Gina Lollobrigida dies at age 95

Italian actor Gina Lollobrigida, who achieved international film stardom during the 1950s and was dubbed “the most beautiful woman in the world” after the title of one her movies, died in Rome on Monday, her agent said. She was 95.

The agent, Paola Comin, didn’t provide details. But Lollobrigida had surgery in September to repair a thigh bone broken in a fall. She returned home and said she had quickly resumed walking.

A drawn portrait of the diva graced a 1954 cover of Time magazine, which in an article about Italian movie-making likened her to a “goddess.” More than a half-century later, Lollobrigida still turned heads with a head full of auburn curly hair and her statuesque figure.

“Lollo,” as she was lovingly nicknamed by Italians, began making movies in Italy just after the end of World War II, as the country began to promote on the big screen a stereotypical concept of Mediterranean beauty as buxom and brunette.

Besides “The World’s Most Beautiful Woman” in 1955, career highlights included Golden Globe-winner “Come September,” with Rock Hudson; “Trapeze;” “Beat the Devil,” a 1953 John Huston film starring Humphrey Bogart and Jennifer Jones; and “Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell,” which won Lollobrigida Italy’s top movie award, a David di Donatello, as best actress in 1969.

In Italy, she worked with some of the country’s top directors following the war, including Mario Monicelli, Luigi Comencini, Pietro Germi and Vittorio De Sica.

Two of her more popular films at home were Comencini’s “Pane Amore Fantasia” (Bread Love Fantasy) in 1953, and the sequel a year later, “Pane Amore Gelosia” (Bread Love Jealousy). In each of them, her male foil was Vittorio Gassman, one of Italy’s most leading men on the screen.

Lollobrigida began her career in beauty contests, posing for the covers of magazines and brief appearances in minor films. But her sexy image quickly propelled her to roles in major Italian and international movies.

While Lollobrigida played some dramatic roles, her characters were most popular in lighthearted comedies, like the “Bread Love” movies.

Lollobrigida also was an accomplished sculptor, painter and photographer, and eventually essentially dropped film for the fine arts. With her camera, she roamed the world from what was then the Soviet Union to Australia.

In 1974, Fidel Castro hosted her as a guest in Cuba for 12 days as she worked on a photo reportage.

She was born on July 4, 1927 in Subiaco, a picturesque hill town near Rome, where her father was a furniture maker.

The emergency calls made at the scene of Jeremy Renner's snow accident

On the first day of 2023, the film world woke up to tragic news in the form of an unfortunate accident. Jeremy Renner, the actor who has given life to characters such as ‘Hawkeye’ in Marvel, was a victim of the heavy snows that hit the United States and a snow removal machine buried him, leaving him in a “critical, but stable” condition.

CNN media had access to the emergency call log through a public records request which shed light on the alert given to local police about Jeremy Renner‘s accident.

Completely crushed,” is how he was described at the scene to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, where Jeremy Renner lives. Specifically, he was crushed by a snowplow.

    Jeremy Renner was “completely crushed”

Two calls were made, specifically, at 08:55 local time on January 1, 2023.

“The subject was run over by a snowplow,” the caller relates.

This same individual confirmed that the subject was “down and had been crushed”. The subject was later identified as Jeremy Renner.

He is screaming loudly with mild bleeding,” they note in the call log.

“He is bleeding heavily from head and other injuries. The caller is unsure where all the blood is coming from,” the Sheriff’s Office description continues.

The actor had “extreme difficulty breathing”

Renner was “completely crushed under a large snowmobile” and was having “extreme difficulty breathing” at the time. “The right side of his chest is collapsed, upper torso is crushed,” the Sheriff’s log narrates. The helicopter arrived at the scene 29 minutes after the first call.

On the way to the hospital, workers reported that “he had all sorts of injuries, but is currently breathing and conscious,” according to the log.

  • Romeo and Juliet: Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting sue over 1968 film's teen nude scene

Romeo and Juliet: Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting sue over 1968 film's teen nude scene

The two stars of 1968’s “Romeo and Juliet” sued Paramount Pictures for more than $500 million on Tuesday over a nude scene in the film shot when they were teens.

Olivia Hussey, then 15 and now 71, and Leonard Whiting, then 16 now 72, filed the suit in Los Angeles County Superior Court alleging sexual abuse, sexual harassment and fraud.

Director Franco Zeffirelli, who died in 2019, initially told the two that they would wear flesh-colored undergarments in the bedroom scene that comes late in the movie and was shot on the final days of filming, the suit alleges.

But on the morning of the shoot, Zeffirelli told Whiting, who played Romeo, and Hussey, who played Juliet, that they would wear only body makeup, while still assuring them the camera would be positioned in a way that would not show nudity, according to the suit.

Yet they were filmed in the nude without their knowledge, in violation of California and federal laws against indecency and the exploitation of children, the suit says.

Zeffirelli told them they must act in the nude “or the Picture would fail” and their careers would be hurt, the suit said. The actors “believed they had no choice but to act in the nude in body makeup as demanded.”

Whiting’s bare buttocks and Hussey’s bare breasts are briefly shown during the scene.

Hussey and Whiting have suffered emotional damage and mental anguish for decades

The film, and its theme song, were major hits at the time, and has been shown to generations of high school students studying the Shakespeare play since.

The court filing says the Hussey and Whiting have suffered emotional damage and mental anguish for decades, and that each had careers that did not reflect the success of the movie.

It says given that suffering and the revenue brought in by the film since its release, the actors are entitled to damages of more than $500 million.

An email seeking comment from representatives of Paramount was not immediately returned.

The lawsuit was filed under a California law temporarily suspending the statute of limitations for child sex abuse, which has led to a host of new lawsuits and the revival of many others that were previously dismissed.

Hussey defended the scene in a 2018 interview with Variety, which first reported the lawsuit, for the film’s 50th anniversary.

“Nobody my age had done that before,” she said, adding that Zeffirelli shot it tastefully. “It was needed for the film.”

The Associated Press does not typically name people who say they have been sexually abused unless they come forward publicly, as Hussey and Whiting have.

  • Sam Mendes: Jose Mourinho would make a great Bond villain, you can't get better than that

Sam Mendes: Jose Mourinho would make a great Bond villain, you can't get better than that

Sam Mendes is one of the most successful movie directors of recent times and some of his most famous films were the James Bond movies ‘Skyfall’ and ‘Spectre’.

The director has now discussed the future of the franchise and had a surprise pick for the next Bond villain.

“For a great Bond villain? Jose Mourinho,” he said during a Q&A with The Guardian.

“You can’t get better than that can you.”

Sam Mendes on the future of James Bond

He was also asked who he’d like to play James Bond in the future, but thinks the franchise has some challenges in that sense.

“I have no idea, they’ve made it so difficult for themselves for two reasons,” he added.

“One is they turned the franchise into something extraordinary with Daniel Craig.

“If you think about the actors that might have been up for the role after Pierce Brosnan, a lot of people would have said ‘No way’.

“They would not have even been considered for the role, not wanted to be considered for the role.

“Now, there’s barely an actor in the world who would turn it down. And that’s because of Daniel and because what’s happened to the franchise since.

“So that’s a great thing. The bad thing is he’s dead. You tell me how they get out of that one.”

  • Bruce Willis' entourage reveals an accident during filming may have caused his aphasia

Bruce Willis' entourage reveals an accident during filming may have caused his aphasia

The statement about Bruce Willis‘ state of health shocked the world of cinema. One of the most famous faces in the history of Hollywood suffered from a disease that prevented him from communicating properly and left all his fans in shock.

Now, nine months later, there is a rumor about the possible origin of the actor’s illness.

The actor, a specialist in action movies who more recently starred in low-budget feature films, had an accident while shooting a film by Antoine Fuqua, a war movie production back in 2003, and this could have been the cause of his aphasia.

    The statement on his illness

“Our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is affecting his cognitive abilities. As a result of this and with much consideration, Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him,” the statement said in March.

However, the cause of his illness was unknown to the general public, not so to his closest circle, which has suggested in recent days that signs of the disease had been visible for years.

German outlet Filmstarts has raised a suspicion: an accident during the filming of ‘Tears of the Sun’ could have been the cause.

A projectile hit the actor’s head.

Aphasia is a brain injury that affects a person’s communication. This ailment prevents the patient from speaking, but also from understanding other people. The rumor came from Bruce Willis‘ circle, after an anonymous friend told The Sun in March 2022 that the changes in Bruce Willis began five years earlier.

“At first it was nothing big, just little things like he needed help talking using earplugs. Everyone who knew him knew something was wrong, but we didn’t know the exact diagnosis. We knew there was something cognitively wrong, it wasn’t a secret, but that specific diagnosis and the fact that he would no longer be performing was surprising,” the source said.

The accident in question occurred when Bruce Willis was hit in the head by a “projectile” while filming ‘Tears of the Sun’.

Because of this, the actor sued Revolution Studios for “extreme mental, physical and emotional pain” and also the special effects manager, Joe Pancake.

  • Inside the incredible 22.5m dollar Los Angeles mansion that Sylvester Stallone is selling

Inside the incredible 22.5m dollar Los Angeles mansion that Sylvester Stallone is selling

Famous actor Sylvester Stallone has decided to put another of his Los Angeles mansions up for sale.

After selling an impressive mansion in the same city to Adele for 50 million dollars, he now wants to do the same with his second property on the west coast of the United States.

Why is Sylvester Stallone selling another LA mansion?

This mansion is located in the San Fernando Valleys and was purchased by the ‘Rocky’ actor last year.

Apparently, though, he immediately regretted buying it and is now looking to shift it, but at a profit.

The asking price is 22.5 million dollars and, in the event of a sale, he would be making a profit of 4m dollars.

One of the possible reasons for the sudden sale of this house is that he has gotten back together ex-wife Jennifer Flavin and he now hardly lives in this house in Los Angeles, nor does he spend much time in the city.

The details of the Sylvester Stallone mansion that is up for sale

This property has a main building, a guesthouse, a cottage, a stable and its own orchard, all part of the complex. There is also a large garden, swimming pool and barbecue area.

Inside, it has everything you’d expect plus a cinema and a gym.

In the master bedroom there is a double dressing room, a sitting room, large wardrobes and a private balcony.

The house also has excellent privacy, as there is a gate and path that must be passed through in order to reach it, one that creates a buffer from the paparazzi.

  • Will Smith turned down his infamous 'dad bod' and got in shape for his new movie

Will Smith turned down his infamous 'dad bod' and got in shape for his new movie

Will Smith is trying, by all means, to have a good close to the year after he started it off terribly with his Academy Awards antics. And at least he’s trying to get in good physical shape. At least that’s what he did for the movie Emancipation, in which he stars and which is an Apple production.

Will Smith: I want to apologize to the Academy”

On the most recent episode of Red Table Talk, Smith talked about how he lost 30 pounds to get ready for the role, especially after a photo of him with ‘dad bod’ went viral.

“You guys may remember I posted the out of shape…the ‘dad bod’ picture,” he recounted. “The ‘dad bod’ picture was my beginning of preparation to lose weight for Peter. I was probably 225-ish when I started and at the lowest, on the movie, I got to 195.”

He wants to make a good impression

The famous photo he refers to he posted in May 2021, which showed him with a non-athletic body, more of the famous ‘dad bod’ type. In the photo he posted: “I’m gonna be real wit yall – I’m in the worst shape of my life.”

The recent Oscar winner for Best Actor po “King Richard” hosted this week’s “Red Table Talk” show, where he was accompanied by his three children: Trey, Willow and Jaden Smith, while Jada Pinkett Smith and her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris were both absent.

His new character could bring him some accolades

In ‘Emancipation,’ Smith plays Peter Smith, a slave who escapes to a Louisiana plantation in 1860, and for that Smith wanted to be in the right physical shape.

“For me, the physicality is a big part of what makes people go, ‘Woah!’” he expressed.

“To be able to transition and manipulate your body as an actor is a big part of the suspension of disbelief for people.”

Nearly a week after Smith’s “dad bod” picture went viral, he posted a video of himself doing intense workouts, with the caption: “The Pursuit of Happyness.”

For Smith, losing weight was a complicated task. “Actually, being out in the swamps…it’s hot, it’s nasty,” Smith said. “You’re actually in the swamp, so your hands are dirty…you don’t really want to grab food and eat.”

Emancipation is his first film after the Oscars scandal, and was released on December 9.

Robert Downey Jr. opens up about drug addiction: It took me 20 years to become a person again

Robert Downey Jr. is one of the biggest names when it comes to the world of acting, thanks in large part to his role as Iron Man in the Marvel universe.

However, despite being one of the most talented actors, his career hasn’t been immune to controversy, whether it be jail or drugs.

‘Sr’, a documentary about Downey‘s father that was released on Netflix, talks about what life was like in the family, as his parents were also into drugs.

Robert was aware of what his father was doing from a very young age and explained: “I always knew what was going on in that basement”.

He started using when he was eight years old, together with his father: “We altered our consciousness with substances”.

How did they manage to quit drugs?

“I was just playing a game of wanting to appease myself or stay high, before I accepted the fact that things had gotten out of control,” said Robert.

Honestly, and more than anything, I look back on it and think ‘that’s awesome that that’s where a finished movie could come from’.”

His mother’s death from ALS in 1994 was a key moment for both he and his father in their recovery: “Even if it takes another 20 years to get back to being a person, you and Laura became a point of stability,” he said.

“When you lost her and you stayed clean and I was still out there, you told me I had to stay on this planet and not give up,” Robert‘s father, who passed away in 2021, can be seen telling his son, “You weren’t exactly a man without karma. We’re not going to play with the truth here. But that was a super important thing

“With everything you’ve been through, you deserve it,” is how the documentary ends, with Robert Downey Jr. now one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
