IPL 2023: Twitter goes berserk as Lucknow Super Giants beat Royal Challengers Bangalore in a nail-biting thriller

In Match 15 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) won a thrilling encounter against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 1 wicket at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday.

The match was packed with thrilling moments, including an impressive performance by Virat Kohli in the powerplay, a 115-meter six by Faf du Plessis, and Nicholas Pooran‘s sensational knock. RCB put up a massive total of 212/2 in their 20 overs, thanks to brilliant batting performances by skipper Faf du Plessis (79 off 46), Kohli (61 off 44), and Glenn Maxwell (59 off 29).

In response, the Super Giants had a shaky start, losing Kyle Mayers for a duck. However, Marcus Stoinis (65 off 30) and Pooran (62 off 19) played explosive innings to keep their team in the game.

The match went down to the wire, with the Super Giants winning the contest by just 1 wicket in the final over. Mohammed Siraj and Wayne Parnell took 3 wickets each for the Challengers, while Harshal Patel and Karn Sharma took 2 and 1 wickets, respectively.

Twitter reactions: All-round Krunal Pandya drives LSG to emphatic win over SRH in IPL 2023

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) produced an impactful performance in their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium to register their second win in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

Krunal Pandya was the wrecker-in-chief for the Super Giants as he came up with an all-round show to earn his side an impressive triumph in front of their home crowd.

Batting first, Sunrisers struggled to build any momentum and eventually ended their innings with a total of 121/8 in their 20 overs. Anmolpreet Singh top-scored for the 2016 champions with 31 runs off 26 deliveries.

Krunal was the standout bowler for the Super Giants, with figures of 3/18 in his quota of four overs. He dismantled the SRH batting unit by taking wickets of Anmolpreet, Mayank Agarwal (8) and Sunrisers skipper Aiden Markram (0).

In response, LSG made a solid start to their innings, with captain KL Rahul and opener Kyle Mayers putting on 35 runs for the opening wicket on a challenging surface. They lost Rahul (35) and Mayers (13) inside the powerplay before Krunal stepped up and played a crucial knock of 34 runs off 23 deliveries to guide his team to victory with four overs to spare.

IPL 2023: Chennai Super Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants Match 6 – Talking Points and Who Said What?

Get every cricket updates! Follow us on

The sixth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a fiery clash between the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. Both sides took on each other at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium on Monday, April 3.

The KL Rahul-led Lucknow came into the game oozing confidence as they were coming off a victory in their first game of the season against Delhi Capitals. However, the flame was quickly extinguished following an exceptional performance by Chennai.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway played sensational knocks, whereas Moeen Ali was highly impressive with the ball in the second innings. Kyle Mayers’ excellence with the bat and Mark Wood’s resilient spell were not enough for Lucknow in the end, as Chennai won the game by 12 runs. Following the end of the match, let us have a look at the talking points from the match and who said what.

    1. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s excellence

26-year-old Ruturaj Gaikwad has kicked off the IPL 2023 season with a bang. After scoring 92 runs in the season opener, Gaikwad followed it up with an excellent knock of 57 runs in the game against Lucknow. His knock was integral for the four-time champions as they posted 217 runs on the board after the first innings.

    2. Moeen Ali’s masterclass

After scoring 19 runs in the first innings, veteran English all-rounder Moeen Ali followed it up with a masterclass of a spell. Ali took four wickets to dismantle Lucknow’s batting line-up. Furthermore, the 35-year-old only conceded 26 runs in the four overs that he bowled.

    3. KL Rahul’s poor form

After only managing to score eight runs in Lucknow’s first game of the season, many opined that skipper KL Rahul will be back stronger in the forthcoming matches. However, the same was not the case as the ace Indian batter was once again sent back to the pavilion after scoring a mere 20 runs. Rahul will have to pick up his form if he wants to propel his side to their first IPL title in 2023.

    Losing skipper KL Rahul said:

Not the ideal start after winning the toss. The first couple of overs it was a bit sticky and there was a bit of movement, but we did not bowl in the right areas and they got that flier. When you have quality batters in the opposition, they make you pay. Something for us to learn but the way Rutu and Conway played was brilliant. It does take time to learn what lengths to bowl on a surface, but to go for 70 odd in six overs isn’t ideal. We batted well but we didn’t capitalize the small momentum. Kyle (Mayers) is coming off good form, he was smoking them for West Indies and comes here with the same form and intent. Great to see what he’s done with the opportunity. Bishnoi is someone I’ve played with for a while, he gets wickets when things aren’t going well, puts his hand up and contains runs. Good to see different guys putting their hands up. Wouldn’t change the toss decision, we didn’t win because we didn’t capitalize the small moments. We had a good start but couldn’t press on. Not often we’ll find 4-5 guys caught on the boundary ropes, they needed to go over and will go over the next time. We’ll take that in T20 cricket, today the game didn’t go our way but this is the way we want to keep playing.

    Winning skipper MS Dhoni said:

Terrific high-scoring game. All of us were thinking how the wicket would be. It was the perfect first game that could happen. I thought it would be much slower. But it was a wicket where you could score runs. I was quite surprised with the wicket. But we’ll have to see if we can produce a wicket like this game after game. Fast bowling we need to slightly improve. Need to bowl according to the conditions. WHat is important is to keep an eye as to what the opposition bowlers are doing. One more thing if they’ll have to bowl no no-balls or extra wides. Or they’ll have to play under a new captain. It will be my second warning and then I’ll be off. Only reason we’ve scored those runs is if the surface is nice.

Player of the Match Moeen Ali said:

They have big hitters. Almost tried to bowl like Test cricket. Tried to spin the ball. The combination was nice (with Santner). The partnership worked well. MS knows what he’s doing. He knows when to bowl players. I do believe off-spinners can bowl to right-handers especially bowling to the big leg-side. I’m not going to bowl all the time with Jadeja there.

IPL 2023 [Twitter reactions]: Kyle Mayers’ fireworks, Mark Wood’s 5-fer propel LSG to dominating win over DC

In the third match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday.

Put in to bat, the Super Giants lost captain KL Rahul early as he could not contribute much, scoring only 8 runs off 12 balls. However, Kyle Mayers kept the pressure on and took the DC bowling attack to the cleaners.

Mayers played a brilliant innings of 73 runs off 38 balls, hitting 2 fours and 7 sixes. Nicholas Pooran also played a crucial knock of 36 runs off 21 balls, hitting 2 fours and 3 sixes as LSG managed to put up a massive total of 193/6 in their 20 overs.

In response, the Capitals got just couldn’t get going and kept losing wickets at regular intervals only to reach 143/9 in 20 overs, losing the contest by 50 runs. DC skipper David Warner was the only batsman who stood out for the Capitals, scoring 56 runs off 48 balls with the help of 7 fours.

Mark Wood was the standout performer for the Super Giants in the bowling department, picking up 5 wickets for just 14 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Avesh Khan also bowled well, taking a couple of scalps for 29 runs in 4 overs.

  • IPL 2023: Aaron Finch picks the ‘X-factor’ of Lucknow Super Giants for the forthcoming season

IPL 2023: Aaron Finch picks the ‘X-factor’ of Lucknow Super Giants for the forthcoming season

In their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) season last year, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) established themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Under the leadership of KL Rahul, the Super Giants impressed one and all with their brand of cricket and dominated the 15th season of the cash-rich league. They secured a spot in the playoffs by winning 9 out of 14 league games before their journey concluded as they were defeated by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the semifinal.

As the Lucknow-based franchise are set to kick off their campaign in the IPL 2023 with the high-voltage clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 01, former Australia skipper Aaron Finch has picked the ‘X-factor’ of the last year’s debutants.

On the ‘Know your team’ show on Star Sports, Finch went with all-rounder Deepak Hooda as the ‘X-factor’ of Super Giants. Notably, Hooda had a tremendous campaign with the bat as he ended up scoring 451 runs at a strike rate of 136.66 and finished the tournament under the top-10 run-getters list.

Finch reckoned that Hooda has adopted the number three batting position and sets up a good platform for other batters with his decent strike rate and aggressive style of batting.

“The X-factor for me this season for Lucknow I see is Deepak Hooda. He’s someone who has taken the responsibility of batting at number 3. He’s someone who strikes at a good strike rate, particularly in the first 10 balls. He continues to keep being aggressive. If he can bat for longer periods while being aggressive, that will set up that middle and lower order to be at their destructive best,” said Finch.

For the unversed, Hooda has been a regular member of India’s limited-overs teams and made notable contributions in various matches. In June last year, the Rohtak-born exhibited his batting prowess by smashing a century in a T20I game against Ireland. Later, during the ODI and T20I series against the West Indies, Hooda proved to be a valuable asset with his accurate and disciplined off-spin bowling.

  • IPL 2023: 5 Teams that can target Ben Stokes in the upcoming mini-auction

IPL 2023: 5 Teams that can target Ben Stokes in the upcoming mini-auction

Exactly a week from now, i.e. on December 23, the much-awaited mini-auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is set to take place in Kochi. Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the final list of players (405) who will go under the hammer.

Among the big list of players, one cricketer who is going to trigger a bidding war in the auction is England’s star, Ben Stokes. The top-quality all-rounder pulled out from the last edition of the cash-rich league to focus on his national duty.

There is no denying that Stokes will cause an intense bidding war, as every franchise will look to rope in the kind of all-rounder he is. Additionally, the Christchurch-born will also be an ideal choice for franchises looking for a captain in the upcoming season of the lucrative league. On that note, let’s have a look at five franchises that can target Stokes in the forthcoming mini-auction:

    1.) Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have released several players, including all-rounders and their captain Kane Williamson. Hence, the 2016 champions will be looking for one quality cricketer who can fill both requirements and Stokes, by all margins, fits right in.

The advantage Stokes brings is that he can bat in the top order and be a finisher as the situation require, and the Sunrisers need such a cricketer. Since the Orange Army has the biggest purse, fans can expect them to go at full flow to acquire the services of England’s Test captain.

    2.) Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings (PBKS) have a similar story to the Sunrisers. They also got rid of quite a few players, including their skipper Mayank Agarwal, who didn’t impress at all both with the bat and his captaincy. Though, Punjab don’t need a captain as they have already named Shikhar Dhawan as the leader of the side.

PBKS had Odean Smith in the previous season, but he was not consistent, and therefore the Mohali-based franchise can target Stokes to be a finisher. Interestingly, Punjab already have two Englishmen in the form of Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone, and with Stokes’ inclusion, PBKS will be able to solve their top, middle and lower-order problem.

    3.) Rajasthan Royals

Stokes was part of Rajasthan Royals (RR) along with his English teammate Jos Buttler, and there will be no surprise if the Royals would again go for Stoksey in the mini-auction. During his stint with the franchise, the 31-year-old scored 604 runs in 31 games and picked up 16 wickets for the side.

The only recognised batter Rajasthan have down the order is Riyan Parag, therefore, the 2008 IPL Winners need a high-quality all-rounder, and Stokes will fulfil all their requirements. Also, the Royals have a relatively inexperienced bowling attack, and having Stokes in the side will help the young pacers to learn how to bowl in crunch situations.

    4.) Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have released Jason Holder from their squad, and without a question, they will look for an all-rounder. In that regard, Stokes could be an ideal choice. Although LSG have the likes of Marcus Stoinis and Deepak Hooda, having Stokes in the side would make Lucknow look a really dangerous side.

Stokes is a ferocious striker of the ball and a remarkable hitter with the bat, and that’s exactly what Lucknow need to make a strong team. Since LSG have INR 23.35 crore in their purse, they can try hard to sign Stokes and add depth to their side.

    5.) Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) didn’t have a fruitful campaign in the last edition, as they could only record four victories and finished the season as the ninth-ranked team. Ahead of the 2022 edition, CSK made all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja the captain, but he couldn’t do well and relinquished the post, giving it back to MS Dhoni.

Further, the Super Kings don’t have a quality bowling attack and a pace-bowling all-rounder as well. Since Stokes has the ability to do well with both bat and ball and can be a leader of the side, the 4-time IPL champions could well bid for the English superstar. CSK have INR 20.45 crores in their purse, and they can push a little further to acquire the services of Stokes.

  • IPL 2023: Three teams that can bid for Cameron Green in the upcoming mini-auction

IPL 2023: Three teams that can bid for Cameron Green in the upcoming mini-auction

The upcoming auction of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is all set to take place on December 23 in Kochi. Ahead of the bidding event, 991 players have registered themselves to go under the hammer. But, with a squad limit of 25 players, only a maximum of 87 cricketers can earn contracts from the franchises, of which 30 could be overseas players.

Like every auction, teams will focus on picking quality all-rounders as they are always in demand due to their role. All-rounders often go for big money at IPL auctions, and Australian sensation Cameron Green will be a hot property at the mini-auction.

Green was already impressive with his bowling stint, and following his exploits with the bat in India earlier this year, it is likely that the swashbuckling Aussie all-rounder will trigger a bidding war amongst the IPL franchises.

Green registered his name in the mini-auction of the lucrative tournament at a base price of INR 2 crore. Although recent comments of Australian coach Andrew McDonald have made Green’s availability doubtful. But considering that the all-rounder will come to play in the IPL, let’s have a look at three teams who can bid for Green in the mini-auction.

    Lucknow Super Giants

After releasing Jason Holder from their squad, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will undoubtedly look for an all-rounder, and Green could be an ideal choice. Notably, Holder did a good job with the ball for Lucknow but couldn’t leave his impact with the bat.

LSG have the likes of Marcus Stoinis and Deepak Hooda, and if the duo bat in the top order, then the KL Rahul-led side can try Green as the finisher – a role he has played well in ODIs and Tests but not in T20s yet.

    SunRisers Hyderabad

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) need to rebuild their team from scratch and have a massive purse of INR 42.25 crore remaining. They have released their skipper Kane Williamson, finisher Nicholas Pooran and all-rounder Romario Shepherd. Since Green can bat in the top order, he will add immense balance to the team.

As an opener, Green has scored 61 (30 and 52 (21) against India before the T20 World Cup 2022. His strike rate of 214.55 in the series would be an eye-catching factor for all the franchises, including SRH, who had the worst strike rate in the powerplay in 2022, with 108.52.

    Punjab Kings

Like the Sunrisers, Punjab Kings (PBKS) also got rid of quite a few players, including their skipper Mayank Agarwal, who had a terrible season with the bat and his leadership also raised many eyebrows. Ahead of the mini-auction, the Kings have handed over the reins to Shikhar Dhawan.

Since PBKS have released finisher Odean Smith, Green could well become their go-to man in the lower order as their top, and middle order is sorted with Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Liam Livingstone. With their INR 32.2 crore budget, signing Green could be a game-changer as that will allow PBKS to play an extra batter as well.
