Salah posts cryptic Alexander-Arnold video after bombshell Real Madrid news

If Mohamed Salah wanted to fan the flames of speculation regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold, he’s certainly done just that.

On Saturday evening, Salah uploaded a short video to his Instagram story that featured Ibrahima Konate, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexander-Arnold.

The trio are seen lounging on a couch in a clip that lasts only a matter of seconds.

Konate and Szoboszlai look to be highly engaged towards Alexander-Arnold, who appeared to be talking.

However, there is no audio attached to the video, leaving fans to speculate what it was the quartet conversed about.

Many have pondered whether Alexander-Arnold and Salah discussed their respective futures given the news this past week about the pair’s likely next moves.

talkSPORT revealed on Tuesday Alexander-Arnold was bound for Real Madrid in the summer on a free transfer.

The Liverpool star has agreed a five-year deal with Los Blancos and is set to pocket over £220,000-per-week.

Barring a monumental backflip, Alexander-Arnold’s exit will bring an end to his 20-year association with the club, having first joined Liverpool’s academy in 2004 aged six.

The blow of Alexander-Arnold’s impending exit was softened by the news on Wednesday Liverpool have grown increasingly confident of reaching an agreement to extend Salah’s stay at Anfield.

Interest had steadily built from Saudi Arabia and around Europe for the Egyptian superstar’s services.

Saudi club Al-Ittihad even tabled an eye-watering £150million offer for Salah in 2023, but it was swiftly rejected by the Reds.

All signs are pointing towards Salah signing a new contract with the Reds

Salah also did little to quash rumours about his exit when he claimed he was ‘more out than in’ when discussing his future last November.

However, talkSPORT understands Liverpool’s top brass are now feeling upbeat about the prospect of Salah prolonging his stay on Merseyside.

Salah has enjoyed a season of dreams under first-year Reds boss Arne Slot.

The Egyptian sits atop the Premier League goalscoring charts with a whopping 27 goals, six more than the next best which is Erling Haaland.

Salah also leads the way in the assists column having registered 17, seven more than Antonee Robinson, Bukayo Saka and Mikkel Damsgaard.

With clarity around Salah and Alexander-Arnold’s likely next moves, all eyes will be on skipper Virgil van Dijk, who is also out of contract at the end of the season.

Van Dijk's future at Anfield remains under a cloud of uncertainty

Van Dijk was approached by Saudi side Al-Hilal over a move earlier in March.

However, the towering Dutchman told reporters following Liverpool’s Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain he had ‘no idea’ where his future lay.

“I have no idea at the moment, genuinely I still have no idea,” Van Dijk said.

“It is not on hold. Nothing on hold. There are 10 games to go and that is my full focus. If there is news you guys will know it. I don’t even know myself.

“Everyone knows there are some conversations behind the scenes but that is about it. At the moment I don’t even know what will happen next year. If anyone says they do know, they are lying to your face.”

  • Kevin De Bruyne sparked training ground bust-up at Chelsea that stunned legends

Kevin De Bruyne sparked training ground bust-up at Chelsea that stunned legends

Letting Kevin De Bruyne go is seen as one of Chelsea’s biggest-ever transfer failings.

But according to two of their former regulars, no one could have predicted the player the Manchester City skipper turned out to be.

    3

De Bruyne is regarded as one of the Premier League’s best ever midfieldersCredit: Getty

The Belgian joined the Blues in 2012 from Genk for just £7million, but only ever managed nine first team appearances before going on loan to Werder Bremen, and then being sold to Wolfsburg.

Tearing the Bundesliga to pieces with the latter side, City paid £55m for the 33-year-old‘s services in 2015, and the rest is history.

Now one of the greatest creators the Premier League has ever seen, two of his former Chelsea teammates have discussed how he slipped through their fingers.

Appearing on The Obi One Podcast with former teammate John Obi Mikel, John Terry was asked if he could have seen the evolution from De Bruyne and fellow Chelsea flop turned English football great Mohamed Salah.

“Absolutely not,” he said. “It’s my one disappointment as captain, because I adapted over time as captain, I think I softened as the years went on.

“Those early years when those guys were there I was probably very strong, very disciplined on the group and how we did things.

“Actually, that was probably the first time they needed an arm around the shoulder and a sit down and a discussion and maybe helped them settle in.

“So for those players for the level they’ve got to, I’m disappointed in myself as captain and it’s a regret I’ll have.

“I’m delighted they’ve become what they’ve become, but I wouldn’t have said they would have got to the level they got to.”

Mikel was in complete agreement with his former teammate, and didn’t see anywhere near enough from ex-midfield partner De Bruyne.

“Definitely not,” Mikel said in agreement about De Bruyne and Salah.

“But it wasn’t just you JT, when you look back then and look at their levels, I think Kevin De Bruyne wasn’t the best trainer back then.

“He was somebody that comes to training, and probably because he wasn’t playing that much, always head down, always angry and sulking.

“He was like a kid who came to the playground and nobody wanted to play with him.

“I remember when Samuel Eto’o had a go at him and they had a massive fight on the training ground just because he [De Bruyne] wasn’t putting in the effort that Samuel Eto’o wanted so they had a massive row on the pitch.

“But back then we didn’t expect them to be where they are today, credit to them they’ve gone away and they’ve done what they had to do to become who they are, they’re superstars.

That close’ – Jurgen Klopp desperately regrets not signing two Premier League superstars

“When I watch Kevin De Bruyne today, I’m like, ‘Is this the same guy?!’”

Since linking up at City, De Bruyne has played an integral part in his side lifting six Premier League titles.

That is in addition to scooping the Champions League, as well two FA Cups, five League Cups, two Community Shields and the Club World Cup.

In 412 appearances for the Citizens, he has banged in 106 goals, while laying on a whopping 174 assists.

He is tied with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in racking up the most Premier League assists in a single season – supplying 20 goals for his teammates in the 2019/20 term.

Interest has been building from Saudi Arabia and around Europe in his services.

The 32-year-old is not in active talks over a move to the Saudi Pro League, despite being a key target, talkSPORT understands.

A whopping £150million offer from Al Ittihad in 2023 was swiftly rejected by the Reds for the Egypt international, with fans fearing interest could be renewed ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The ex-Chelsea forward has done little to shut down speculation – insisting he is ‘more out than in’ when discussing his future in November.

However, the Reds are now feeling upbeat about the prospect of Salah staying on Merseyside.

Salah is enjoying a stunning season so far – where he leads the Premier League‘s charts for goals and assists.

With 27 goals and 17 assists already, he is on course for his best ever campaign in the English top-flight.

He is just three assists shy of equalling Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne‘s record of 20 in a single season.

And he needs just five more strikes to tie his record tally of 32 he set during his first year at the club following his move from Roma in 2017.

The news comes a day after it emerged that Salah’s teammate, Trent Alexander-Arnold, is bound for Real Madrid upon the expiration of his contract this summer.

Liverpool are now hopeful that Salah – as well as skipper Virgil van Dijk – will commit to their futures in Merseyside beyond the summer.

And it appears that Saudi Pro League bosses are losing hope of securing Salah’s services as they believe he wants to continue playing in Europe.

That is despite being willing to hand the Egyptian star a three-year deal worth in excess of £160million-per-year.

That deal would make Salah one of the richest footballers in the Gulf nation alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, who pockets in the region of £177m-a-year.

Saudi chiefs have been able to speak to Salah regarding a free transfer since January, but the winger has prioritised contract talks with Liverpool.

Now it seems that his Liverpool legacy will continue to be built.

Since joining the Reds from Roma for £36.5million, Salah has proven himself as a true Liverpool legend.

In 392 games for the club he has scored 243 goals and provided 110 assists.

He has also won just about every trophy on offer during that time including the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups.

With another Premier League title likely to be heading his way this term, it seems that Salah is showing no signs of slowing down.

‘‘Will be a superstar’: Liverpool gun set to join Spanish giants on blockbuster $450k per week move

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid from Liverpool at season’s end is a done deal, according to multiple reports from the United Kingdom and Spain.

The defender has been tipped to trade Anfield for the Bernabeu on a free transfer at the end of his contract for some time, and it has been reported that the Spanish giants have secured the 26-year-old with a five-year offer worth more than £220,000 a week.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side view the England international as the long-term successor to 33-year-old Dani Carvajal, who is out with an ACL injury sustained in October, and he would join the likes of top English players David Beckham, Steve McManaman, who backed Alexander-Arnold to “be a superstar” in Madrid, Michael Owen and Jonathan Woodgate to represent Los Blancos.

Alexander-Arnold has been free to discuss terms with overseas clubs since January, and his impending move to Real would also reunite him with his friend and England teammate Jude Bellingham.

Real made an approach to Liverpool on New Year’s Eve to try sign Alexander-Arnold during the January transfer window, but the Premier League champions in waiting declined to cash the right-back in for reportedly around £20 million to boost their chances of a league crown.

That move was vindicated as Arne Slot’s side sits 12 points clear atop of the table with nine matches remaining, but will leave them without any profit on Alexander-Arnold as he can join Real for free like French superstar Kylian Mbappe did last year from PSG.

Alexander-Arnold is sidelined at present after injuring his ankle during the Reds’ Champions League exit at the hands of PSG and missing the League Cup final loss to Newcastle as a result.

He is tipped to return next month, in time for the crowning few weeks of the Premier League campaign and what is set to be a fitting farewell to his boyhood club.

Alexander-Arnold made his first team debut as an 18-year-old in 2016 after joining Liverpool’s academy as a six-year-old.

Many Reds fans on social media have been outraged however, calling for him to not be selected for the remainder of the season

Under esteemed manager Jurgen Kloop, Alexander-Arnold won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and Club World Cup.

He is also one of three key Liverpool players out of contract at season’s end, with the futures of golden boot leader Mohamed Salah and star defender Virgil van Dijk still unclear.

Liverpool have declined to comment on the reports.

Salah is known to be a key target for Saudi Pro League chiefs, where he would be the latest high-profile player to make the move to the Middle East.

But in a boost for Liverpool, it is understood that as it stands, he is not in negotiations with any Saudi club.

Club chiefs meanwhile are hopeful that the player – as well as skipper Virgil van Dijk – will commit to their futures in Merseyside beyond the summer.

And it appears that Saudi Pro League bosses are losing hope of securing Salah’s services as they believe he wants to continue in Europe.

That is despite being willing to hand the former Basel man a three-year deal worth in excess of £160m-per-year.

It would make Salah one of the richest footballers in the Gulf nation alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, who pockets around £177m-a-year.

  • ‘Bend the rules’ – Salah wants to stay at Liverpool and he will if they do this

‘Bend the rules’ – Salah wants to stay at Liverpool and he will if they do this

Mohamed Salah wants to stay at Liverpool even though he hasn’t yet agreed a new deal.

That’s according to Reds legend Michael Owen, who believes that the club should alter their contract policy to keep hold of the Egyptian.

    5

It remains to be seen if Salah will stay at Liverpool or leaveCredit: Getty

As it stands, Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the season once his current deal at Anfield expires on June 30.

He is yet to agree to new terms amid a potential final season at the club in which he has scored a stunning 32 goals in 43 matches.

However, ex-Liverpool striker Owen believes the 32-year-old wants to extend his stay, as long as Liverpool make one key change.

“Mo Salah’s an interesting one. I think Mo Salah wants to stay, in fact I’m pretty sure he wants to stay,” he told talkSPORT.

“I think Liverpool are going to have to bend the rules slightly, they might say, ‘Oh right, only two years for players of this age.’

“But he’s no normal player, he’s as fit as a flea, he’s dedicated, he lives in the gym, he’s so profeSsional. You can’t tell me that he’s not going to be at the same level in three, four years.

“I mean, he’s just unbelievable, so I would bend the rules, I would give him the contract, the length of contract.

“I’m also not that type of person, a fan that says, ‘Just give him what he wants, he’s brilliant, we’ll win the league with him.’ No, because you can’t put your club at risk, but I don’t think it’s got to that stage.

“To replace him, it’s going to cost an awful lot more, you’re not going to pay a transfer fee for him.

“So I would do whatever it takes to keep him, and I think he wants to stay, but sources tell me that they’re still quite a way apart.”

Salah joined Liverpool in 2017 and has since become one of the greatest players in the club’s history, scoring a total of 243 goals so far.

He has won three Premier League Golden Boots, with a fourth set to come this season as he currently sits on 27 goals.

A Premier League, Champions League and multiple domestic trophy winner, Salah could call time on a stunning eight-year stay at Anfield.

The winger is one of three big-name players whose futures remain unanswered ahead of their pending contract expirations.

One of those is Trent Alexander-Arnold, who looks all but set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer.

talkSPORT understands that Real Madrid are increasingly confident of their chances to sign Alexander-Arnold with the player verbally agreeing a move, although nothing has yet been confirmed.

And Owen, who left Liverpool to sign for Real Madrid in 2004, believes Alexander-Arnold should follow his heart when deciding whether to stay or leave Merseyside.

“Does he want to stay at Liverpool? He’s been there, seen it, done it, won everything, got the t-shirt,” Owen said.

“He could retire at the club and be an all-time legend, will be an all-time legend. I mean, he’s contributed so much to that club, he’s come through the ranks.

“Nobody can doubt his loyalty or anything else like that. And he could play out his days and he’s still in a successful team. Liverpool are still absolutely one of the best teams in Europe, of course, going to go on to win the league as well this season. I mean, it’s not a bad choice.

“My choice, when I was in that situation, we weren’t quite as good as the current Liverpool team in terms of we weren’t quite as dominant.

“But it is a similar thing, no question about it. The other alternative, of course, is he can be sitting there thinking, I’ve done everything, I’ve achieved absolutely everything at my boyhood.

“Who can deny me a chance to go and play for one of the biggest teams in the world, a new experience, a new country, new language, new weather, new food, new everything? And what a team.”

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk also has an uncertain future at the Premier League leaders and stands to leave in the summer along with Salah and Alexander-Arnold.

The Dutchman is of interest to Saudi Arabia, but hasn’t responded to them and is focused on contract discussions at the Reds.

The new-look Liverpool XI to rival strengthened Arsenal and Man City next term

Liverpool could be set for a summer of upheaval as three of their key players’ futures remain up in the air.

The Reds are in pole position to lift the Premier League title, but they may well have to start planning for life without Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold heading into next season.

    7

There have been growing fears that all three stars could leave Anfield in the summer, when their current contracts set to expire.

As yet, little progress appears to have been made on new deals for the trio, and club legend Robbie Fowler believes it is highly unlikely that each of the iconic figures will stay at Liverpool.

Appearing on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan the day after the Reds’ Carabao Cup final defeat to Newcastle, the former striker hinted at a busy summer ahead on Merseyside.

“From a Liverpool fan point of view, you’re mega disappointed if any of them don’t sign,” Fowler said.

“I don’t think the three of them will, if I’m being totally honest. But it’s going to be one of those things with Liverpool now.

“Certainly after the performance yesterday from some of the players when they’d see him, I think Arne Slot knows that he’s maybe going to have a big summer planned because he’ll probably want to bring his own players in.

“So regardless of those players staying or going, you know that there’s going to be a few incomings anyway. So if it’s those players, so be it.”

With some huge departures potentially on the cards in the coming months, here is how Liverpool could line up next campaign without Salah, Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk.

Goalkeeper Alisson is almost certain to remain first choice between the sticks, having established himself as one of the world’s best in his position.

This is despite the imminent arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili, with a deal already agreed for the Georgian keeper to join the Reds from Valencia in the summer.

Left-back is the first position where fans could see movement, with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez heavily linked with a move to Anfield.

talkSPORT previously confirmed the Hungarian is on Liverpool’s radar, with a transfer meaning that mainstay full-back Andy Robertson would have to make way for him.

With captain Van Dijk’s future hanging in the balance, having admitted he has ‘no idea‘ if he will be staying or leaving, discussions will surely be taking place over who will partner Ibrahima Konate at centre-back next term.

One player who could fill the Dutchman’s shoes is Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.

According to the Mirror, the Reds are leading the race to sign the England international, who would prefer a move to the north west ahead of other potential suitors Newcastle and Chelsea.

Meanwhile, should Alexander-Arnold decide on pastures new, with Real Madrid the likely destination, head coach Slot will have to plan for life without the playmaking right-back.

But he may already have a ready-made successor here, with Conor Bradley previously proving himself a more than capable replacement.

The Northern Irishman has established himself as an important squad player since his emergence under Jurgen Klopp, including starting in last year’s Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea.

The midfield will likely look familiar, with Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai all set to retain their spots.

But the league leaders may have to bolster their engine room back-up options, with Harvey Elliott and Wataru Endo both being highlighted as players who could move on in the summer.

Moving into the front line, the potential departure of talisman Salah will have a huge impact on how the league leaders shape up.

While the ‘Egyptian King’ has starred from the right hand side, the Reds have no shortage of attacking firepower out wide, namely in the shape of regular starters Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz.

This could prompt the Reds to deploy the pair on either wing, and instead look to replace the loss of Salah’s huge goalscoring threat by signing a new striker.

Darwin Nunez has been inconsistent leading the line, while injuries have prevented Diogo Jota from a consistent run in the role.

And Fowler has urged his old club to fill this gap by making a sensational move for Newcastle goal machine Alexander Isak.

The Swede has ranked among the Premier League’s top scorers since his move to England in 2022, and currently sits third in the goalscoring charts this term, behind Erling Haaland and Salah.

Newcastle’s 56-year trophy drought ends with stunning Carabao Cup final upset over Liverpool

Newcastle ended their 56-year trophy drought in stunning style as Dan Burn and Alexander Isak sealed a 2-1 win against Liverpool in the League Cup final on Sunday (Monday AEDT).

Get all the latest football news, highlights and analysis delivered straight to your inbox with Fox Sports Sportmail. Sign up now!!!

Eddie Howe’s side made history at Wembley with a superb display that left the runaway Premier League leaders shell-shocked.

Burn put Newcastle ahead late in the first half and Isak’s 27th goal in all competitions doubled their lead after the interval.

Federico Chiesa got one back in the closing seconds, but Newcastle held on for their first major silverware since the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.

That success in the predecessor to the Europa League is a relic of a bygone era, but this long-awaited triumph will be forever etched in the memories of the Newcastle fans who turned one half of Wembley into a roiling sea of black and white with their ecstatic celebrations.

It was also Newcastle’s first major domestic prize dating back 70 years to the 1955 FA Cup.

Since the Magpies lifted the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, 30 different English teams had won silverware, while Liverpool had clinched 38 major trophies in that time.

But after losing the 2023 League Cup final against Manchester United, Howe’s team returned to Wembley and set the record straight at last.

Newcastle had endured five relegations to the second tier since their last trophy, with club legends like Alan Shearer, Paul Gascoigne and Malcolm MacDonald failing to win silverware in their time on Tyneside.

Aside from a brief period when Kevin Keegan’s self-styled “entertainers” challenged for the title in the 1990s, Newcastle have endured decades of underachievement and self-inflicted wounds that rendered them a laughing stock for long periods.

All that changed in 2021 when a Saudi-backed consortium completed a takeover from unpopular owner Mike Ashley and quickly hired Howe as their manager.

Thanks to Howe’s astute leadership and the Saudi financial backing, Newcastle have been transformed from relegation candidates to silverware winners.

Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes said the win was the “best day of my life”.

“It’s all for these fans,” Guimaraes told Sky Sports. “They deserve everything. When I first came here I said I wanted to put my name in history.

“We can now say we are the champions again. This is one of the best days of my life.

“I don’t have any words. It’s the best day of my life. For them (the fans) it’s like the World Cup. People have grown up and not seen us as champions. My first year as captain of this club and it’s one of the best days. This is unbelievable.

“This is my second home. We are making history. Some day when I leave this club I want the fans to sing my name the way they do to Shearer. He texted me before the game. I’m so emotional today.”

The defeat was another painful blow for Liverpool just days after their Champions League last 16 exit on penalties against Paris Saint-Germain.

But despite failing to win their first trophy under boss Arne Slot, Liverpool still sit 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League, within touching distance of a record-equalling 20th English title.

Liverpool are 23 points ahead of sixth-placed Newcastle in the league and hadn’t lost to them for 17 games dating back to 2015.

But Howe’s men were in no mood to be cowed by past failures Newcastle fans unveiled a banner before kick-off urging their team to “write your name in the history books”.

They rose to the challenge in spectacular fashion, snapping into tackles and counter-attacking with purpose, while Liverpool were sluggish and sloppy in possession.

Bruno Guimaraes had a golden opportunity to reward Newcastle’s enterprising start when Burn headed Kieran Trippier’s corner towards the Brazil midfielder, but he nodded at Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher from close-range.

Newcastle’s desire and drive was clear to see when Joelinton tracked back from midfield to stop Jarell Quansah in his tracks and celebrated with a fist-pumping roar.

Despite nearly being caught out by Burn’s aerial prowess once before, Liverpool failed to heed the warning as the towering centre-back put Newcastle ahead in the 45th minute.

Bizarrely left unmarked, with only the diminutive Alex Mac Allister anywhere near him, Burn was allowed to rise unchallenged to meet Tripper’s corner as he thumped a powerful header into far corner from 12 yards.

Burn’s goal — Newcastle’s first in a cup final since 1976 — capped an incredible week for the journeyman centre-back, who received his first England call-up on Friday.

With Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah completely anonymous, the lethargic Reds had no answer as Isak put Newcastle into dreamland after 52 minutes.

Jacob Murphy met Tino Livramento’s cross with a header that found Isak, who drilled a superb first-time finish past Kelleher from 10 yards.

Chiesa’s stoppage-time strike set up an anxious finale, but good things comes to those who wait.

And all across Wembley, Newcastle players and fans celebrated with abandon as a party over half a century in the making got into full swing.

Mohamed Salah breaks all-time Premier League record with nine games to spare

Mohamed Salah broke an all-time Premier League record after scoring a double against Southampton.

The Liverpool star continued his wonderful form with two goals from the penalty spot for the Reds in their 3-1 victory over the Saints on Saturday.

Those goals mean that Salah has already broken the Fantasy Premier League record for points scored in a season – smashing his own previous best with nine games still to go this term.

He has already racked up 306 points this season, three more than his previous best.

The brace also means that Salah has now scored or assisted a goal in 13 of Liverpool’s 14 Premier League games at Anfield this term.

In that run, the forward has scored or assisted in their last 12 home matches in a row.

That run stretches back to Liverpool’s only league defeat of the season against Nottingham Forest back in September.

Those 12-straight games mean that Salah is now closing in on more history.

Thierry Henry achieved a similar record for goal involvements in home games in the 2002/03 campaign.

Meanwhile Alan Shearer achieved it twice – enjoying a 13-game run in 1995/96 and a 15-game run in 1996/97.

It means that Salah must now score or assist in his next three home Premier League games to match the Newcastle legend’s record.

The 32-year-old was on hand to save Liverpool on a nervy afternoon at Anfield.

Facing Southampton, Will Smallbone shocked fans by giving Saints the lead going into the break.

Darwin Nunez was able to draw the game level just after the break, before Salah burst into action.

A penalty after 54 minutes put the Reds ahead, before Salah struck again two minutes from time to earn a 3-1 win.

As well as moving Liverpool 16 points clear at the top of the table for the time being, it was a game that saw Salah’s own numbers bolstered.

Salah’s brace takes his tally to 32 goals for the season, while he’s also provided 20 assists in 41 games so far this term.

With an overall tally of 184 goals in the Premier League, Salah is now joint-fifth on the all-time scorers list alongside Sergio Aguero.

Now with 44 goals and assists this term, Salah has also equaled the record for end-product set by Henry in 2002/03 and Erling Haaland in 2022/23.

Speaking about equalling Aguero’s record, he said: “I knew about the record, but I didn’t think about it while I was playing.

“It’s a good record to be equalling. Sergio was a great player, he was a legend for the league.

“So I am happy about that and happy about the win.”

On the comeback against Southampton, he added: “It was a tough game, they had a good game plan. It worked well first half for them.

“But I’m glad that we managed to come back in the second half and win the game.”

Troy Deeney defends himself against claims of Mo Salah ‘agenda’ after Adebayo Akinfenwa called him out

Salah continued: “I don’t think we played well today. Maybe second half we played a little bit better, but first half we didn’t play well at all.

“But if you want to win the Champions League or the Premier League, you have to win those kinds of games.”

Next up for Liverpool is the decisive Champions League last-16 clash with Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield on Tuesday.

They then head to Wembley on Sunday where they face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final in the hope of winning their first silverware of the campaign.

Liverpool can force Arsenal into embarrassing gesture as Reds close in on title

Liverpool are now just a handful of wins away from claiming the Premier League title this season.

The Reds came from behind to avoid a shock against Southampton on Saturday, claiming a 3-1 victory at Anfield.

After going 1-0 in the first half, a record-breaking Mohamed Salah double and a finish from Darwin Nunez turned things around.

It moved them 16 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League after 29 games – albeit with the Gunners playing two less.

However, they now know how many more points they need to secure the top-flight title after an incredible campaign.

When can Liverpool win the title?

Liverpool need 18 more points to secure the Premier League crown.

They only need six more wins to get the job done, even if Arsenal manage to win all of their remaining games.

The Gunners can reach a maximum of 87 points, so it leaves Slot’s men needing to reach 88 to win the title in his first year in charge.

All eyes will be set on winning each and every game to get their hands on some silverware, and that starts next month.

They will host Everton at Anfield on April 2 after the upcoming international break for a Merseyside derby.

Then clashes against Fulham and West Ham follow.

After that, Liverpool travel to struggling Leicester, and then they host Ange Postecoglou‘s Tottenham.

    Liverpool’s remaining games

    • Liverpool vs Everton – April 2
    • Fulham vs Liverpool – April 6
    • Liverpool vs West Ham – April 13
    • Leicester vs Liverpool – April 20
    • Liverpool vs Tottenham – April 27
    • Chelsea vs Liverpool – May 3
    • Liverpool vs Arsenal – May 10
    • Brighton vs Liverpool – May 18
    • Liverpool vs Crystal Palace – May 25

If the Reds win all of those games, and presuming Arsenal win theirs too, they’d need one more win to claim the Premier League title.

And that could be achieved against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge at the start of May, with the game currently scheduled for May 3.

Should they win the title in that game, they are likely to get a guard of honour from all remaining opponents this season.

This would mean that Arsenal, who look set to miss out on Premier Leage glory again, could perform the gesture for their rivals.

It’s not compulsory for teams to do so, but usually they do to show respect for the title-winners’ achievements.

It’s something that would hurt Mikel Arteta and his squad as they would have to applaud the team who beat them to the title.

If Liverpool slip up before that meeting with Arsenal on May 10, there’s potential for them to clinch it against the Gunners.

But things remain up in the air regarding the exact time that the Reds can get their hands on the silverware.

There are still a lot of games to go this season, of course.

One thing’s for sure, though: Slot’s side will lift the Premier League trophy on the final day against Crystal Palace if they clinch it.

And what an end that would be to the first season without Jurgen Klopp for Liverpool.
