Racism shakes MLS: What a New York Red Bulls player said during a match

There is high drama in the MLS after a San Jose Earthquakes player said that he heard a racist remark being said by a New York Red Bulls player.

During the match on Saturday between the two sides, San Jose Earthquakes striker Jeremy Ebobisse heard a racist remark come from a Red Bulls player, but he declined to say which one.

The alleged incident occurred in the 54th minute of the game and it is now being investigated by the MLS.

Ebobisse also explained that in the wake of the incident, his team nearly walked off the field and it caused 21 minutes of added time.

In the press conference, Ebobisse explains the reason for the Earthquakes continuing the game. It was because the player in question had not directed the remark at a specific other player, it was just said generally.

“The racist remark was said – I do not believe it was to me, I can feel pretty comfortable saying but the word was used,” Ebobisse said after the game. “From there, anyone can make any sort of inference as to what it was aimed at, that is what the investigation can get to.

“It is important we dig out all the facts. I want to be as open as possible here. There is a lot of uncertainty here, I want to respect what will hopefully be a robust investigation. A difficult situation. I am grateful I was with my teammates.

“What is important for me to share is that I know what I heard and the reason why I felt, after a lengthy conversation we should continue with the game is because the player who said the word claimed it was not aimed at any of us.

‘Whether that is a good faith comment or not we shall see as the investigation goes on. But a difficult moment where players were put in charge, have to manage all sorts of emotions because the system is not robust enough.”

Gareth Bale's emotional farewell in the LAFC locker room

Gareth Bale put an end to his time as a footballer after a 16-year career, where he shone in his stints with Tottenham and Real Madrid.

From its Twitter account, his last club LAFC uploaded a video of Gareth thanking all the fans for the good treatment given to the Welshman during his short stint at the club. He leaves happy to have won the MLS title.

“Hello to all the LAFC fans and 3252, I just want to say thank you for my welcome being here in Los Angeles. It’s been an amazing experience, winning the MLS Cup together and creating lasting memories is something I will never forget. So thank you very much,” said Bale.

LAFC is currently starting pre-season where they will seek to defend their title at all costs.

  • Luis Suarez has his bags packed and he hints where he'll be heading after the World Cup

Luis Suarez has his bags packed and he hints where he'll be heading after the World Cup

Luis Suarez’s possible move to MLS has been discussed on several occasions. The former FC Barcelona player wanted to end his time in Europe and returned to his native country after leaving Atletico Madrid.

He is no longer in his prime

But one of the possibilities that were on the table was to make the leap of continent and land in the United States. At 35, the competitive rhythm he was used to in Europe is over for him and his physique is no longer up to it. But he would like to try the MLS before his retirement.

After scoring 8 goals in 16 games for Nacional de Montevideo, a Brazilian team was interested in his services. This was Gremio of Porto Alegre, who tried every way to convince the Uruguayan to play for their team, but the president confessed what Suarez’s real plans were.

“His plan is to play in MLS.”

“We made a proposal, which was already rejected. Suarez thanked him because it was a serious offer, but his plan is to play in MLS. Our proposal was above the ones he has from MLS, but he has a life project,” said Alberto Guerra, a representative of the institution.

Three options in the United States

With these words, it is clear that Luis Suarez will end up playing for a Major League Soccer team in 2023. Franchises such as Los Angeles Galaxy, Los Angeles FC, and Inter Miami were already mentioned a few months ago, and it seems clear that one of these three teams will be lucky enough to enjoy him. Suarez already has his future decided, but now his head is fully focused on the World Cup.
