Twitter Reactions: Sanju Samson, bowlers lead India to 3-0 whitewash over Bangladesh in T20I series

India delivered a commanding performance, overwhelming Bangladesh by 133 runs in the third and final T20I to secure a 3-0 series sweep. The match, played in Hyderabad on Saturday (October 12), saw India setting a monumental total of 297/6, the highest ever by a full-member nation in T20I history. This remarkable feat left Bangladesh with an insurmountable task in what was essentially a dead rubber. India’s dominance from start to finish underscored their superiority in the shortest format of the game.

Sanju Samson’s record-breaking batting display in Hyderabad

India’s batting onslaught was led by Sanju Samson, who etched his name into the record books as the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score a T20I century. His sensational innings of 111 off just 47 balls overshadowed even Suryakumar Yadav, who also played a blistering knock Suryakumar contributed a blistering 75 from 35 deliveries, showcasing his usual flair, while Hardik Pandya’s explosive 47 off 18 provided the late flourish that pushed India’s total to a record-breaking 297/6. The relentless aggression throughout the innings not only set a new team benchmark but also left Bangladesh in disarray, struggling to comprehend the magnitude of their task.

Bangladesh’s inconsistent response: India’s bowlers seal the deal

Facing an almost impossible target, Bangladesh began their chase with some intent but quickly faltered as wickets tumbled regularly. Although Towhid Hridoy stood out with a fighting, unbeaten 63, his lone effort was not enough to stem the tide of India’s dominance. The chase lost steam after a promising start, with key wickets falling at crucial moments. However, they could only manage 164/7 in their 20 overs, never coming close to the massive target, effectively sealing their defeat.

Defending a mammoth total, India’s bowlers showed no signs of complacency and executed their plans with precision. Ravi Bishnoi, making a strong comeback into the T20I side, was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets and breaking through Bangladesh’s fragile resistance. Mayank Yadav, who featured in all three matches of the series, supported well with two wickets of his own. Throughout the game India’s bowlers and fielders remained sharp, maintaining high standards throughout. This clinical bowling performance added the finishing touch to what was a dominant all-round display by the Indian team.

Mayank Yadav insulted On Air by Tamim Iqbal, Murali Kartik gives the latter a beating

Young team fast bowler Mayank Yadav has grabbed attention since his debut for the national cricket team during the first T20I match against Bangladesh.

Tamim Iqbal said that Mayank Yadav hasn’t touched a speed of 150 kph during the T20I series, and Murali Kartik delivered a brutal three-word reply on air.

Mayank consistently bowled at speeds over 150 kph in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024).

The right-arm fast bowler also bowled the fastest delivery of the season when he bowled at 156.7 kph. He secured back-to-back Player of the Match awards in his first two games for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

He was sidelined after playing just four matches due to an abdominal strain. Mayank then recovered at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where he regained match fitness. He received his maiden international call-up for the series against Bangladesh despite not playing domestic cricket.

Mayank Yadav Has Not Touched 150 – Tamim Iqbal

Mayank started his international career with a maiden over during the first T20I in Gwalior.

He played his second T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, where India secured an 86-run win over Bangladesh. He bowled at 149 kph in the first T20I but didn’t breach the 150 kph in the series.

During the commentary, Tamim Iqbal said that Mayank hasn’t bowled at his usual top speed. The cricketer-turned-commentator added that Mayank Yadav has not touched 150 kph in this series. Tamim was countered by co-commentator Murali Kartik, who quipped that neither has Bangladesh.

“Mayank Yadav has not touched 150 in this series,” Tamim Iqbal said during commentary.

“Neither has Bangladesh,” replied Murali Kartik, who was his fellow commentator.

I Was Bit More Nervous – Mayank Yadav

Speaking on Jio Cinema after India’s clinical win in Gwalior, Mayank said that he was nervous during his debut, especially since he hadn’t played competitive cricket following his injury. Mayank added that the recovery process was challenging with ups and downs over the last four months.

“I was indeed excited but was a bit more nervous. This series marked my comeback after the injury. I didn’t play competitive cricket and then directly made my debut. That’s why I was a little more nervous,” Yadav had told Jio Cinema.

“The recovery period was tough for more. Quite a lot of ups and downs were there in the last 4 months. But more than me, it was tougher for the people who worked with me,” he added.

Mayank Yadav Took One Wicket In Second T20I Match

The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led team was bowled out for only 127 runs in Gwalior. The visitors managed to score 135 for the loss of 9 wickets while chasing a target of 222 in Delhi. Mayank took the wicket of Jaker Ali, who scored just one run, during the second T20I of the ongoing three-match series.

The third and final T20I match of the series will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday, October 12. Mayank could be given a rest as the hosts have already clinched the series.

Twitter Reactions: Hardik Pandya Arshdeep Singh shine in India’s emphatic win over Bangladesh in the 1st T20I

The Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian side secured a dominant seven-wicket win against Bangladesh in the opening T20I of the three-match series held in Gwalior on October 6. The match, hosted at the newly inaugurated Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium, saw the Indian team effortlessly chase down a modest target of 128 in just 11.5 overs, leaving a staggering 49 deliveries unused. This remarkable victory set a new benchmark for India, recording their biggest margin in terms of balls remaining while pursuing a total over 100, surpassing their previous best of 41 balls against Zimbabwe in 2016.

Bowlers steal the show: Arshdeep Singh and Mayank Yadav shine

India’s resounding win was set up by a stellar performance from their bowlers, led by Arshdeep Singh, along with debutant Mayank Yadav and comeback star Varun Chakravarthy. Mayank, making his much-anticipated international debut, showcased his raw pace and ability. The 22-year-old, renowned for his consistent 150 kmph deliveries in the IPL, delivered a fiery spell, returning figures of 1/21. His maiden international wicket came when he dismissed veteran Mahmudullah, who mistimed a shot to Washington Sundar at deep point. Concerns about his fitness were put to rest as Mayank clocked speeds of 145+ kmph in his initial overs.

Returning to the side after nearly three years, Varun proved his mettle with a superb 3/31. The mystery spinner’s variations and control troubled the Bangladeshi batters, claiming the crucial scalps of Jaker Ali and Towhid Hridoy. Despite a costly start, Varun quickly adapted, ensuring Bangladesh could only muster 127. Complementing these efforts, Arshdeep’s left-arm pace delivered a clinical 3/14, dismantling the top order with early wickets in the powerplay, including Litton Das and Parvez Hossain Emon.

Efficient chase led by Hardik Pandya’s quick knock

India’s pursuit of the target was swift and precise, thanks to aggressive knocks from Suryakumar (29), Sanju Samson (29) and a finishing flourish from Hardik Pandya (39*). The chase was wrapped up in 11.5 overs, cementing India’s series lead and marking the return of international cricket to Gwalior after a 14-year hiatus. With the new venue making its international debut, India’s comprehensive win laid a strong foundation for the remainder of the series. Their disciplined bowling and explosive batting provided little opportunity for Bangladesh to recover, establishing India’s dominance early on.

  • Will Mayank Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy feature in India’s 11? Former Indian player reveals

Will Mayank Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy feature in India’s 11? Former Indian player reveals

Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra said that the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh has thrown up a major selection dilemma for the Indian cricket team management, as they face tough decisions about playing XI.

With three promising young talents, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Mayank Yadav, awaiting their potential debuts, the competition for spots is intense, as experienced players like Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, and the comeback man Varun Chakravarthy are also in line to play.

Aakash Chopra backs Mayank Yadav for India debut and Varun Chakravarthy to get game vs Bangladesh

Aakash Chopra mentioned that Mayank Yadav is fast-tracked into the Indian squad despite his recent injury struggles after a stellar IPL 2024, so he is going to make his India debut in the first T20I against Bangladesh on Sunday, October 6, at the Gwalior International Cricket Stadium.

Mayank Yadav’s raw pace and aggression have earned him significant attention, with many seeing him as a potential game-changer for the Men in Blue.

On the other hand, Varun Chakravarthy’s return to the national team after a three-year hiatus has also created a buzz, especially given his impressive performance in IPL 2024, which led to his recall.

Varun Chakravarthy’s unorthodox spin could add a layer of mystery to India’s bowling attack, and Chopra reckoned that Varun is not recalled to the T20I squad to warm the bench, as he feels the spinner is also sure to play in the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh at home.

Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar are in line to play against Bangladesh

Meanwhile, Ravi Bishnoi is also vying for a place alongside the spin all-rounder Washington Sundar, making the battle for selection even more challenging, and it has only intensified the selection dilemma for the team management, according to the cricket analyst Aakash Chopra.

Bishnoi’s consistency and Sundar’s all-round abilities have earned them regular games in the past series, but with newcomers knocking on the door like Mayank, Reddy, and Rana, the Indian team is left with some tough calls to make, as predicted by Chopra ahead of the first T20I.

As India prepares to face Bangladesh in the first T20I, the Indian team management must carefully balance experience and emerging talent. Taking to the social media platform X, Chopra said that it will be interesting to see how the Indian team picks their playing XI for the Gwalior T20I.

Aakash Chopra opines on India’s selection dilemma for the T20I series against Bangladesh

Aakash Chopra posted on X: “Interesting selection for the playing XI today. Since Mayank Yadav is fast-tracked, you play him. You don’t fast-track talent to warm the bench. Varun Chakravarthy is back after 3 years. You don’t recall someone sitting on the sidelines either. That said… Bishnoi and Washington are ahead in the queue. Tough calls to be made #IndvBan #AakashVani.”

Notably, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has already given a clear hint that Mayank Yadav will make his India debut in the first T20I match against Bangladesh. It is also being said that the young sensation Nitish Kumar Reddy is also in line to make his debut in Gwalior on Sunday.

Not Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli! Wasim Jaffer names 3 Indian players crucial for BGT 2024-25 win over Australia

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has shared his insights on the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 between India and Australia. Set to commence on November 22 at Perth Stadium, this series will be the first five-match Test series between the two nations since the 1991-92 season. India have enjoyed considerable success in their recent tours of Australia, clinching the series in both 2018-19 and 2020-21. As a result, the Indian team is aiming to secure a third consecutive Test series victory in Australia.

Wasim Jaffer names key players for India’s success in BGT 2024-25

Instead of focusing on prominent players like captain Rohit Sharma or renowned batter Virat Kohli, who both have impressive records against Australia, Jaffer emphasized the importance of the Indian fast bowlers’ fitness and availability. He believed that Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj would be crucial to India’s success in the series. Jaffer’s prediction centered on the idea that if these key fast bowlers remain fit and participate in most of the matches, India will have a significant chance to achieve a series win.

“If Bumrah, Shami and Siraj stay fit and are able to play most of the series, India have a great opportunity for a hat-trick down under,” Jaffer wrote on X.

    Potential X-factors

Jaffer also highlighted potential X-factors for the series. He suggests that if selected, Arshdeep Singh’s left-arm angle and Mayank Yadav’s additional pace could provide valuable contributions in Australian conditions. Jaffer remarked, “Arshdeep could bring the left-arm option. And Mayank Yadav, dark horse provided he’s fit and available,” This perspective underscores the strategic depth India could leverage to navigate the challenges of playing in Australia.

    Series schedule against Australia

The BGT 2024-25 will follow a comprehensive schedule with key fixtures including the first Test at Perth, followed by a day-night match in Adelaide from December 6. The third Test will take place in Brisbane starting December 14, while the fourth Test is set to begin on December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The series will conclude with the final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3, 2025.
