bumrah to return to action in the third Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023, the right-arm pacer did not get clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to return to the field. Taking cognizance of the matter, BCCI left out Bumrah from the ODI series against Australia as well in order to manage his workload and not stress him ahead of the ODI World Cup later this year.

The BCCI officials are hopeful that Bumrah will be available for the ODI World Cup in India following the surgery, and for the same reason, they decided to get his surgery done by Schouten- who had worked on England pacer Jofra Archer and operated upon the likes of Shane Bond. It is believed that it was Bond only who suggested the Indian board about Schouten.

Bumrah last played for India in a T20I against Australia on September 25 2022, and later went on to miss the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup due to an injury. However, the current focus of the BCCI remains on getting Bumrah fit prior to the 50-over world cup event at home.

  • Netizens spark meme fest as Jasprit Bumrah reportedly set to miss the IPL 2023

Netizens spark meme fest as Jasprit Bumrah reportedly set to miss the IPL 2023

India’s star fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, still hasn’t recovered from the back injury he sustained last year. The right-arm pacer is likely not to take part in the marquee Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Notably, Bumrah missed the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia due to the same injury.

At first, there were speculations of Bumrah returning to action in the last two Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023, but the 29-year-old pacer, due to not being fully fit, was left out by the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI). He was not even named in the One Day International (ODI) team of the Men in Blue that will take on Australia after the conclusion of Test series.

The selection committee took the call so as not to stress Bumrah and give him proper time to recover fully ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup that will be played in India later this year. However, fans were confident that the Gujarat cricketer would return to the field in IPL 2023 for the Mumbai Indians. But their hopes got shattered as in a report by Cricbuzz, it was recently revealed that Bumrah is likely set to miss both IPL 2023 and India’s possible World Test Championship final.

While many were left disappointed with the news, some on social media sparked a meme fest and shared some hilarious posts reacting to the update. On that note, let’s have a look at the meme galore by netizens on Twitter:

  • KL Rahul retains place but not named vice-captain as India announce squad for last 2 Tests against Australia

KL Rahul retains place but not named vice-captain as India announce squad for last 2 Tests against Australia

Struggling opening batter KL Rahul has retained his place in the Indian team for the third and fourth Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 against Australia. Interestingly, he has not been named the vice-captain.

Left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat, who was released from the squad for the second Test so that he could play in the Ranji Trophy final, also makes a return for the last two games against the Aussies.

Unadkat was the Player of the Match in the Ranji Trophy final against Bengal. He claimed nine wickets as Saurashtra won the premier domestic competition for the second time.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian squad for the remaining Test matches on Sunday (February 19) following the hosts’ six-wicket triumph over the Aussies in Delhi in the second Test.

As reported earlier, lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah has not been included in the squad for the remaining Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. That’s because he continues to recuperate from the back injury that has kept him out of international cricket since September last year.

The third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 will be played in Indore from March 1 to 5. The final match of the series will be held in Ahmedabad from March 9 to 13.

India’s Test squad for third and fourth Test against Australia: Rohit Sharma (Captain), K L Rahul, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, KS Bharat (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat

“I believe he has the quality and class to come out of this” – Team India coach backs KL Rahul

While some former Indian players like Venkatesh Prasad have called for Rahul’s sacking, Team India coach Rahul Dravid has backed the struggling opener. He asserted that the team management has faith in his talent and quality.

Speaking to the host broadcaster after India’s six-wicket win over Australia in Delhi, Dravid said:

“I think he needs to trust his processes. This is just a phase; he has been one of our most successful overseas openers. He’s got hundreds in South Africa and England; we’ll continue to back him.”

    He continued:

“I believe he has the quality and class to come out of this. It is great working with this unit; managing formats is the most difficult part. But there’s not a lot of technical coaching, just simple conversations and challenging them, and giving them a pat on the back when they do well.”

A few people thinking i have something personal against KL Rahul. Infact it is the opposite. I wish well for him and playing him in such form was never going to enhance his confidence. For him to earn his place back in Test cricket, now that the domestic season has ended, cont.

Rahul has registered scores of 20, 17 and one in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

  • Chetan Sharma’s sting operation: Here are the startling revelations made by Team India’s chief selector

Chetan Sharma’s sting operation: Here are the startling revelations made by Team India’s chief selector

Former India cricketer and current chief of the BCCI selection committee Chetan Sharma has made some shocking revelations in a massive sting operation conducted by Zee News.

As per the TV channel, Sharma has claimed that many players in the Indian cricket team take injections to get a fitness certificate even when they are not fit. Apart from this, the chief selector also admitted that big stars, whose names he didn’t take, also take injections and that they have their own doctors outside of cricket who are available for them at their beck and call.

Speaking about the Virat Kohli versus Sourav Ganguly episode, Chetan clearly mentioned that it was Virat who felt that he lost his captaincy because of the then BCCI president Ganguly, but actually it was not the case.

Here are some excerpts from the sting operation:

    • Virat Kohli vs BCCI chapter

“Virat Kohli felt he the captaincy because of BCCI President. These were 9 people in the selection committee video conference. Ganguly may have told him him ‘think about it once.’ I think Kohli didn’t hear it.

“Ganguly had said, Virat was lying… But why Virat lied, nobody knows till today. This is personal matter. There was controversy in it – Board versus player.”

    • Sourav Ganguly’s relationship with Rohit Sharma

“Ganguly did not favour Rohit but he never liked Virat. You can put in this way.”

“The players are not fit but they take injections to play. They are ready to play even at 80% fitness. They take injections and start playing.”

    • Virat Kohli vs Rohit Sharma battle

“There is no battle between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma but there is ego. Both are like big film stars you can say, Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra.”

    • Jasprit Bumrah’s injury

“Jasprit Bumrah was unable to bend as he had a major injury; other than that there are one or two players who take injections in private and says that they are fit to play.”

“I bought in the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda, Shubman Gill and other 15-20 players in the team.

“Hardik Pandya will take over as captain in T20I format.”

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma has provided a huge update on pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the Border Gavaskar Trophy scheduled to be played from February 9 onwards. Rohit Sharma and co. are riding high on the back of consecutive series wins against Sri Lanka and New Zealand in the 50-over format.

The Men in Blue registered a series whitewash 3-0 against the Black Caps after emerging victorious by 90 runs in the final ODI played in Indore. Following the emphatic win, Rohit responded to a query related to Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the team after being on the sidelines due to a back injury. He also added that he would like to see the pacer take part in the final two red-ball clashes against Australia.

“About (Jasprit) Bumrah, I am not too sure at the moment. The first two Test matches, of course, he is not going to be available. I am expecting…I am hoping, not expecting, that he plays the next (last) two Test matches (against Australia). We don’t want to take any risks with him as back injuries are always critical. We have a lot of cricket coming back after that as well,” Rohit was quoted as saying by NDTV.

“We are in constant touch with physios and doctors in NCA. We will monitor. The medical team will give him as much time as he wants,” he added.

    India-Australia lock horns in February

Following the conclusion of the T20I series against the Kiwis, Rohit and co. will shift focus onto the Test series against Australia which is to be played from February 9. The month-long red-ball series will prove to be the key as it will decide which side will qualify for the summit clash of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle.

The two sides will also contest in three ODI matches which will be played after the conclusion of the red-ball series in March. The three-match ODI series will be vital for both sides in order to understand the squad dynamics considering the 2023 ODI World Cup.
